Locking

When you push the LOCK button on the key briefly, all the doors can be locked from the outside of the vehicle. At this time, 1 beep sounds and the turn signal lights flash once (the turn signal lights can be set not to flash and the volume of beep sound can be changed). However, when you push the LOCK button with any door not closed securely, the buzzer sounds for 10 seconds (the buzzer can be set not to sound with any door not closed securely). To stop the buzzer, close all the doors securely or push the UNLOCK button. If the key is in the ignition switch, locking cannot be done. Do not push the LOCK button any longer than 2-3 seconds. Pushing the button longer activates the alarm.

Unlocking

When you push the UNLOCK button, the driver's door is unlocked. Pushing that button once again within 3 seconds from the first push, all other doors are also unlocked (the 2-step unlocking function can be changed). At this time, 2 beeps sound and the turn signal lights flash twice. Together with the activation of unlocking, the interior light comes on for 15 seconds if the interior light switch is in DOOR position (the duration of lighting can be changed). However, this function does not work when the ignition key is in the ACC or ON position. See appropriate INTERIOR/ILLUMINATION LIGHTS article for more information on the illuminated entry system.

You have 30 seconds to open a door after using the wireless remote unlock feature (the time before the automatic relocking can be changed). If a door is not opened by then, all the doors will be automatically locked again. Even if the LOCK or UNLOCK button is kept pressed in, the locking or unlocking operation is not repeated. Release the button and then push again.

When you push any button on the key, the vehicle sounds 1 beep when the doors are locked by remote control and sounds 2 beeps when the doors are unlocked. You can adjust the beep loudness with the knob under the instrument panel. Turning the knob clockwise increases the volume and turning it counterclockwise until it stops and turns the buzzer off.

Unlocking Trunk Lid

When you keep the button pushed for about 1 second, you can unlock the trunk lid (the operation method can be changed). One beep sounds.

SOUNDING ALARM

When you push the PANIC button for about 2-3 seconds, an alarm sounds to deter any person trying to break into or damage your vehicle. If you want to stop the alarm, push any button. This function does not work when the ignition key is in the ON position.

General

The wireless door control receiver performs the code identification process and the body ECU effects the door lock control. (Scheme 137) Serial data link is provided for communication between the wireless door control receiver and the body ECU.

A key-integrated, 3-button type transmitter and a rolling code system, in which the signal configuration changes each time when a signal is transmitted by the transmitter, has been adopted.

Visual Confirmation Of Lock Or Unlock

If all doors indicated that they are locked after the lock command, the turn signal light will flash once. If any door indicates that it is open after the unlock command, the turn signal light will flash twice.

Buzzer Sound Function

If all doors indicate that they are locked after the lock command, the keyless buzzer goes on once. If any door indicates that it is open after the unlock command, the keyless buzzer goes on twice.

Illuminated Entry Function

When the body ECU detects the unlock state after the unlock operation has been made, it turns on the lights, such as the ignition key cylinder light and interior light for approximately 15 seconds. If all the doors are locked during this operation, lighting is cancelled and the lights immediately fade out.

Wireless Control Stop Function

If a door is open (door courtesy switch on), a signal is input from the door courtesy switch to the body ECU stopping wireless door lock or unlock. If the ignition key is in the ignition key cylinder (unlock warning switch on), the unlock warning switch inputs a signal to the body ECU stopping wireless door lock or unlock.

Repeat Function

If the door lock or unlock condition does not change after wireless door lock or unlock operation, 2 seconds later, the body ECU sends current again to the door lock motor.

WIRELESS REMOTE CONTROL

When you operate any button on the key, push it slowly and surely. (Scheme 138) At this time, the indicator light on the key grip flashes once.

The operational range of the wireless remote control is approximately 3 ft. (1 meter). The effective range may vary with different conditions. To activate the wireless remote control without fail, do it approximately 3 ft. (1 meter) from your Lexus.

In the following cases, the battery in the key may be discharged. If this is a case, replace it using a special screwdriver.

  1. The remote control does not work.
  2. The operational range of wireless remote control becomes extremely short.
  3. The indicator light on the key is dimmed or does not come on.

You can use up to 4 wireless remote control keys for the same vehicle. The wireless remote control key is an electronic component. Observe the following instructions in order not to cause damage to the key.

  1. Do not leave the wireless remote control key on places where the temperature becomes high such as on the dashboard.
  2. Do not disassemble it.
  3. Avoid knocking it hard against other objects or dropping it.
  4. Avoid putting water in it.

REGISTRATION MODES

  1. Add Mode - Used to retain already registered codes while registering new recognition codes. This mode is used when adding a transmitter. If the number of registered codes exceeds 4, previously registered codes will be correspondingly erased in order, starting from the first registered code.
  2. Rewrite Mode - Used to erase all the previously registered codes and register only new recognition codes. This mode is used when exchanging the transmitter or the door control receiver with new one.
  3. Prohibition Mode - Used to erase all the registered codes and cancels the wireless door lock function. Use this mode when the transmitter is lost.
  4. Confirmation Mode - Confirms how many recognition codes have already been registered before an additional registration of a recognition code.

RECOGNITION CODE REGISTRATION

  1. The vehicle should be in the following conditions: The key is not inserted in the ignition key cylinder. The driver's door is OPENED (the other doors are closed). The driver's door is UNLOCKED.
  2. Perform the following after the above operations: Insert and remove the key from the ignition key cylinder twice within 5 seconds. After the above operation, close and open the driver door twice within 40 seconds. Then insert the key into the ignition key cylinder and remove it. After the above operations, close and open the driver door twice within 40 seconds. Then insert the key into the ignition key cylinder and close the door. Turn the ignition switch from LOCK to ON and back to LOCK at approximately 1 second interval 1-5 times to select the mode. (Scheme 139) Then remove the key from the ignition key cylinder. Multiplex communication system (MPX) body ECU automatically performs the LOCK-UNLOCK operation within 3 seconds to inform the operator of a selected mode. (Scheme 140)
  3. Register transmitter: Within 40 seconds after the add mode or the rewrite mode has been selected, press the LOCK and UNLOCK switches on the transmitter switch simultaneously for 1.0-1.5 seconds. Within 3 seconds after the above operation, press either one of the switches for more than 1 second. Within 3 seconds after the transmitter switch has been turned OFF, the LOCK-UNLOCK operation will be automatically performed once if the registration of the recognition code of the transmitter is completely correctly. (Scheme 141) In case the LOCK-UNLOCK operation is performed twice, the registration of recognition code has failed. Perform the registration procedure from the beginning once again. When continuing the registration, register the transmitter within 40 seconds after the previous registration.
  4. If even one of the following conditions is satisfied, registration of recognition codes is completed: Forty seconds have elapsed since the door control relay responds. The driver's door is opened. The key plate is inserted in the ignition key cylinder. Four types of recognition codes are registered at one time.

PRE-CHECK

  1. Using the hand-held tester: Hook up the hand-held tester to the DLC3. Monitor the ECU data by following the prompts on the tester screen.
  2. DTC Clear: The DTCs and freeze framed data will be erased by either action. Operate the OBD II scan tool (complying with SAE J1978) or hand-held tester erase the codes. See the OBD II scan tool's instruction book for operating instructions.
  3. Data List: Connect the OBD II scan tool or hand-held tester to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch ON. According to the display on tester, read the DATA LIST.
