DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE TESTS
| CAUTION | Ensure ignition is off before disconnecting harness connector from any component or control module. If PCM replacement is instructed in following testing, always ensure PCM connectors and ground circuits are okay. If either are suspect, repair and repeat testing to confirm PCM malfunction. |
Note. For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Always perform applicable drive cycle test after repair is performed to verify if DTC is reset.
Note. For following tests, manufacturer recommends use of New Generation Star (NGS) tester. NGS tester is referred to as scan tool. For more information, see appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article.

DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE IDENTIFICATON
Diagnosis & Repair Procedure
- Ensure FREEZE FRAME DATA has been recorded. Inspect all applicable harness connectors. Repair as needed and go to next step.
- Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Record PID data for MAF V. Compare reading with specification. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If data is not within specification, go to next step. If data is within specification, go to step 8.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect MAF sensor connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and terminal "C" (Red/Black wire) on harness connector. (Scheme 43) If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, check for open or short of Red/Black wire between MAF sensor and main relay. (Scheme 44) Repair as needed and go to next step.
- Check continuity of Black/Blue wire between terminal "A" on MAF harness connector and terminal No. 4D on PCM harness connector. (Scheme 43)and (Scheme 44). PCM is mounted in front of center console, under radio. If continuity does not exist, repair as needed. Go to next step. If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Check continuity of Brown/Red wire between terminal "B" on MAF harness connector and terminal No. 3E on PCM harness connector. (Scheme 43)and (Scheme 44). If continuity does not exist, repair as needed. Go to next step. If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Inspect MAF sensor. See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as needed. If MAF sensor is okay, go to next step.
- Inspect Throttle Position (TP) sensor output voltage. See DTC P0120. Repair or replace as needed. If TP sensor output voltage is okay, go to next step.
- Erase DTC. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If DTC is present, replace PCM. If DTC is not present, intermittent poor harness connection may have caused DTC to originally set.

Scheme 44
- Ensure FREEZE FRAME DATA has been recorded. Inspect all applicable harness connectors. Repair as needed and go to next step.
- Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Record PID data for IAT V. Compare reading with specification. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If data is not within specification, go to next step. If data is within specification, go to step 6.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect IAT sensor connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and terminal "A" (Orange/Blue wire) on harness connector. If 5 volts is present, go to next step. If 5 volts is not present, check for open or short Orange/Blue wire between IAT sensor and PCM. (Scheme 44) Repair as needed and go next step.
- Check continuity of Black/Yellow wire between terminal "B" on IAT sensor harness connector and terminal No. 3AB on PCM harness connector. (Scheme 43)and (Scheme 44). PCM is mounted in front of center console, under radio. If continuity does not exist, repair as needed. Go to next step. If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Inspect IAT sensor. See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as needed. If IAT sensor is okay, go to next step.
- Erase DTC. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If DTC is present, replace PCM. If DTC is not present, intermittent poor harness connection may have caused DTC to originally set.
- Ensure FREEZE FRAME DATA has been recorded. Inspect all applicable harness connectors. Repair as needed and go to next step.
- Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Record PID data for ECT V. Compare reading with specification. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If data is not within specification, go to next step. If data is within specification, go to step 6.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECT sensor connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and terminal "A" (Red/Green wire) on harness connector. If 5 volts is present, go to next step. If 5 volts is not present, check for open or short of Red/Green wire between ECT sensor and PCM. (Scheme 44) Repair as needed and go to next step.
- Check continuity of Black/Yellow wire between terminal "B" on ECT harness connector and terminal No. 3AB on PCM harness connector. (Scheme 44) PCM is mounted in front of center console, under radio. If continuity does not exist, repair as needed. Go to next step. If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Inspect ECT sensor. See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as needed. If ECT sensor is okay, go to next step.
- Erase DTC. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If DTC is present, replace PCM. If DTC is not present, intermittent poor harness connection may have caused DTC to originally set.
- Ensure FREEZE FRAME DATA has been recorded. Inspect all applicable harness connectors. Repair as needed and go to next step.
- Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Record PID data for TP V. Compare reading with specification. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If data is not within specification, go to next step. If data is within specification, go to step 7.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect TP sensor connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and terminal "A" (Light Green/Red wire) on harness connector. (Scheme 45) If 5 volts is present, go to next step. If 5 volts is not present, check for open or short of Light Green/Red wire between TP sensor and PCM. (Scheme 44)and (Scheme 45). Repair as needed and go to next step.
- Check continuity of Black/Yellow wire between terminal "D" on TP harness connector and terminal No. 3AB on PCM harness connector. (Scheme 44)and (Scheme 45). If continuity does not exist, repair as needed. Go to next step. If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Check continuity of Yellow/Red wire between terminal "B" on TP harness connector and terminal No. 3B on PCM harness connector. (Scheme 44)and (Scheme 45). PCM is mounted in front of center console, under radio. If continuity does not exist, repair as needed. Go to next step. If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Inspect MAF sensor. See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as needed. If MAF sensor is okay, go to next step.
- Erase DTC. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If DTC is present, replace PCM. If DTC is not present, intermittent poor harness connection may have caused DTC to originally set.
Scheme 45
- Ensure FREEZE FRAME DATA has been recorded. Inspect cooling fan system. See appropriate article in ENGINE COOLING. Repair as needed and go to next step. If cooling fan system is okay, go to next step.
- Inspect ECT sensor. See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as needed. If ECT sensor is okay, go to next step.
- Inspect engine cooling system. Repair as needed and go to next step. If cooling system is okay, go to next step.
- Erase DTC. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If DTC is present, replace PCM. If DTC is not present, intermittent system malfunction may have caused DTC to originally set.
Preliminary Inspection
Manufacturer recommends that the following components and/or systems be inspected to ensure proper operation. Deterioration or malfunction of following components and/or systems could contribute to DTC P0130 being set
- PRC Solenoid.
- Fuel Pressure Regulator.
- Fuel Pump.
- Fuel Filter.
- Exhaust system.
- PCV Valve.
- Purge Solenoid.
- EVAP System.
- Ignition Coil.
- CMP Sensor.
- Engine Compression.
- Mass Airflow Sensor.
- ECT Sensor.
- TP Sensor.
- EGR System.
- Vacuum Hoses.
For testing and adjustment information on items listed, see SERVICE & ADJUSTMENT SPECIFICATIONS, ON-VEHICLE ADJUSTMENTS, BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES, VACUUM DIAGRAMS and appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING articles.
- Ensure FREEZE FRAME PID DATA and DIAGNOSTIC MONITORING TEST results have been recorded. Verify stored DTCs. If DTCs P0433, P0510, P1250 and/or P1402 are present, repair those DTC(s) first and go to step 9 . If DTCs P0433, P0510, P1250 and/or P1402 are not present, go to next step.
- Verify if DTCs P0130, P0136 and/or P0150 are present in FREEZE FRAME PID DATA. If DTCs P0130, P0136 and/or P0150 are present, go to next step. If DTCs P0130, P0136 and/or P0150 are not present, repair DTC(s) present in FREEZE FRAME PID DATA and go to step 9 .
- Erase DTCs. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Conduct drive cycle mode No. 3 under DRIVE CYCLE PROCEDURE. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Using scan tool, verify TEST #10:01:11, #10:02:11 or #10:03:11 in DIAGNOSTIC MONITORING TEST RESULTS. If any test exceeds MAX value, go to next step. If no test exceeds MAX value, problem may be intermittent. Ensure all applicable connections are clean and tight. Recheck for DTCs.
- Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Record PID data for MAF V, ECT V, TP V and CTP SW. Compare readings with specifications. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If any data is not within specification, go to applicable test in appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. If all data is within specification, go to next step.
- Referring to FREEZE FRAME PID DATA, operate vehicle under same conditions as when DTC was set. Record PID data for MAF V, ECT V, TP V and CTP SW. Compare readings with specifications. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If any data is not within specification, go to applicable test in appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. If all data is within specification, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, verify TEST #10:01:21, #10:02:21 or #10:03:21 in DIAGNOSTIC MONITORING TEST RESULTS. If any test exceeds MAX value, go to next step. If none of the tests exceed MAX value, go to step 9 .
- Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Monitor FHO2S R. Depress accelerator pedal to Wide Open Throttle (WOT) and release to race engine. Scan tool should display heated oxygen sensor voltage greater than .45 volt during rich condition and less than .45 volt during lean condition. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, replace heated oxygen sensor and retest.
- Inspect right front heated oxygen sensor heater. See DTC P0135. Repair as needed and go to next step. If heated oxygen sensor heater is functioning correctly, go to next step.
- Monitor LONGFT1 and SHRTFT1 on FREEZE FRAME PID DATA. If fuel trim is shifting to lean condition, go to next step. If fuel trim is inactive or slow to respond, inspect air intake system for leaks. Repair as needed and retest.
- Repeat step 3) . If any test exceeds MAX value, repeat test from step 1 . If no test exceeds MAX value, verify PENDING TROUBLE CODE DTC and DIAGNOSTIC MONITORING TEST RESULTS using scan tool. If any DTCs are present, go to applicable test and repair as needed. If no DTCs are present, testing is complete.
Manufacturer recommends that the following components and/or systems be inspected to ensure proper operation. Deterioration or malfunction of following components and/or systems could contribute to DTC P0134 being set
- Fuel Pressure Regulator.
- Fuel Pump.
- Fuel Filter.
- Exhaust System.
- Ignition Coil.

- Mass Airflow Sensor.
- ECT Sensor.
- TP Sensor.
- EGR System.
- Vacuum Hoses.

- Ensure FREEZE FRAME PID DATA have been recorded. Verify stored DTCs. If DTCs P0510 and/or P1402 are present, repair those DTC(s) first and go to step 8 . If DTCs P0510 and/or P1402are not present, go to next step.
- Verify if DTCs P0134, P0140 and/or P0154 are present in FREEZE FRAME PID DATA. If either DTC is present, go to next step. If neither DTC is present, repair DTC(s) present in FREEZE FRAME PID DATA and go to step 8 .
- Erase DTCs. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Referring to FREEZE FRAME PID DATA, operate vehicle for at least 2 minutes under same conditions as when DTC was set. Verify if DTCs P0134 and/or P0154 are present in PENDING TROUBLE CODE information. If either code is present, go to next step. If neither code is present, problem may be intermittent. Ensure all applicable connections are clean and tight.
- Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Record PID data for MAF V, ECT V and CTP SW. Compare readings with specifications. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If any data is not within specification, go to applicable test in appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. If all data is within specification, go to next step.
- Referring to FREEZE FRAME PID DATA, operate vehicle under same conditions as when DTC was set. Record PID data for MAF V, ECT V and CTP SW. Compare readings with specifications. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If any data is not within specification, go to applicable test in appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. If all data is within specification, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Monitor FHO2S R. Depress accelerator pedal to Wide Open Throttle (WOT) and release to race engine. Scan tool should display heated oxygen sensor voltage greater than .45 volt during rich condition and less than .45 volt during lean condition. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, replace heated oxygen sensor and retest.
- Inspect right front heated oxygen sensor heater. See «DTC P0135: RIGHT FRONT HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR HEATER MALFUNCTION»(ref-2843-S21180930542000041300000) . Repair as needed and go to next step. If heated oxygen sensor heater is functioning correctly, go to next step.
- INTRODUCTION article. Conduct drive cycle mode No. 3 under DRIVE CYCLE PROCEDURE. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Verify if any DTCs are stored or are present in PENDING TROUBLE CODE information. If no DTCs are present, testing is complete. If any DTCs are present, go to applicable test and repair.
- Inspect all applicable harness connectors. Repair as needed. Turn ignition on. Access PCM harness connector. PCM is mounted in front of center console, under radio. Using voltmeter, backprobe applicable PCM harness connector. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 4E (Brown wire). (Scheme 44)
- Voltage should be less than one volt with engine idling at normal operating temperature. If voltage is within specification, go to step 6. If voltage is not within specification, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect right front heated oxygen sensor harness connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and terminal "C" (Red/Black wire) on right front heated oxygen sensor harness connector. (Scheme 46) If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair Red/Black wire between right front heated oxygen sensor and main relay.
- Turn ignition off. Check continuity of Brown wire between terminal "D" on right front heated oxygen sensor harness connector and terminal No. 4E on PCM connector. (Scheme 44)and (Scheme 46). If continuity does not exist, repair as needed. Go to next step. If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Check continuity between terminals "C" (Red/Black wire) and "D" (Blown wire) on right front heated oxygen sensor component connector. (Scheme 46) If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace right front heated oxygen sensor.
- Erase DTC. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If DTC is present, replace PCM. If DTC is not present, intermittent poor harness connection may have caused DTC to originally set.
Scheme 46
Manufacturer recommends that the following components and/or systems be inspected to ensure proper operation. Deterioration or malfunction of following components and/or systems could contribute to DTC P0136 being set

- Ensure FREEZE FRAME PID DATA and DIAGNOSTIC MONITORING TEST results have been recorded. Verify stored DTCs. If DTCs P0433, P0510, P1250 and/or P1402 are present, repair those DTC(s) first and go to step 10 . If DTCs P0433, P0510, P1250 and/or P1402 are not present, go to next step.
- Verify if DTC P0136 is present in FREEZE FRAME PID DATA. If DTC is present, go to next step. If DTC is present, repair DTC(s) present in FREEZE FRAME PID DATA and go to step 10 .
- Using scan tool, verify TEST #10:01:11, #10:02:11, #10:03:11, #10:01:21, #10:02:21 or #10:03:21 in DIAGNOSTIC MONITORING TEST RESULTS. If any test exceeds MAX value, inspect and repair DTC for either P0130 or P0150. Go to step 10 .
- Erase DTCs. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Conduct drive cycle mode No. 3 under DRIVE CYCLE PROCEDURE. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Using scan tool, verify TEST #10:01:12, #10:02:12 or #10:03:12 in DIAGNOSTIC MONITORING TEST RESULTS. If any test exceeds MAX value, go to next step. If no test exceeds MAX value, problem may be intermittent. Ensure all applicable connections are clean and tight. Recheck for DTCs.
- Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Record PID data for MAF V, ECT V, TP V and CTP SW. Compare readings with specifications. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If any data is not within specification, go to applicable test in appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. If all data is within specification, go to next step.
- Referring to FREEZE FRAME PID DATA, operate vehicle under same conditions as when DTC was set. Record PID data for MAF V, ECT V, TP V and CTP SW. Compare readings with specifications. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If any data is not within specification, go to applicable test in appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. If all data is within specification, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, verify TEST #10:01:21, #10:02:21 or #10:03:21 in DIAGNOSTIC MONITORING TEST RESULTS. If any test exceeds MAX value, go to next step. If none of the tests exceed MAX value, go to step 10 .
- Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Monitor MHO2S. Depress accelerator pedal to Wide Open Throttle (WOT) and release to race engine. Scan tool should display heated oxygen sensor voltage greater than .45 volt during rich condition and less than .45 volt during lean condition. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, replace heated oxygen sensor and retest.
- Inspect right front heated oxygen sensor heater. See DTC P0135. Repair as needed and go to step 11 . If heated oxygen sensor heater is functioning correctly, go to next step.
- Monitor LONGFT1 and SHRTFT1 on FREEZE FRAME PID DATA. If fuel trim is shifting to lean condition, go to next step. If fuel trim is inactive or slow to respond, inspect air intake system for leaks. Repair as needed and retest.

- Verify if DTCs P0130, P0134 and/or P0150 are present in FREEZE FRAME PID DATA. If DTCs P0130, P0134 and/or P0150 are present, go to next step. If DTCs P0130, P0134 and/or P0150 are not present, repair DTC(s) present in FREEZE FRAME PID DATA and go to step 8 .
- Erase DTCs. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Referring to FREEZE FRAME PID DATA, operate vehicle for at least 2 minutes under same conditions as when DTC was set. Verify if either DTCs P0134 and/or P0154 are present in PENDING TROUBLE CODE information. If either code is present, go to next step. If neither code is present, problem may be intermittent. Ensure all applicable connections are clean and tight.
- Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Record PID data for MAF V, ECT V and CTP SW. Compare readings with specifications. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If any data is not within specification, go to applicable test in appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. If all data is within specification, go to next step.
- Referring to FREEZE FRAME PID DATA, operate vehicle under same conditions as when DTC was set. Record PID data for MAF V, ECT V and CTP SW. Compare readings with specifications. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If any data is not within specification, go to applicable test in appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. If all data is within specification, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Monitor MHO2S. Depress accelerator pedal to Wide Open Throttle (WOT) and release to race engine. Scan tool should display heated oxygen sensor voltage greater than .45 volt during rich condition and less than .45 volt during lean condition. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, replace heated oxygen sensor and retest.
- Inspect right front heated oxygen sensor heater. See «DTC P0135: RIGHT FRONT HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR HEATER MALFUNCTION»(ref-2843-S21180930542000041300000) . Repair as needed and go to next step. If right front heated oxygen sensor heater is functioning correctly, go to next step.
- Erase DTCs. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Conduct drive cycle mode No. 3 under DRIVE CYCLE PROCEDURE. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Verify if any DTCs are stored or are present in PENDING TROUBLE CODE information. If no DTCs are present, testing is complete. If any DTCs are present, go to applicable test and repair.
- Inspect all applicable harness connectors. Repair as needed. Turn ignition on. Access PCM harness connector. PCM is mounted in front of center console, under radio. Using voltmeter, backprobe applicable PCM harness connector. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 3C (Black/Red wire). (Scheme 44)
- Voltage should be less than one volt with engine idling at normal operating temperature. If voltage is within specification, go to step 6. If voltage is not within specification, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect middle heated oxygen sensor harness connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and terminal "C" (Red/Black wire) on middle heated oxygen sensor harness connector. (Scheme 47) If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair White wire between sensor and main relay.
- Turn ignition off. Check continuity of Black/Red wire between terminal "D" on middle heated oxygen sensor harness connector and terminal No. 3C on PCM connector. (Scheme 44)and (Scheme 47). If continuity does not exist, repair as needed. Go to next step. If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Check continuity between terminals "C" (Red/Black wire) and "D" (Black/Red wire) on middle heated oxygen sensor component connector. (Scheme 47) If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace middle heated oxygen sensor.
- Erase DTC. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If DTC is present, replace PCM. If DTC is not present, intermittent poor harness connection may have caused DTC to originally set.

- Inspect all applicable harness connectors. Repair as needed. Turn ignition on. Access PCM harness connector. PCM is mounted in front of center console, under radio. Using voltmeter, backprobe applicable PCM harness connector. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 3C. (Scheme 44)
- Verify if DTCs P0144 is present in FREEZE FRAME PID DATA. If DTC is present, go to next step. If DTC is not present, repair DTC present in FREEZE FRAME PID DATA and go to step 6.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect rear heated oxygen sensor and PCM harness connectors. Check continuity between terminals "C" and "D" on rear heated oxygen sensor component connector. (Scheme 47) If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace rear heated oxygen sensor.
- Check continuity between terminals "C" and "D" on rear heated oxygen sensor harness connector. (Scheme 47) If continuity exists, repair short in rear heated oxygen sensor. If continuity does not exist, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and terminal "C" on middle heated oxygen sensor harness connector. (Scheme 47) If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair White wire between sensor and main relay.
- Erase DTC. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If DTC is present, replace PCM. If DTC is not present, intermittent poor harness connection may have caused DTC to originally set.

- Monitor LONGFT2 and SHRTFT2 on FREEZE FRAME PID DATA. If fuel trim is shifting to lean condition, go to next step. If fuel trim is inactive or slow to respond, inspect air intake system for leaks. Repair as needed and retest.
- Repeat step 3 . If any test exceeds MAX value, repeat test from step 1 . If no test exceeds MAX value, use scan tool to verify PENDING TROUBLE CODE DTC and DIAGNOSTIC MONITORING TEST RESULTS. - Check continuity between terminals "C" (Red/Black wire) and "D" (White/Blue wire) on left front heated oxygen sensor component connector. (Scheme 46) If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace left front heated oxygen sensor.

- Monitor LONGFT2 and SHRTFT2 on GENERIC OBDII FUNCTIONS. Add values to data received in step 7) . If values are within 15 percent, go to next step. If values are not within 15 percent, repeat test from step 4 .

- Referring to FREEZE FRAME PID DATA, operate vehicle under same conditions as when DTC was set. Record PID data for MAF V, ECT V, TP V and CTP SW. Compare readings with specifications. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If any data is not within specification, go to applicable test in appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. If all data is within specification, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Monitor FHO2S R and FHO2S L. Depress accelerator pedal to Wide Open Throttle (WOT) and release to race engine. Scan tool should display heated oxygen sensor voltage greater than .45 volt during rich condition and less than .45 volt during lean condition. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, replace heated oxygen sensor and retest.
- Monitor LONGFT1 and SHRTFT1 on FREEZE FRAME PID DATA. If fuel trim is shifting to lean condition, go to next step. If fuel trim is inactive or slow to respond, inspect air intake system for leaks. Repair as needed and retest.
- Monitor LONGFT2 and SHRTFT2 on GENERIC OBDII FUNCTIONS. Add values to data received in step 7) . If values are within 15 percent, go to next step. If values are not within 15 percent, repeat test from step 4 .
- Erase DTCs. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Conduct drive cycle mode No. 3 under DRIVE CYCLE PROCEDURE. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Verify if any DTCs are stored or are present in PENDING TROUBLE CODE information. If no DTCs are present, testing is complete. If any DTCs are present, go to applicable test and repair.
- Ensure FREEZE FRAME PID DATA has been recorded. Verify stored DTCs. If DTCs P0433, P0500, P0510, P0703, P1250 and/or P1402 are present, repair those DTC(s) first and go to step 8 . If DTCs P0433, P0500, P0510, P0703, P1250 and/or P1402 are not present, go to next step.
- Verify if DTC P0300 is present in FREEZE FRAME PID DATA. If DTC is present, go to next step. If DTC is not present, repair DTC(s), present in FREEZE FRAME PID DATA and go to step 8 .
- Erase DTCs. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Race engine in neutral 2 to 3 times. Referring to FREEZE FRAME PID DATA, operate vehicle for at least 2 minutes under same conditions as when DTC was set. If MIL flashes, go to step 5 . If MIL does not flash, go to next step.
- Test drive vehicle under conditions reported by customer. If drive line vibrates, inspect and repair possible source of vibration. Go to step 8 . If no vibration is present, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Record PID data for IGSW, RPM, TPS V, ECT V, IAT V, MAF V, BRKSW and VSS with ignition switch on and engine idling. Compare readings with specifications. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If any data is not within specification, go to applicable test in appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Go to step 8 . If all data is within specification, go to next step.
- Referring to FREEZE FRAME PID DATA, operate vehicle under same conditions as when DTC was set. Record PID data for IGSW, RPM, TPS V, ECT V, IAT V, MAF V, BRKSW and VSS. If any DTCs are present, go to applicable test and repair.
- Ensure FREEZE FRAME PID DATA has been recorded. Verify stored DTCs. If DTCs P0335, P0340, P0433, P0500, P0510, P0703, P1250 and/or P1402 are present, repair those DTC(s) first and go to step 8 . If DTCs P0335, P0340, P0433, P0500, P0510, P0703, P1250 and/or P1402 are not present, go to next step.
- Verify if DTCs P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0305 and/or P0306 is present in FREEZE FRAME PID DATA. If DTCs P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0305 and/or P0306 are present, go to next step. If DTCs P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0305 and/or P0306 are not present, repair DTC(s), present in FREEZE FRAME PID DATA and go to step 8 .
- Erase DTCs. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICSINTRODUCTION article. Race engine in neutral 2 to 3 times. Referring to FREEZE FRAME PID DATA, operate vehicle for at least 2 minutes under same conditions as when DTC was set. If MIL flashes, go to step 5 . If MIL does not flash, go to next step.
- Test drive vehicle under conditions reported by customer. If drive line vibrates, inspect and repair possible source of vibration. Go to step 8 . If no vibration is present, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Record PID data for IGSW, RPM, TPS V, ECT V, IAT V, MAF V, BRKSW and VSS with ignition switch on and engine idling. Compare readings with specifications. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If any data is not within specification, go to applicable test in appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Go to step 8 . - Ensure FREEZE FRAME PID DATA has been recorded. Inspect all applicable connections. Repair as needed. Disconnect knock sensor harness connector. Check continuity of White wire between terminal "A" of knock sensor and terminal No. 3S on PCM. (Scheme 44) If continuity does not exist, repair White wire. If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Check knock sensor. See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as needed. If knock sensor is okay, go to next step.
- Erase DTC. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If DTC is present, replace PCM. If DTC is not present, intermittent poor harness connection may have caused DTC to originally set.
- Ensure FREEZE FRAME PID DATA has been recorded. Inspect all applicable harness connectors. Repair as needed. Ensure ignition is off. Check continuity of Blue wire between terminal "B" on CKP sensor harness connector and terminal No. 4AL on PCM connector. (Scheme 44)and (Scheme 48). If continuity does not exist, repair Blue wire. If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Check continuity of Green wire between terminal "A" on CKP sensor harness connector and terminal No. 4AH on PCM connector. (Scheme 44)and (Scheme 48). If continuity does not exist, repair Green wire. If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Check CKP sensor air gap. See BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES article. Adjust as needed. If air gap as needed, go to next step.
- Check CKP sensor. See BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES article. Replace as needed. If CKP sensor is okay, go to next step.
- Erase DTC. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If DTC is present, replace PCM. If DTC is not present, intermittent poor harness connection may have caused DTC to originally set.
Scheme 48
- Ensure FREEZE FRAME PID DATA has been recorded. Verify stored DTCs. If DTCs P1195 and/or P1402 are present, repair those DTC(s) first and go to step 12 . If DTCs P1195 and/or P1402 are not present, go to next step.
- Inspect engine vacuum. If vacuum is low or erratic, inspect and repair vacuum system and go to step 12 . If engine vacuum is okay, go to next step.
- Verify if DTC P0400 is recorded on FREEZE FRAME PID DATA. If DTC P0400 is present, go to next step. If DTC P0400 is not present, go to step 5 .
- Erase DTCs. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICSINTRODUCTION article. Conduct drive cycle mode No. 2 under DRIVE CYCLE PROCEDURE. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Using scan tool, verify TEST #10:41:00 in DIAGNOSTIC MONITORING TEST RESULTS. If test exceeds MAX value, go to next step. If test does not exceed MAX value, problem may be intermittent. Ensure all applicable connections are clean and tight. Recheck for DTCs.
- Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Record PID data for BARO, MAF V, TPS V and IAT V. Compare readings with specifications. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If any data is not within specification, go to applicable test in appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. If all data is within specification, go to next step.
- Referring to FREEZE FRAME PID DATA, operate vehicle under same conditions as when DTC was set. Record PID data for BARO, MAF V, TPS V and IAT V. Compare readings with specifications. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If any data is not within specification, go to applicable test in appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. If all data is within specification, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, conduct IGNITION ON TEST in SIMULATION TEST. Switch EGRBV from OFF to ON. If solenoid can be heard operating, go to next step. If solenoid cannot be heard operating, go to step 10 .
- Using scan tool, conduct IDLING TEST in SIMULATION TEST. Disconnect vacuum hose on BARO sensor. Connect vacuum gauge. Switch EGRBV from OFF to ON. If vacuum is present, go to next step. If no vacuum is present, go to step 10 .
- Inspect all EGR vent and vacuum hoses. Repair or replace as needed. If all hoses are okay, go to next step.
- Inspect the EGR boost sensor solenoid. See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as needed. If EGR boost sensor solenoid is okay, go to next step.
- Inspect EGR valve. See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as needed. If EGR valve is okay, go to next step.
- Erase DTCs. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Conduct drive cycle mode No. 2 under DRIVE CYCLE PROCEDURE. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Using scan tool, verify TEST #10:41:00 in DIAGNOSTIC MONITORING TEST RESULTS. If test exceeds MAX value, go to next step. If no test exceeds MAX value, problem may be intermittent. Ensure all applicable connections are clean and tight. Recheck for DTCs.
- Using scan tool, verify PENDING TROUBLE CODE DTCs and DIAGNOSTIC MONITORING TEST RESULTS using scan tool. If any DTCs are present, go to applicable test and repair as needed. If no DTCs are present, testing is complete.
- Ensure FREEZE FRAME PID DATA has been recorded. Inspect all applicable harness connectors. Repair as needed. Turn ignition on. Access PCM harness connector. PCM is mounted in front of center console, under radio. Using voltmeter, backprobe applicable PCM harness connector. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 4G (Green/Orange wire). (Scheme 44) If battery voltage is present, go to step 4. If battery voltage is not present, go to next step.
- Disconnect EGR solenoid valve (vent) harness connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and terminal "A" (Red/Black wire). If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, check for open or short of Red/Black wire between EGR solenoid valve and main relay.
- Inspect EGR solenoid valve. See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as needed. If EGR solenoid valve is okay, go to next step.
- Erase DTC. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If DTC is present, replace PCM. If DTC is not present, intermittent poor harness connection may have caused DTC to originally set.
- Ensure FREEZE FRAME PID DATA and DIAGNOSTIC MONITORING TEST RESULTS have been recorded. Verify stored DTCs. If DTC P0100 or P0120 is present, inspect and repair first, then go to step 10 . If DTC P0100 and/or P0120 are not present, go to next step.
- Determine if DTC P0420 is recorded on FREEZE FRAME PID DATA. If DTC P0420 is present, go to next step. If DTC P0420 is not present, inspect and repair any other recorded DTCs. Go to step 10 .
- Erase DTCs. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Conduct drive cycle mode No. 3 under DRIVE CYCLE PROCEDURE. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Using scan tool, verify TEST #10:11:11 in DIAGNOSTIC MONITORING TEST RESULTS. If test exceeds MIN value, go to next step. If test does not exceed MIN value, problem may be intermittent. Ensure all applicable connections are clean and tight. Recheck for DTCs.
- Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Record PID data for MAF V. Compare reading with specification. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If data is not within specification, go to next step. If data is within specification, go to step 10 .
- Referring to FREEZE FRAME PID DATA, operate vehicle under same conditions as when DTC was set. Record PID data for MAFV and TPV. Compare readings with specifications. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If any data is not within specification, go to applicable test in appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. If all data is within specification, go to next step.
- Inspect exhaust system for any leakage. Repair as needed. Go to step 10 . If exhaust system is okay, go to next step.
- Inspect middle and rear heated oxygen sensors. See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as needed. Go to step 10 . If both heated oxygen sensors are okay, go to next step.
- Inspect rear heated oxygen sensor heater. See «DTC P0147: REAR HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR HEATER MALFUNCTION»(ref-2843-S09893479312000041300000) . Repair as needed and go to step 10 . If heated oxygen sensor heater is functioning correctly, replace catalytic converter. Go to next step.
- Repeat step 3) . If test exceeds MIN value, go to next step. If test does not exceed MIN value, go to step 2) .
- Using scan tool, verify PENDING TROUBLE CODE DTC and DIAGNOSTIC MONITORING TEST RESULTS using scan tool. If any DTCs are present, go to applicable test and repair as needed. If no DTCs are present, testing is complete.
- Ensure FREEZE FRAME DATA has been recorded. Determine if any other engine performance related DTCs are present. Repair those DTCs first. If no other engine performance related DTCs are present, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, monitor PID data (BARO V, ECT V, FTL V, FTP V, IAT V, MAF V, TPS V and VS). See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If any signals are not within specification with ignition on or at idle, see applicable component test in appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Repair harness or replace malfunctioning component as needed. Go to step 19 . If all signals are within specification, go to next step.
- Referring to FREEZE FRAME PID DATA, operate vehicle under same conditions, for about one minute, as when DTC was set. Record PID data for BARO V, ECT V, FTL V, FTP V, IAT V, MAF V, TPS V and VS. Compare readings with specifications. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If any data is not within specification, go to applicable test in appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Repair harness or connector as needed. Go to step 19 . If all data is within specification, go to next step.
- Inspect fuel filler cap. Ensure filler cap is secure and not leaking. If cap is an after-market brand (non-OEM), replace with factory brand cap. Go to step 19 . If cap is okay, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, conduct IDLING TEST in SIMULATION TEST. Detach vacuum hose between charcoal canister and purge solenoid valve at purge solenoid valve side. Increase PRGV (purge solenoid valve) from 0 to 100 percent. Measure negative pressure (vacuum). Reading should change from atmospheric pressure to intake manifold negative pressure. If system operates correctly, go to step 10 . If system does not operate correctly, go to next step.
- Carefully pull on vacuum lines at purge solenoid valve and charcoal canister. Inspect all vacuum and vapor lines for looseness, improper connection and cracking at intake manifold and charcoal canister through purge solenoid valve. Repair or replace as needed. Go to step 19 . If all lines are okay, go to next step.
- Disconnect EVAP vacuum line from intake manifold. Connect vacuum pump to disconnected hose. Apply .5 in. Hg and ensure vacuum remains at .5 in. Hg for at least 2 minutes. If vacuum holds for 2 minutes, go to next step. If vacuum does not hold for 2 minutes, checked for cracked hoses and leaks. Repair or replace as necessary. Go to step 19 .
- Disconnect hose, located between charcoal canister and purge solenoid valve, from charcoal canister. Connect vacuum pump to disconnected hose. Apply .5 in. Hg and ensure vacuum remains at .5 in. Hg for at least 2 minutes. If vacuum holds for 2 minutes, go to next step. If vacuum does not hold for 2 minutes, checked for cracked hoses and leaks. Repair or replace as necessary. Go to step 19 .
- Inspect purge solenoid valve. See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as needed. Go to step 19 . If purge solenoid valve is okay, go to next step.
- Remove charcoal canister. Inspect for damage or clogging. Ensure charcoal canister does not leak. Replace as needed. Go to step 19 . If charcoal canister is okay, go to next step.
- Pinch off hose between pressure control valve and charcoal canister. Remove fuel filler cap. Monitor PID data (FTP, FTPV). FTP (fuel tank pressure) and FTP V (fuel tank pressure signal voltage) should be the same as atmospheric pressure. If system operates correctly, install filler cap. Go to step 16 . If system does not operate correctly, go to next step.
- Inspect Fuel Tank Pressure (FTP) sensor. See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as needed. Go to step 17 . If FTP sensor is okay, go to next step.
- Connect vacuum pump to fuel tank side of charcoal canister hose. Apply .5 in. Hg. Monitor PID data (FTP, FTPV). FTP (fuel tank pressure) and FTP V (fuel tank pressure signal voltage) should indicate .5 in. Hg for at least one minute. If vacuum reading is as specified, go to step 18 . If vacuum reading is not as specified, go to next step.
- Inspect all vacuum and vapor lines for looseness, improper connection and cracking at intake manifold and charcoal canister through purge solenoid valve. Repair or replace as needed. Go to step 19 . If all lines are okay, go to next step.
- Inspect Tank Pressure Control Valve (TPCV). See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as needed. Go to step 19 . If TPCV is okay, go to next step.
- Remove and visually inspect fuel filler pipe for damage. Replace as necessary. Go to step 19 . If fuel filler pipe is okay, go to next step.
- Remove fuel tank. Inspect fuel tank and sending unit for leakage or damage. Repair or replace as needed. Go to step 19 . If fuel tank and sending unit are okay, go to next step.
- Inspect Canister Drain Cut Valve (CDCV). See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as needed. Go to next step. If CDCV is okay, go to next step.
- Erase DTCs. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Conduct drive cycle mode No. 4 under DRIVE CYCLE PROCEDURE. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Using scan tool, verify TEST #10:21:00 in DIAGNOSTIC MONITORING TEST RESULTS. If test exceeds MAX value, go to next step. If test does not exceed MAX value, problem may be intermittent. Ensure all applicable connections are clean and tight. Recheck for DTCs.
- Using scan tool, verify PENDING TROUBLE CODE DTC and DIAGNOSTIC MONITORING TEST RESULTS using scan tool. If any DTCs are present, go to applicable test and repair as needed. If no DTCs are present, testing is complete.
- Inspect all applicable harness connectors. Repair as needed. Inspect purge solenoid valve. See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as needed. If purge solenoid valve is okay, go to next step.
- Inspect evaporative hose between purge solenoid valve and intake manifold. Repair or replace as needed. If hose is okay, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Record PRGV duty value. Value should be zero percent. If data is not as specified, go to next step. If data is as specified, go to step 8.
- Turn ignition on. Access PCM harness connector. PCM is mounted in front of center console, under radio. Using voltmeter, backprobe applicable PCM harness connector. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 4O (White/Black wire). (Scheme 44) If battery voltage is present, go to step 8. If battery voltage is not present, go to next step.
- Disconnect purge solenoid valve connector. Measure voltage between ground and terminal "A" (Red/Black wire). If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, check for open or short of Red/Black wire between purge solenoid valve and main relay.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM harness connector. Check continuity of White/Black wire between terminal "B" on purge solenoid valve harness connector and terminal No. 4O on PCM harness connector. (Scheme 44) If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair White/Black wire.
- Check continuity between terminals on purge solenoid valve component connector. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace purge solenoid valve.
- Erase DTCs. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If DTC resets, replace PCM. If DTC is not present, intermittent poor harness connection may have caused DTC to originally set.
- Ensure FREEZE FRAME PID DATA has been recorded. Inspect all applicable harness connectors. Repair as needed and go to next step.
- Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Record PID data for FTP V. Compare reading with specification. See Erase DTC. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If data is not within specification, go to next step. If data is within specification, go to step 6.
- Inspect fuel tank pressure sensor and connecting hose for freezing, clogs or breakage. Repair as needed. If sensor and hose are okay, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect fuel tank pressure sensor connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and terminal "C" on harness connector. (Scheme 43) If 5 volts is present, go to next step. If 5 volts is not present, check for open or short circuit between fuel tank pressure sensor and PCM. Repair as needed and go to next step.
- Inspect fuel tank pressure sensor. See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as needed. If fuel tank pressure sensor is okay, go to next step.
- Erase DTC. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If DTC is present, replace PCM. If DTC is not present, intermittent poor harness connection may have caused DTC to originally set.
- Ensure FREEZE FRAME DATA has been recorded. Determine if any other engine performance related DTCs are present. Repair those DTCs first. If no other engine performance related DTCs are present, go to next step.
- Verify if DTCs P0442, P0443, P0455, P1449 or P1450 is present in FREEZE FRAME PID DATA. If DTCs P0442, P0443, P0455, P1449 or P1450 are not present, go to next step. If DTCs P0442, P0443, P0455, P1449 or P1450 are present, repair DTC(s) present in FREEZE FRAME PID DATA and go to step 12 .
- Using scan tool, run IGNITION ON TEST under SIMULATION TEST. Turn Canister Drain Cut Valve (CDCV) from OFF to ON. CDCV and Tank Pressure Control Valve (TPCV) should be heard operating. If system does not operate correctly, go to next step. If system operates correctly, go to step 5 .
- Inspect Canister Drain Cut Valve (CDCV). See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as needed. Go to step 12 . If CDCV is okay, check for open or short in wire harness between CDCV and main relay, and between CDCV and PCM. Go to step 12 .
- Inspect Tank Pressure Control Valve (TPCV). See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as needed. Go to step 12 . If TPCV is okay, go to next step.
- Remove charcoal canister beside fuel tank. Inspect for damage or clogging. Replace as needed. Go to step 12 . If charcoal canister is okay, go to next step.
- Pinch off hose on fuel tank side of charcoal canister. Remove fuel filler cap. Monitor PID data (FTP, FTPV). FTP (fuel tank pressure) and FTP V (fuel tank pressure signal voltage) should be the same as atmospheric pressure. If system operates correctly, install filler cap. Go to step 9 . If system does not operate correctly, go to next step.
- Inspect Fuel Tank Pressure (FTP) sensor. See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as needed. Go to step 12 . If FTP sensor is okay, go to next step.
- Check for plugged 2-way check valve. See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as needed. Go to step 12 . If FTP sensor is okay, go to next step.
- Check for plugged EVAP air filter. Replace as necessary. Go to step 12 . If EVAP air filter is okay, check vacuum lines between charcoal canister and CDCV, CDCV and EVAP air filter, and EVAP air filter and 2-way check valve. Repair or replace as necessary. Go to step 12 .
- Erase DTCs. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Conduct drive cycle mode No. 4 under DRIVE CYCLE PROCEDURE. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Recheck for DTCs. If DTCs are not present, ensure all applicable connections are clean and tight. If connections are okay, go to next step. If DTCs are still present, replace PCM and go to next step.
- Using scan tool, verify PENDING TROUBLE CODE DTC and DIAGNOSTIC MONITORING TEST RESULTS using scan tool. If any DTCs are present, go to applicable test and repair as needed. If no DTCs are present, testing is complete.
- Ensure FREEZE FRAME DATA has been recorded. Determine if any other engine performance related DTCs are present. Repair those DTCs first. Go to step 23 . If no other engine performance related DTCs are present, go to next step.
- Connect vacuum gauge to vacuum port beside purge control system. Start and idle engine. Monitor manifold vacuum. If engine vacuum is within normal specification, go to next step. If engine vacuum is not within normal specification, repair engine intake system and/or engine performance problem. Go to step 23 .
- Monitor PID data (BARO V, ECT V, FTL V, FTP V, IAT V, MAF V, TPS V and VS). See PID DATA INFORMATION. If any signals are not within specification, see applicable component test in appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Go to step 23 . If all signals are within specification, go to next step.
- Continue monitoring PID data. Confirm RPM, LOAD, ECT and VSS FREEZE FRAME DATA. Operate vehicle for one minute and determine if any PID data items excessively change. BARO signal should change from atmospheric pressure to intake vacuum. If any signals suddenly change, check applicable component connections. Intermittent poor harness connection may have caused signal change. Repair harness or connector as needed. Go to step 23 . If all signals stay consistent and within specification, go to next step.
- Inspect fuel filler cap. Ensure filler cap is secure and not leaking. If cap is an after-market brand (non-OEM), replace with factory brand cap. Go to step 23 . If cap is okay, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, run IGNITION ON TEST under SIMULATION TEST. Turn Canister Drain Cut Valve (CDCV) from OFF to ON. CDCV and Tank Pressure Control Valve (TPCV) should be heard operating. If system does not operate correctly, go to step 5 . If system operates correctly, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, run IDLING TEST under SIMULATION TEST. Detach vacuum hose on charcoal canister. Increase PRGV (purge solenoid valve) from zero to 100 percent. Measure negative pressure (vacuum). Reading should change from atmospheric pressure to intake manifold negative pressure. If system operates correctly, go to step 14 . If system does not operate correctly, go to next step.
- Inspect all vacuum and vapor lines. Repair or replace as needed. Go to step 23 . If all lines are okay, go to next step.
- Disconnect EVAP vacuum hose from dynamic chamber (intake manifold). Apply .5 in Hg. of vacuum to disconnected hose for 2 minutes. If vacuum does not hold for 2 minutes, inspect all vacuum lines. Repair or replace as needed. Go to step 23 . If all lines are okay, go to next step.
- Disconnect vacuum hose, located between charcoal canister and purge solenoid valve, from charcoal canister. Apply .5 in Hg. of vacuum to disconnected hose for 2 minutes. If vacuum does not hold for 2 minutes, inspect all vacuum lines. Repair or replace as needed. Go to step 23 . If all lines are okay, go to next step.
- Inspect purge solenoid valve. See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as needed. Go to step 23 . If purge solenoid valve is okay, go to next step.
- Connect vacuum gauge to vacuum hose at purge control system. Start and idle engine. Monitor manifold vacuum. If engine vacuum is within normal specification, inspect wire harness between main relay and purge solenoid valve, and between purge solenoid valve and PCM. Repair or replace as needed. Go to step 23 . If engine vacuum is not within normal specification, repair engine intake system and/or engine performance problem. Go to step 23 .
- Inspect Canister Drain Cut Valve (CDCV). See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as needed. Go to step 23 . If CDCV is okay, go to next step.
- Remove charcoal canister beside fuel tank. Inspect for damage or clogging. Replace as needed. Go to step 23 . If charcoal canister is okay, go to next step.
- Pinch off hose on fuel tank side of charcoal canister. Remove fuel filler cap. Monitor PID data (FTP, FTPV). FTP (fuel tank pressure) and FTP V (fuel tank pressure signal voltage) should be the same as atmospheric pressure. If system operates correctly, install filler cap. Go to step 17 . If system does not operate correctly, go to next step.
- Inspect Fuel Tank Pressure (FTP) sensor. See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as needed. Go to step 23 . If FTP sensor is okay, go to next step.
- Inspect rollover valve. See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as needed. Go to step 23 . If rollover valve is okay, inspect for plugged vacuum hose, between FTP sensor and fuel tank. Repair as needed. Go to step 23 .
- Remove TPCV and install a "T" fitting. Attach vacuum pump to "T" fitting. Monitor PID data (FTP, FTP V). Apply vacuum to fitting. If FTP and FTP V values change to vacuum readings, go to step 23 . If FTP and FTP V values do not change to vacuum readings, go to next step.
- Inspect all vacuum lines. Repair or replace as needed. Go to step 23 . If all lines are okay, go to next step.
- Repeat step 18 . Apply .5 in Hg of vacuum. Monitor vacuum gauge for one minute. If vacuum is not maintained, inspect and repair leak. Go to step 23 . If vacuum is maintained, go to next step.
- Inspect Tank Pressure Control Valve (TPCV). See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as needed. Go to step 23 . If TPCV is okay, go to next step.
- Inspect fuel-filler pipe, fuel tank and sending unit for leakage or damage. Repair or replace as needed. If fuel tank and sending unit are okay, go to next step.
- Erase DTCs. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Conduct drive cycle mode No. 4 under DRIVE CYCLE PROCEDURE. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Using scan tool, verify TEST #10:22:00 in DIAGNOSTIC MONITORING TEST RESULTS. If test exceeds MAX value, go to next step. If test does not exceed MAX value, problem may be intermittent. Ensure all applicable connections are clean and tight. Recheck for DTCs.
- Using scan tool, verify PENDING TROUBLE CODE DTC and DIAGNOSTIC MONITORING TEST RESULTS using scan tool. If any DTCs are present, go to applicable test and repair as needed. If no DTCs are present, testing is complete.
- Ensure FREEZE FRAME PID DATA has been recorded. Inspect all applicable harness connectors. Repair as needed and go to next step.
- Inspect fuel gauge sending unit and PCM connectors for poor connection or loose wires. Repair or replace as needed. Go to step 7. If connectors are okay, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Record PID data for FTL V. Compare reading with specification. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If data is not within specification, go to next step. If data is within specification, go to step 7.
- Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster. Disconnect PCM harness connectors. PCM is mounted in front of center console, under radio. Check continuity of Green/Yellow wire between terminal No. 3K on PCM connector and terminal on fuel gauge sending unit. (Scheme 44) If continuity does not exist, repair as needed. Go to step 7. If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Inspect fuel gauge and fuel gauge sending unit. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. Repair or replace as needed. Go to step 7. If both components are okay, go to next step.
- Check continuity of Green/Yellow wire between terminal "B" on fuel gauge sending unit harness connector and terminal No. 2N on instrument cluster harness connector. (Scheme 43)and (Scheme 44). If continuity does not exist, repair as needed. Go to next step. If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Erase DTC. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If DTC is present, replace PCM. If DTC is not present, intermittent poor harness connection may have caused DTC to originally set.
- With combination removed, measure continuity between terminals No. 2D (Blue/White wire) and 2H (Red/Black wire) on combination meter connector. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace combination meter or circuit board (as applicable).
- Inspect VSS. See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as needed. If VSS is okay, go to next step.
- Erase DTC. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If DTC is present, replace PCM. If DTC is not present, intermittent poor harness connection may have caused DTC to originally set.
- Ensure FREEZE FRAME PID DATA has been recorded. Inspect all applicable harness connectors. Repair as needed, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Record PID data for VS. Compare reading with specification. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If data is not within specification, go to next step. If data is within specification, go to step 6.
- Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster. Disconnect PCM harness connectors. PCM is mounted in front of center console, under radio. Check continuity of Green/Red wire between terminal No. 1C on PCM connector and terminal No. 2K on instrument cluster harness connector. (Scheme 44) If continuity does not exist, repair as needed. Go to next step. If continuity exists, go to next step.
- With combination removed, measure continuity between terminals No. 2D and 2H on combination meter connector. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace combination meter or circuit board (as applicable).
- Inspect VSS. See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as needed. If VSS is okay, go to next step.
- Erase DTC. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If DTC is present, replace PCM. If DTC is not present, intermittent poor harness connection may have caused DTC to originally set.
- Ensure FREEZE FRAME PID DATA has been recorded. Ensure idle speed is within specification. See BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES article. Adjust as needed. Inspect all applicable harness connectors. Repair as needed. Go to next step.
- Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Record PID data for ACV. Compare reading with specification. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If data is not within specification, go to next step. If data is within specification, go to step 6.
- Disconnect IAC valve harness connector. Ensure ignition is on. Measure voltage between ground and terminal "A" (Red/Black wire) on IAC valve harness connector. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, check for open or short in Red/Black wire between IAC valve and main relay.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM harness connectors. PCM is mounted in front of center console, under radio. Check continuity of Blue/Black wire between terminal No. 4M on PCM connector and terminal "B" on IAC valve harness connector. (Scheme 44) If continuity does not exist, repair as needed. Go to next step. If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Check continuity between component terminals on IAC valve. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace IAC valve.
- Erase DTC. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If DTC is present, replace PCM. If DTC is not present, intermittent poor harness connection may have caused DTC to originally set.
- Ensure FREEZE FRAME PID DATA has been recorded. Inspect all applicable harness connectors. Repair as needed. Go to next step.
- Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Record PID data for CTP SW. Compare reading with specification. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If data is not within specification, go to next step. If data is within specification, go to step 6.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM harness connectors. PCM is mounted in front of center console, under radio. Check continuity of Black/Yellow wire between terminal No. 3AB on PCM connector and terminal "D" on TP sensor harness connector. (Scheme 44)and (Scheme 45). If continuity does not exist, repair as needed. Go to next step. If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Check continuity of Brown wire between terminal No. 3X on PCM connector and terminal "C" on TP sensor harness connector. (Scheme 44)and (Scheme 45). If continuity does not exist, repair as needed. Go to next step. If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Inspect closed throttle position switch. See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace TP sensor as needed. If TP sensor is okay, go to next step.
- Erase DTC. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If DTC is present, replace PCM. If DTC is not present, intermittent poor harness connection may have caused DTC to originally set.
- Ensure FREEZE FRAME PID DATA has been recorded. Inspect all applicable harness connectors. Repair as needed. Go to next step.
- Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Record PID data for PSP SW. Compare reading with specification. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If data is not within specification, go to next step. If data is within specification, go to step 4.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM harness connectors. PCM is mounted in front of center console, under radio. Check continuity of Gray/Green wire between terminal No. 3T on PCM connector and PSP switch terminal. (Scheme 44) If continuity does not exist, repair as needed. Go to next step. If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Erase DTCs. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If DTC resets, replace PCM. If DTC is not present, intermittent poor harness connection may have caused DTC to originally set.
- Ensure FREEZE FRAME PID DATA has been recorded. Inspect all applicable harness connectors. Repair as needed. Go to next step.
- Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Record PID data for BRK SW. Compare reading with specification. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If data is not within specification, go to next step. If data is within specification, go to step 4.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM harness connectors. PCM is mounted in front of center console, under radio. Check continuity of circuit between terminal No. 1O (White/Green wire) on PCM connector and brake switch terminal (Green/Black wire). (Scheme 44) If continuity does not exist, repair as needed. Go to next step. If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Erase DTCs. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If DTC resets, replace PCM. If DTC is not present, intermittent poor harness connection may have caused DTC to originally set.

- Erase DTCs. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Referring to FREEZE FRAME PID DATA, operate vehicle for at least 2 minutes under same conditions as when DTC was set. Verify if DTCs P1170 and/or P1173 is present in PENDING TROUBLE CODE information. If either code is present, go to next step. If neither code is present, problem may be intermittent. Ensure all applicable connections are clean and tight.
- Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Record PID data for MAF V, ECT V, TP V and CTP SW. Compare readings with specifications. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If any data is not within specification, go to applicable test in appropriate YSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. If all data is within specification, go to next step.
- Referring to FREEZE FRAME PID DATA, operate vehicle under same conditions as when DTC was set. Record PID data for MAF V, ECT V, TP V and CTP SW. Compare readings with specifications. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If any data is not within specification, go to applicable test in appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. If all data is within specification, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Monitor MHO2S. Depress accelerator pedal to Wide Open Throttle (WOT) and release to race engine. Scan tool should display heated oxygen sensor voltage greater than .45 volt during rich condition and less than .45 volt during lean condition. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, replace heated oxygen sensor and retest.
- Inspect middle front heated oxygen sensor heater. See DTC P0141. Repair as needed and go to next step. If heated oxygen sensor heater is functioning correctly, go to next step.
- Monitor LONGFT1 and SHRTFT1 on FREEZE FRAME PID DATA. If fuel trim is shifting to lean condition, go to next step. If fuel trim is inactive or slow to respond, inspect air intake system for leaks. Repair as needed and retest.
- Erase DTCs. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Conduct drive cycle mode No. 3 under DRIVE CYCLE PROCEDURE. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Verify if any DTCs are stored or are present in PENDING TROUBLE CODE information. If no DTCs are present, testing is complete. - Inspect right front heated oxygen sensor heater. See DTC P0135. Repair as needed and go to next step. If heated oxygen sensor heater is functioning correctly, go to next step.
- Monitor LONGFT1 and SHRTFT1 on FREEZE FRAME PID DATA. If fuel trim is shifting to lean condition, go to next step. If fuel trim is inactive or slow to respond, inspect air intake system for leaks. Repair as needed and retest.

- Ensure FREEZE FRAME PID DATA has been recorded. Verify stored DTCs. If DTCs P1250 and/or P1402 are present, repair those DTC(s) first and go to step 9 . If DTCs P1250 and/or P1402 are not present, go to next step.
- Verify if DTCs P1169, P1170 and/or P1173 are present in FREEZE FRAME PID DATA. If either DTC is present, go to next step. If neither DTC is present, repair DTC(s) present in FREEZE FRAME PID DATA and go to step 9 .
- Erase DTCs. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Referring to FREEZE FRAME PID DATA, operate vehicle for at least 2 minutes under same conditions as when DTC was set. Verify if DTCs P1170 and/or P1173 is present in PENDING TROUBLE CODE information. If either code is present, go to next step. If neither code is present, problem may be intermittent. Ensure all applicable connections are clean and tight.
- Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Record PID data for MAF V, ECT V, TP V and CTP SW. Compare readings with specifications. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If any data is not within specification, go to applicable test in appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. If all data is within specification, go to next step.
- Referring to FREEZE FRAME PID DATA, operate vehicle under same conditions as when DTC was set. Record PID data for MAF V, ECT V, TP V and CTP SW. Compare readings with specifications. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If any data is not within specification, go to applicable test in appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. If all data is within specification, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Monitor FHO2S L. Depress accelerator pedal to Wide Open Throttle (WOT) and release to race engine. Scan tool should display heated oxygen sensor voltage greater than .45 volt during rich condition and less than .45 volt during lean condition. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, replace heated oxygen sensor and retest.
- Inspect left front heated oxygen sensor heater. See DTC P0155. Repair as needed and go to next step. If heated oxygen sensor heater is functioning correctly, go to next step.
- Monitor LONGFT1 and SHRTFT1 on FREEZE FRAME PID DATA. If fuel trim is shifting to lean condition, go to next step. If fuel trim is inactive or slow to respond, inspect air intake system for leaks. Repair as needed and retest.
- Erase DTCs. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Conduct drive cycle mode No. 3 under DRIVE CYCLE PROCEDURE. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Verify if any DTCs are stored or are present in PENDING TROUBLE CODE information. If no DTCs are present, testing is complete. If any DTCs are present, go to applicable test and repair.
- Ensure FREEZE FRAME PID DATA has been recorded. Inspect EGR boost sensor. See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as needed. If EGR boost sensor is okay, go to next step.
- Inspect all applicable harness connectors. Repair as needed. If all connectors are okay, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Record PID data for BARO V. Compare reading with specification. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If data is not within specification, go to next step. If data is within specification, go to step 6.
- Disconnect EGR boost sensor harness connector. Measure voltage between ground and terminal "C" (Light Green/Red wire). (Scheme 43) If 5 volts is present, go to next step. If 5 volts is not present, check for open or short in Light Green/Red wire.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM harness connector. PCM is mounted in front of center console, under radio. Check continuity of Black/Yellow wire between terminal "B" on EGR boost sensor harness connector and terminal No. 3AB on PCM harness connector. (Scheme 43)and (Scheme 44). If continuity exists, replace EGR boost sensor. If continuity does not exist, repair Black/Yellow wire.
- Erase DTC. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If DTC is present, replace PCM. If DTC is not present, intermittent poor harness connection may have caused DTC to originally set.
- Ensure FREEZE FRAME PID DATA has been recorded. Inspect all applicable harness connectors. Repair as needed. Go to next step.
- Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Record PID data for IG SW. Compare reading with specification. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If data is not within specification, go to next step. If data is within specification, go to step 4.
- Disconnect starter harness connector. Disconnect PCM harness connector. PCM is mounted in front of center console, under radio. Check continuity between terminal "S" (Black/White wire) on starter harness connector and terminal No. 1H (Black/Blue wire) on PCM harness connector. (Scheme 44) Repair or replace as needed. If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Erase DTC. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If DTC is present, replace PCM. If DTC is not present, intermittent poor harness connection may have caused DTC to originally set.
- Inspect all applicable harness connectors. Repair as needed. Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Record PID data for PRCV. Compare reading with specification. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If data is not within specification, go to next step. If data is within specification, go to step 5.
- Disconnect PRC solenoid valve harness connector. Ensure ignition is on. Measure voltage between ground and terminal "A" (Red/Black wire) on PRC solenoid valve harness connector. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair Red/Black wire between solenoid and main relay.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM harness connector. PCM is mounted in front of center console, under radio. Check continuity of Blue/Yellow wire between terminal "B" on PRC solenoid valve harness connector and terminal No. 1B on PCM harness connector. (Scheme 44) If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair Blue/Yellow wire.
- Check continuity between PRC solenoid valve component terminals. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace PRC solenoid valve.
- Erase DTC. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If DTC is present, replace PCM. If DTC is not present, intermittent poor harness connection may have caused DTC to originally set.
- Ensure FREEZE FRAME PID DATA has been recorded. Inspect all applicable harness connectors. Repair as needed. Disconnect distributor connector. Measure voltage between ground and terminal "B" (Red/Black wire). (Scheme 49) If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair Red/Black wire.
- Turn ignition is off. Check continuity of Yellow/Blue wire between terminal "D" on distributor harness connector and terminal No. 4F on PCM connector. (Scheme 44)and (Scheme 49). If continuity does not exist, repair Yellow/Blue wire. If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Connect distributor connector. Turn ignition on. Access PCM harness connector. PCM is mounted in front of center console, under radio. Using voltmeter, backprobe applicable PCM harness connector. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 4F (Yellow/Blue wire). (Scheme 44)
- Voltage should be zero or about 5 volts with ignition on or about 2.5 volts with engine idling. If voltage is within specification, go to step 6. If voltage is not within specification, go to next step.
- Check CMP sensor. See BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES article. Replace as needed. If CMP sensor is okay, go to next step.
- Erase DTC. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If DTC is present, replace PCM. If DTC is not present, intermittent poor harness connection may have caused DTC to originally set.
Scheme 49
- Ensure FREEZE FRAME PID DATA has been recorded. Inspect all applicable harness connectors. Repair as needed and go to next step. If all connectors are okay, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Record PID data for EGRP V. Compare reading with specification. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If data is not within specification, go to next step. If data is within specification, go to step 7.
- Disconnect EGR valve position sensor harness connector. Measure voltage between ground and terminal "B" (Light/Green Red wire). (Scheme 43) If 5 volts is present, go to next step. If 5 volts is not present, check for open or short in Light Green/Red wire.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM harness connector. PCM is mounted in front of center console, under radio. Check continuity of Black/Yellow wire between terminal "A" on EGR valve position sensor harness connector and terminal No. 3AB on PCM harness connector. (Scheme 43)and (Scheme 44). If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair Black/Yellow wire.
- Check continuity of Red/Black wire between terminal "C" on EGR boost sensor harness connector and terminal No. 3R on PCM harness connector. (Scheme 43)and (Scheme 44). If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair Red/Black wire.
- Inspect EGR valve position sensor. See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as needed. If EGR valve position sensor is okay, go to next step.
- Erase DTC. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If DTC is present, replace PCM. If DTC is not present, intermittent poor harness connection may have caused DTC to originally set.
- Inspect all applicable harness connectors. Repair as needed. Turn ignition on. Access PCM harness connector. PCM is mounted in front of center console, under radio. Using voltmeter, backprobe applicable PCM harness connector. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 4R. (Scheme 44) If battery voltage is present, go to step 5. If battery voltage is not present, go to next step.
- Disconnect CDCV harness connector. Ensure ignition is on. Measure voltage between ground and terminal "A" (Black/White wire) on CDCV harness connector. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair Black/White wire between solenoid and main relay.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM harness connector. Check continuity of Black/Blue wire between terminal "B" on CDCV harness connector and terminal No. 4R on PCM harness connector. (Scheme 44) If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair Black/Blue wire.
- Check continuity between CDCV component terminals. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace CDCV.
- Erase DTC. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If DTC is present, replace PCM. If DTC is not present, intermittent poor harness connection may have caused DTC to originally set.
- Ensure FREEZE FRAME DATA has been recorded. Determine if any other engine performance related DTCs are present. Repair those DTCs first. If no other engine performance related DTCs are present, go to next step.
- Monitor PID data (BARO V, ECT V, FTP V, VS). See PID DATA INFORMATION. If any signals are not within specification, see applicable component test in appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Repair harness or replace malfunctioning component as needed. Go to step 17 . If all signals are within specification, go to next step.
- Continue monitoring PID data. Confirm RPM, LOAD, ECT and VSS FREEZE FRAME DATA. Operate vehicle for 1 minute and determine if any PID data items excessively change. BARO signal should change from atmospheric pressure to intake vacuum. If any signals suddenly change, check applicable component connections. Intermittent poor harness connection may have caused signal change. Repair harness or connector as needed. Go to step 17 . If all signals stay consistent and within specification, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, run IGNITION ON TEST in SIMULATION TEST. Turn Canister Drain Cut Valve (CDCV) from OFF to ON. CDCV and Tank Pressure Control Valve (TPCV) should be heard operating. If system does not operate correctly, go to step 8 . If system operates correctly, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, run IGNITION ON TEST in SIMULATION TEST. Detach vacuum hose on charcoal canister. Increase PRGV (purge solenoid valve) from 0 to 100 percent. Measure negative pressure (vacuum). Reading should change from atmospheric pressure to intake manifold negative pressure. If system operates correctly, go to step 9) . If system does not operate correctly, go to next step.
- Inspect all vacuum and vapor lines. Repair or replace as needed. Go to step 17 . If all lines are okay, go to next step.
- Inspect purge solenoid valve. See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as needed. Go to step 17 . If purge solenoid valve is okay, go to step 17 .
- Inspect Canister Drain Cut Valve (CDCV). See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as needed. Go to step 17 . If CDCV is okay, go to next step.
- Remove charcoal canister beside fuel tank. Inspect for damage or clogging. Replace as needed. Go to step 17 . If charcoal canister is okay, go to next step.
- Pinch off hose on fuel tank side of charcoal canister. Remove fuel filler cap. Monitor PID data (FTP, FTPV). FTP (fuel tank pressure) and FTPV (fuel tank pressure signal voltage) should be the same as atmospheric pressure. If system operates correctly, install filler cap. Go to step 17 . If system does not operate correctly, go to next step.
- Inspect Fuel Tank Pressure (FTP) sensor. See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as needed. Go to step 17 . If FTP sensor is okay, go to next step.
- Inspect Tank Pressure Control Valve (TPCV). See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as needed. Go to step 17 . If TPCV is okay, go to next step.
- Remove TPCV and install a "T" fitting. Attach vacuum pump to "T" fitting. Monitor PID data (FTP, FTPV). Apply vacuum to fitting. If FTP and FTPV values change to vacuum readings, go to step 17 . If FTP and FTPV values do not change to vacuum readings, go to next step.
- Inspect vent cut valve for leakage or clogging. See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace filler pipe assembly as needed. Go to step 17 . If vent cut valve is okay, go to next step.
- Inspect 2-way check valve for leakage or clogging. See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as needed. Go to step 17 . If 2-way check valve is okay, go to next step.
- Inspect EVAP air filter for clogging. See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as needed. Go to next step. If EVAP air filter is okay, go to next step.
- Erase DTCs. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Conduct drive cycle mode No. 4 under DRIVE CYCLE PROCEDURE. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Recheck for DTCs. Using scan tool, verify PENDING TROUBLE CODE DTC and DIAGNOSTIC MONITORING TEST RESULTS using scan tool. If any DTCs are present, go to applicable test and repair as needed. If no DTCs are present, testing is complete.
- Ensure FREEZE FRAME PID DATA has been recorded. Inspect all applicable harness connectors. Repair as needed and go to next step.
- Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Record PID data for FTL V. Compare reading with specification. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If data is not within specification, go to next step. If data is within specification, go to step 7.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect fuel pump connector. Check continuity of Green/Yellow wire between terminal "B" on fuel gauge sending unit harness connector and terminal No. 3K on PCM harness connector. (Scheme 43)and (Scheme 44). PCM is mounted in front of center console, under radio. If continuity does not exist, repair as needed. Go to next step. If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Inspect fuel gauge and fuel gauge sending unit. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. Repair or replace as needed. If both components are okay, go to next step.
- Check continuity of Gray wire between terminal "B" on fuel gauge sending unit harness connector and terminal No. 2N on instrument cluster harness connector. If continuity does not exist, repair as needed. Go to next step. If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Erase DTC. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If DTC is present, replace PCM. If DTC is not present, intermittent poor harness connection may have caused DTC to originally set.
- Inspect all applicable harness connectors. Repair as needed. Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Record PID data for EGRB V. Compare reading with specification. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If data is not within specification, go to next step. If data is within specification, go to step 5.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect EGR boost sensor solenoid valve connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and terminal "A" (Red/Black wire) on harness connector. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery is not present, check for open or short of Red/Black wire between EGR boost sensor solenoid valve connector and main relay. Repair as needed and go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM harness connector. PCM is mounted in front of center console, under radio. Check continuity of White/Green wire between terminal "B" on EGR boost sensor solenoid valve harness connector and terminal No. 4P on PCM harness connector. (Scheme 44) Repair as needed. If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Check continuity between EGR boost sensor solenoid valve component terminals. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace EGR boost sensor solenoid valve.
- Erase DTC. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If DTC is present, replace PCM. If DTC is not present, intermittent poor harness connection may have caused DTC to originally set.
- Inspect all applicable harness connectors. Repair as needed. Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Record PID data for VRISV1. Compare reading with specification. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If data is not within specification, go to next step. If data is within specification, go to step 5.
- Disconnect VRIS No. 1 solenoid connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and terminal "A" (Red/Black wire) on harness connector. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery is not present, check for open or short circuit between VRIS No. 1 solenoid connector and main relay. Repair as needed and go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM harness connector. PCM is mounted in front of center console, under radio. Check continuity of Light Green wire between terminal "B" on VRIS No. 1 solenoid harness connector and terminal No. 1AA on PCM harness connector. (Scheme 44) If continuity does not exist, repair as needed. Go to next step. If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Check continuity between VRIS No. 1 solenoid component terminals. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace VRIS No. 1 solenoid.
- Erase DTC. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If DTC is present, replace PCM. If DTC is not present, intermittent poor harness connection may have caused DTC to originally set.
- Inspect all applicable harness connectors. Repair as needed. Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Record PID data for VRISV2. Compare reading with specification. See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article. If data is not within specification, go to next step. If data is within specification, go to step 5.
- Disconnect VRIS No. 2 solenoid connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and terminal "A" (Red/Black wire) on harness connector. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery is not present, check for open or short of Red/Black wire between VRIS No. 2 solenoid connector and main relay. Repair as needed and go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM harness connector. PCM is mounted in front of center console, under radio. Check continuity of Brown/Yellow wire between terminal "B" on VRIS No. 2 solenoid harness connector and terminal No. 1AE on PCM harness connector. (Scheme 44) If continuity does not exist, repair as needed. Go to next step. If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Check continuity between VRIS No. 2 solenoid component terminals. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace VRIS No. 2 solenoid.
- Erase DTC. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If DTC is present, replace PCM. If DTC is not present, intermittent poor harness connection may have caused DTC to originally set.
- Inspect all applicable harness connectors. Repair as needed. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect PCM harness connector. PCM is mounted in front of center console, under radio. Disconnect ABS/TCS control module harness connector. ABS/TCS control module is mounted to upper left kick panel, behind instrument panel, next to TCM.
- Check continuity of Pink/Green wire between terminal No. 1Q on PCM harness connector and terminal No. 2S on ABS/TCS control module harness connector. (Scheme 44) If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair Pink/Green wire.
- Inspect ABS/TCS control module. See appropriate ANTI-LOCK article in BRAKES. Replace as needed. If ABS/TCS control module is okay, go to next step.
- Erase DTCs. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If DTC resets, replace PCM. If DTC is not present, intermittent poor harness connection may have caused DTC to originally set.
- Ensure FREEZE FRAME PID DATA has been recorded. Ensure battery is fully charged and in acceptable condition. Correct as needed. Inspect MAIN fuse. Replace as needed. If main fuse is okay, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Access PCM harness connector. PCM is mounted in front of center console, under radio. Using voltmeter, backprobe applicable PCM harness connector. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 4B (Blue/Red wire). (Scheme 44)
- Battery voltage should be present. If voltage is within specification, go to next step. If voltage is not within specification, repair open or short of circuit between PCM and battery.
- Erase DTC. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If DTC is present, replace PCM. If DTC is not present, intermittent poor harness connection may have caused DTC to originally set.
- Ensure FREEZE FRAME PID DATA has been recorded. Access PCM harness connector. PCM is mounted in front of center console, under radio. Inspect PCM harness connections. Repair as needed. Turn ignition on. Using voltmeter, backprobe applicable PCM harness connector. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 1F (Black/Red wire). (Scheme 44)
- Battery voltage should be present with shifter in any position other than Park or Neutral. If voltage is within specification, go to step 5. If voltage is not within specification, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM harness connectors. Using ohmmeter, check continuity of Black/Red wire between terminal "H" on transmission range switch harness connector and terminal No. 1F on PCM harness connector. (Scheme 44) If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair Black/Red wire.
- Inspect transmission range switch. See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as needed. If transmission range switch is okay, go to next step.
- Erase DTC. See CLEARING CODES in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If DTC is present, replace PCM. If DTC is not present, intermittent poor harness connection may have caused DTC to originally set.
