Halogen headlight bulb removal note

  1. Release the bulb pressing wire to remove the Halogen headlight bulb.

  1. Adjust the tire air pressure to the specification.
  2. Position the unloaded vehicle on a flat, level surface.
  3. Seat one person in the driver's seat.
  4. Position the vehicle straight ahead and perpendicular to a wall.
  5. Set the headlights 3 m {10 ft} from the white screen.
  6. While adjusting one headlight, mask the other.
  7. Start the engine to charge the battery.
  8. Turn on the lower-beam headlight.
  9. Adjust the headlights as shown in the figure.

DISCHARGE HEADLIGHT CONTROL MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

CAUTIONIncorrect servicing of the discharge headlight control module could result in electrical shock. Before servicing the discharge headlight control module, always refer to the " DISCHARGE HEADLIGHT SERVICE WARNINGS ." (See DISCHARGE HEADLIGHT SERVICE WARNINGS ).

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  3. Remove the front combination light. (See «FRONT COMBINATION LIGHT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-288774-S21144454912008062500000) ).
  4. Remove in the order indicated in the table.
  5. Install in the reverse order of removal.

Scheme 56: Discharge Headlight Inoperative

Inspection procedure

1INSPECT POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT OF DISCHARGE HEADLIGHT CONTROL MODULE Disconnect the discharge headlight control module connector. Turn the headlight switch to the HEADLIGHT (LO) position. Measure the voltage at discharge headlight control module terminal D (wiring harness-side). Is the voltage approx. 12 V ?YesGo to Step 6

2INSPECT FUSE Turn the headlight switch to the OFF position. Remove the HEAD LR 15 A fuse (RH) or HEAD LL 15 A fuse (LH). Inspect the fuses. Are the fuses normal?YesGo to the next step
NoReplace the fuse.
3INSPECT HEADLIGHT LOW RELAY Inspect the headlight relay. See RELAY INSPECTION. Is the headlight relay normal?YesGo to the next step.
NoReplace the headlight relay. (See RELAY INSPECTION. )
4INSPECT LIGHT SWITCH Inspect the light switch. (See LIGHT SWITCH INSPECTION ). Is the light switch normal?YesGo to the next step.

5INSPECT WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN BATTERY AND DISCHARGE HEADLIGHT CONTROL MODULE Disconnect the negative battery cable. Inspect for continuity between the following terminals: Battery (positive terminal) and headlight relay terminal E. HEAD LR 15 A fuse (RH) and discharge headlight control module terminal D HEAD LL 15 A fuse (LH) discharge headlight control module terminal D Are the wiring harnesses normal?YesGo to the next step.
NoReplace the related wiring harness.
6INSPECT WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN DISCHARGE HEADLIGHT CONTROL MODULE AND GROUND Inspect the wiring harness between discharge headlight control module terminal E and ground for the following: Short to power supply Open circuit Is the wiring harness normal?YesGo to the next step.
NoReplace the related wiring harness.
7VERIFY WHETHER MALFUNCTION IS IN DISCHARGE HEADLIGHT BULB OR DISCHARGE HEADLIGHT CONTROL MODULE Install the discharge headlight low bulb (previously verified as illuminating normally). (See HEADLIGHT BULB REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ). Connect the discharge headlight control module connector. Turn the headlight switch to the HEADLIGHT (LO) position. Does the headlight (low-beam) illuminate?YesSystem inspection completed.
NoReplace the discharge headlight control module. (See DISCHARGE HEADLIGHT CONTROL MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  3. Remove in the order indicated in the table.
  4. Install in the reverse order of removal.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove in the order indicated in the table.
  3. Install in the reverse order of removal.

Scheme 59: FRONT SIDE MARKER LIGHT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Partially peel off the mud guard.
  3. Remove in the order indicated in the table.
  4. Install in the reverse order of removal.

Front Side Marker Light Removal Note

  1. Insert your hand into where the mud guard is bent back and push the tab to remove the front side marker light.
  2. Pull the front side marker light toward you to remove it.

Scheme 60: FRONT FOG LIGHT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the front bumper (RH). (See «FRONT BUMPER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.»(ref-288739-S41552866532008062500000) )
  3. Remove the fasteners, then slightly bend back the mudguard (LH).
  4. Remove in the order indicated in the table.
  5. Install in the reverse order of removal.
  6. Adjust the front fog light aiming. (See «FRONT FOG LIGHT ADJUSTMENT»(ref-288774-S14254489782008062500000) ).

Scheme 61: FRONT FOG LIGHT BULB REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the fasteners, then slightly bend back the mudguard
  3. Remove in the order indicated in the table. CAUTION: A halogen bulb generates extremely high heat when it is used. If the surface of the bulb is soiled, excessive heat will build up and the light's life will be shortened. When replacing the bulb, hold the metal flange, not the glass.
  4. Install in the reverse order of removal.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  3. Remove in the order indicated in the table.
  4. Install in the reverse order of removal.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Turn over the service hole cover.

  1. Tie a string to the end of the high-mount brake light connector beforehand so that the connector can be passed easily through the rear spoiler during installation.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  3. Remove in the order indicated in the table.
  4. Install in the reverse order of removal.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  3. Remove in the order indicated in the table.
  4. Install in the reverse order of removal.

  1. Disconnect the back-up light switch connector.
  2. Inspect for continuity between the back-up light switch terminals using an ohmmeter. If not as specified, replace the back-up light switch.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable
  2. Remove the driver-side air bag module. (See «DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.»(ref-288735-S37348545342008062500000) )
  3. Remove the steering wheel. (See «STEERING WHEEL AND COLUMN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.»(ref-288741-S07869274042008062500000) )
  4. Remove the column cover. (See «COLUMN COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.»(ref-288737-S02237188592008062500000) ) CAUTION: The clock spring is generally not to be removed from the combination switch as may result in a malfunction of the steering angle sensor. However, remove it only when replacing the clock spring as a single unit by referring to CLOCK SPRING REMOVAL/INSTALLATION. (See «CLOCK SPRING REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.»(ref-288735-S36772563482008062500000) )
  5. Remove in the order indicated in the table.
  6. Install in the reverse order of removal.

Headlight Leveling Switch Removal Note

  1. Insert your hand from the lower side of the dashboard and squeeze the tabs of the panel light control switch.
  2. Pull the panel light control switch toward you to remove it.

  1. Verify that continuity between the headlight leveling switch terminals is as indicated in the table. If not as indicated in the table, replace the headlight leveling switch.

Panel Light Control Switch Removal Note

  1. Insert your hand from the lower side of the dashboard and squeeze the tabs of the panel light control switch.
  2. Pull the panel light control switch toward you to remove it.
