INSPECTION PROCEDURE

HINT

  1. DTC P148F may be stored if the engine has continuously run with insufficient engine coolant. If the engine coolant is sufficient and DTC P148F recur when the vehicle is brought to the workshop, confirm whether engine coolant was added after the vehicle had been driven with insufficient engine coolant.
  2. Read freeze frame data using the Techstream. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can be helpful in determining whether the vehicle was running or stopped, whether the engine was warmed up or not, whether the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, as well as other data recorded at the time of a malfunction.

Note. Inspect the fuses for circuits related to this system before performing the following inspection procedure.

HINT

  1. Read freeze frame data using the Techstream. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
  2. The throttle actuator current (Throttle Motor Current) and the throttle actuator duty ratio (Throttle Motor Duty (Open) / Throttle Motor Duty (Close)) can be read using the Techstream. However, the ECM shuts off the throttle actuator current when the electronic throttle control system malfunctions.

  2. Refer to "Data List / Active Test" [Throttle Position Command, Throttle Position No. 1, Throttle Motor Current, Throttle Motor Duty (Open), Throttle Motor Duty (Close)]. Refer to «DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST»(ref-568607-S17841424132013072300000) .

Note. Inspect the fuses for circuits related to this system before performing the following inspection procedure.

HINT

  1. Although the DTC titles say oxygen sensor, these DTCs relate to the air fuel ratio sensor.
  2. Sensor 1 refers to the sensor mounted in front of the three-way catalytic converter and located near the engine assembly.
  4. A low air fuel ratio sensor voltage could be caused by a rich air fuel mixture. Check for conditions that would cause the engine to run rich.
  5. A high air fuel ratio sensor voltage could be caused by a lean air fuel mixture. Check for conditions that would cause the engine to run lean.
  6. Sensor 1 refers to the sensor closest to the engine assembly.
  7. Sensor 2 refers to the sensor farthest away from the engine assembly.

HINT

  1. Read freeze frame data using the Techstream. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
  2. Sensor 1 refers to the sensor closest to the engine assembly.
  3. Sensor 2 refers to the sensor farthest away from the engine assembly.

Note. Inspect the fuses for circuits related to this system before performing the following inspection procedure.

HINT

  1. Repeating this inspection for symptom confirmation may cause the SOC to drop, preventing the system from entering the READY-on state. In this case, use the THS charger to charge the HV battery.
  2. Cranking the engine once causes the SOC to drop approximately 1%.
  3. Charging the HV battery once (10 minutes) using the THS charger restores the SOC approximately 2%.
  4. Charging the HV battery using the THS charger takes approximately 10 minutes when the battery temperature is 25°C (77°F) or approximately 30 minutes when the battery temperature is 0°C (32°F).
  5. The THS charger is a supplemental charging device that charges the HV battery enough to enable the engine to start (the vehicle can enter the READY-on state).
  6. Read freeze frame data using the Techstream. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can be helpful in determining whether the vehicle was running or stopped, whether the engine was warmed up or not, whether the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, as well as other data recorded at the time of a malfunction.

Refer to the CAN Communication System. Refer to HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING .

HINT

  1. CONFIRM DTC Turn the power switch off and wait for 10 seconds. Turn the power switch on (IG). Turn the power switch off and wait for 10 seconds. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the power switch on (IG) and turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes. Confirm DTCs and freeze frame data. If any EVAP system DTCs are stored, the malfunctioning area can be determined using the table below. NOTE: If the reference pressure difference between the first and second checks is more than the specification, all the DTCs relating to the reference pressure (P043E, P043F, P2401, P2402 and P2419) will all be stored. NEXT: Go to next step
  2. PERFORM EVAPORATIVE SYSTEM CHECK (AUTOMATIC MODE) NOTE: The Evaporative System Check (Automatic Mode) consists of 6 steps performed automatically by the Techstream. It takes a maximum of approximately 24 minutes. Do not perform the Evaporative System Check when the fuel tank is higher than 90% full because the cut-off valve may be closed, making the fuel tank leak check unavailable. Do not run the engine during this operation. When the temperature of the fuel is 35°C (95°F) or higher, a large amount of vapor forms and any check results become inaccurate. When performing the Evaporative System Check, keep the temperature below 35°C (95°F). Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the power switch on (IG). Turn the Techstream on. Clear the DTCs. Refer to «DTC CHECK / CLEAR»(ref-568607-S14015113742013072300000) . Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / Evaporative System Check / Automatic Mode. After the Evaporative System Check is completed, check for pending DTCs by entering the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes / Pending. HINT: If no pending DTCs are displayed, perform the Confirmation Driving Pattern. After this confirmation, check for pending DTCs. If no DTCs are displayed, the EVAP system is normal. NEXT: Go to next step
