Water Sprinkling Method
| CAUTION | Indirectly change the temperature and humidity by spraying water onto the front of the radiator. If a vehicle is subject to water leakage, the leakage may damage the control module. When testing a vehicle with a water leakage problem, special caution must be used. |
If malfunction occurs only during high humidity or rainy/snowy weather, perform the following steps.
Scheme 16
- Connect M-MDS to the DLC-2 if inspecting sensors or switches.
- Switch the ignition to ON (engine off). NOTE: If the engine starts and runs, perform the following steps during idle.
- Access the PIDs for sensor or switch if inspecting sensors or switches.
- If you are inspecting the switch, turn it on manually.
- Spray water onto the vehicle or run it through a car wash. If the PID value is unstable or malfunction occurs, repair or replace part. see scheme 9: Spraying Water Onto Vehicle And Run Through Car Wash
When idling cannot be continued
- Remove the OCV and verify that the spool valve is at maximum retard position. (See «OIL CONTROL VALVE (OCV) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZR 1.5]»(ref-517441-S25619155382012121200000) .)
- If the spool valve is stuck in advance direction, replace the OCV. (See «OIL CONTROL VALVE (OCV) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZR 1.5]»(ref-517441-S25619155382012121200000) .)
- Connect the OCV connector.
- Switch the ignition to ON.
- Verify that the spool valve is at maximum retard position. If the spool valve is stuck in the advance direction, inspect for the following: Short circuit in wiring harnesses or connectors between OCV terminal B and PCM terminal 2W
- Inspect the variable valve timing actuator. (See «VARIABLE VALVE TIMING ACTUATOR INSPECTION [MZR 1.5]»(ref-517441-S31102694412012121200000) .)
When idling can be continued
- Warm-up the engine.
- Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.
- Idle the engine.
- Access the VT Duty1 wt PID. (See «ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC TEST [MZR 1.5]»(ref-517437-S32972094912012121200000) .)
- Set the OCV duty valve to 100% and verify that the engine idles roughly or stalls. If as specified, inspect the timing belt component (valve timing deviation). If not as specified, go to the next step.
- Remove the OCV and connect the OCV connector to the OCV. (See «OIL CONTROL VALVE (OCV) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZR 1.5]»(ref-517441-S25619155382012121200000) .)
- Switch the ignition to ON.
- Access the VT Duty1 wt PID. (See «ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC TEST [MZR 1.5]»(ref-517437-S32972094912012121200000) .)
- Set the OCV duty value to 100% and verify that the spool valve operates in the advance direction.
- If not as specified, inspect the following: OCV operation (See «OIL CONTROL VALVE (OCV) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZR 1.5]»(ref-517441-S25619155382012121200000) .) Wiring harness and connectors between OCV terminal A and PCM terminal 2I for open or short circuit Wiring harness and connectors between OCV terminal B and PCM terminal 2W for open or short circuit
- Inspect the following hydraulic passages for restriction and/or leakage: Oil pressure switch-OCV OCV-camshaft Camshaft internal passage
- If they are normal, replace the intake camshaft pulley (with a built-in variable valve timing actuator). (See «INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZR 1.5]»(ref-517447-S10648211572012121200000) .)
