CLUTCH OPERATION INSPECTION

WARNINGUsing compressed air can cause dirt and other particles to fly out, causing injury to the eyes. Wear protective eye wear whenever using compressed air.
CAUTIONApplying compressed air to the assembled clutch pack for longer than 3 seconds at a time will damage the seal. Do not apply compressed air for more than the aforementioned time when testing the system.

Scheme 81

Scheme 81
  1. Inspect the clutch operation by applying compressed air as shown. If not as specified, replace parts as necessary. (Refer to «LOW AND REVERSE BRAKE DISASSEMBLY»(ref-143068-S18205513062005091300000).) (Refer to «LOW AND REVERSE BRAKE ASSEMBLY»(ref-143068-S11075192832005091300000).) Air Pressure: 390 kPa {4.0 kgf/cm 2, 57 psi} max. (Scheme 81): Inspecting Low & Reverse Clutch Operation

Scheme 82

Scheme 82: CLUTCH CLEARANCE INSPECTION
  1. Measure the clearance between the retaining plate and the snap ring. If not as specified, replace parts as necessary. (Refer to «LOW AND REVERSE BRAKE DISASSEMBLY»(ref-143068-S18205513062005091300000).) (Refer to «LOW AND REVERSE BRAKE ASSEMBLY»(ref-143068-S11075192832005091300000).) Clearance: 1.5-1.8 mm {0.060-0.070 in} (Scheme 82): Measuring Clearance Between Retaining Plate & Snap Ring

Scheme 83

Scheme 83: LOW AND REVERSE BRAKE DISASSEMBLY
  1. Disassemble in the order indicated in the figure. (Scheme 83): Disassembling Low & Reverse Brake

Scheme 84

Scheme 84: SNAP RING DISASSEMBLY NOTE
  1. Install the SSTs in the transaxle case as shown. CAUTION: Depress the spring retainer only enough to remove the snap ring. Overpressing will damage the assembly edges. (Scheme 84): Depress Spring Retainer Using SST
  2. Compress the spring and retainer.
  3. Remove the snap ring.
  4. Remove the SSTs and remove the spring and retainer.
