TORQUE CONVERTER INSPECTION

  1. Inspect the outer surface of the torque converter for damage or cracks, and replace it if necessary.
  2. Inspect for rust on the pilot hub of the torque converter or on the boss. If there is any, remove the rust completely.
  3. Measure the bushing of the torque converter boss. If not as specified, replace the torque converter.

2-4 BRAKE BAND SERVO RETURN SPRING SPECIFICATIONS

Scheme 51: ASSEMBLY PROCEDURE
  1. Apply ATF to a new D-ring and install it onto the band servo piston. D-ring Inner Diameter: Small D-ring: 29.4 mm {1.16 in} Large D-ring: 65.9 mm {2.59 in}
  2. Assemble the servo piston and servo retainer.
  3. Apply ATF to new O-rings and install them onto the servo retainer. O-Ring Inner Diameter 72.9 mm {2.87 in}
  4. Install the servo return spring and servo retainer component into the transaxle case.
  5. Press the servo retainer component using the SSTs. (Scheme 51): Pressing Servo Retainer Component
  6. Install the snap ring.
  7. Install the piston stem, washer, and nut to the band servo piston.

  1. Apply ATF to the seal rings.
  2. Install the piston and N-D accumulator spring.
  3. Apply ATF to the seal rings.
  4. Install the N-R accumulator springs and piston. (Scheme 53): Installing N-R Accumulator Springs & Piston
  5. Install the N-R accumulator gasket and plate.
  6. Tighten the plate bolt. Tightening Torque 6.5-7.8 N.m {66-80 kgf.cm, 58-69 in.lbf}
  7. Apply ATF to the seal rings.
  8. Install the piston and 1-2 accumulator springs. (Scheme 54): Installing Piston & 1-2 Accumulator Springs
  9. Install the 1-2 accumulator gasket and plate.
  10. Tighten the plate bolt. Tightening Torque 6.5-7.8 N.m {66-80 kgf.cm, 58-69 in.lbf}
  11. Install the bypass valve spring, bypass valve, stop plug, and stop pin.
  12. Install the cut back spring, cut back valve B, cut back valve A, stop plug, and stop pin.
  13. Install the 3-2 timing spring, 3-2 timing valve, stop plug, and stop pin.
  14. Install the pressure modifier accumulator valve, pressure modifier accumulator spring, and spring retainer.

  1. Install The Oil Strainer And Rubber Balls Into The Main Control Valve Body. (Scheme 65): Installing Oil Strainer & Rubber Balls Into Main Control Valve Body
  2. Install the oil strainer and rubber ball into the rear control valve body. (Scheme 66): Installing Oil Strainer & Rubber Ball Into Rear Control Valve Body
  3. Set the new main/rear front gasket, rear separator plate, and new main/rear rear gasket on the rear control valve body. Refer to the figure to distinguish the two gaskets. (Scheme 67): Identifying Front & Rear Gasket
  4. Set the rear control valve body onto the main control valve body.
  5. Install and hand-tighten the bolts shown in the figure. Each type of bolt has a different letter on its head. Match the bolt letter with the letter stamped next to its installation hole on the valve body. (Scheme 68): Installing Rear Control Valve Body Bolts
  6. Install the oil strainers and rubber balls into the main control valve body. (Scheme 69): Installing Oil Strainers &D Rubber Balls Into Main Control Valve Body
  7. Install the oil strainer and rubber balls into the premain control valve body. (Scheme 70): Installing Oil Strainer & Rubber Balls Into Premain Control Valve Body
  8. Install the jet orifice and nuts to the main separator plate. Tightening Torque 1.7-2.2 N.m {17-23 kgf.cm, 15-19 in.lbf} (Scheme 71): Installing Jet Orifice & Nuts To Main Separator Plate
  9. Set a new premain/main rear gasket, main separator plate, and new premain/main front gasket on the premain control valve body. Refer to the figure to distinguish the two gaskets. (Scheme 72): Identifying Front & Rear Gaskets
  10. Set the premain control valve body onto the main control valve body.
  11. Install and hand-tighten the bolts indicated by the arrows. Each type of bolt has a different letter on its head. Match the bolt letter with the letter stamped next to its installation hole on the valve body. (Scheme 73): Installing Premain Control Valve Body
  12. Install the rubber ball into the premain control valve body. (Scheme 74): Installing Rubber Ball Into Premain Control Valve Body
  13. Install the rubber ball into the front control valve body. (Scheme 75): Installing Rubber Ball Into Front Control Valve Body
  14. Set a new front/premain rear gasket, premain separator plate, and new front/premain front gasket on the front control valve body. Refer to the figure to distinguish the two gaskets. (Scheme 76): Identifying Front & Rear Gaskets
  15. Set the front control valve body onto the premain control valve body.
  16. Install and hand-tighten the bolts indicated by the arrows. Each type of bolt has a different letter on its head. Match the bolt letter with the letter stamped next to its installation hole on the valve body. (Scheme 77): Installing Front Control Valve Body
  17. Install four control valve body bolts as shown for alignment. (Scheme 78): Installing Four Control Valve Body Bolts
  18. Tighten the mounting bolts. Tighten the front control valve body. Tightening Torque: 6.5-7.8 N.m {66-80 kgf.cm, 58-69 in.lbf} Tighten the rear control valve body. Tightening Torque 6.5-7.8 N.m {66-80 kgf.cm, 58-69 in.lbf}
  19. Apply ATF to new O-rings and install them onto the solenoid valve.
  20. Install the solenoid valve. Tightening Torque 6.5-7.8 N.m {66-80 kgf.cm, 58-69 in.lbf}
  21. Apply ATF to new O-ring and install them onto the oil pipe component.
  22. Install the oil pipe component. Tightening Torque 6.5-7.8 N.m {66-80 kgf.cm, 58-69 in.lbf}
  23. Install the oil baffle. Tightening Torque 6.5-7.8 N.m {66-80 kgf.cm, 58-69 in.lbf}
  24. Install the TFT sensor. Tightening Torque 6.5-7.8 N.m {66-80 kgf.cm, 58-69 in.lbf}
