Electronic Engine Controls (4.4L): Removal & Installation Land Rover Range Rover III facelift

INSTALLATION

  1. Install the EOP sensor. Apply sealant to the sensor thread. Tighten the EOP sensor to 13 Nm (10 lb.ft). Connect and secure the electrical connector.
  2. Install the radiator access panel. Refer to «Radiator Splash Shield»(ref-522604-S29075290552013011500000) .
  3. Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to «Specifications»(ref-522601-S06524472732013011500000) .
  4. Check and top-up the engine oil.

REMOVAL

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to «Specifications»(ref-522601-S06524472732013011500000) .
  2. Raise and support the vehicle.
  3. Remove the radiator access panel. Refer to «Radiator Splash Shield»(ref-522604-S29075290552013011500000) .
  4. Remove the engine oil temperature sensor. Disconnect the electrical connector. Position a container to collect the fluid.
  1. Install the oil temperature sensor. Tighten the oil temperature sensor to 10 Nm (7 lb.ft). Connect and secure the electrical connector.
  2. Install the radiator access panel. Refer to «Radiator Splash Shield»(ref-522604-S29075290552013011500000) .
  3. Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to «Specifications»(ref-522601-S06524472732013011500000) .
  4. Check and top-up the engine oil.

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to «Specifications»(ref-522601-S06524472732013011500000) .
  2. Remove the intake manifold assembly. Refer to «Intake Manifold»(ref-522644-S20459586812013011500000) .
  3. Remove the ECT sensor. Position an absorbent cloth to collect fluid spillage. Disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the sensor and discard the seal.
  1. Install the ECT sensor. Clean the components. Install a new O-ring seal. Secure with the clip. Connect the ECT sensor electrical connector.
  2. Install the intake manifold assembly. Refer to «Intake Manifold»(ref-522644-S20459586812013011500000) .
  3. Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to «Specifications»(ref-522601-S06524472732013011500000) .
  4. Top-up the coolant.

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to «Specifications»(ref-522601-S06524472732013011500000) .
  2. Raise and support the vehicle.
  3. Remove the engine undershield. Refer to «Engine Undershield»(ref-522604-S24326226122013011500000) .
  4. Remove the CKP sensor. Disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the Torx screw.
  1. Install the CKP sensor. Tighten the Torx screw to 8 Nm (6 lb.ft). Connect the CKP sensor electrical connector.
  2. Install the engine undershield. Refer to «Engine Undershield»(ref-522604-S24326226122013011500000) .
  3. Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to «Specifications»(ref-522601-S06524472732013011500000) .

Note. The TP sensor is part of the throttle body and cannot be serviced separately.

  1. Remove the throttle body. Refer to «Throttle Body Gasket»(ref-522653-S03702769652013011500000) .
  1. Install the throttle body. Refer to «Throttle Body Gasket»(ref-522653-S03702769652013011500000) .

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to «Specifications»(ref-522601-S06524472732013011500000) .
  2. Remove the engine cover. Refer to «Engine Cover - 4.4L»(ref-522605-S29289372042013011500000) .
  3. Release the engine wiring harness clips. Remove the 2 bolts. Position the wiring harness aside for access.
  4. Disconnect the camshaft position (CMP) sensor electrical connector. Slide the red connector latch to one side. Depress the concealed clip.
  5. Remove the CMP sensor. Remove the bolt. Discard the O-ring seal.
  1. Install the CMP sensor. Clean the component mating faces. Install a new O-ring seal. Tighten the bolt to 7 Nm (5 lb.ft)
  2. Connect the CMP sensor electrical connector. Secure the red latch.
  3. Secure the engine wiring harness clips. Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (7 lb.ft).
  4. Install the engine cover. Refer to «Engine Cover - 4.4L»(ref-522605-S29289372042013011500000) .
  5. Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to «Specifications»(ref-522601-S06524472732013011500000) .

Note. The knock sensors are supplied as a pair.

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to «Specifications»(ref-522601-S06524472732013011500000) .
  2. Remove the intake manifold assembly. Refer to «Intake Manifold»(ref-522644-S20459586812013011500000) .
  3. Remove the knock sensors (KS). Disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the 2 bolts.
  1. Install the KS. Clean the component mating faces. Tighten the bolts to 20 Nm (15 lb.ft). Connect the electrical connector.
  2. Install the intake manifold assembly. Refer to «Intake Manifold»(ref-522644-S20459586812013011500000) .
  3. Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to «Specifications»(ref-522601-S06524472732013011500000) .
  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Tighten Torx screws to 2 Nm (1.5 lb.ft).
  2. If required, carry out a short drive cycle. For additional information, refer to: «Powertrain Control Module (Pcm) Short Drive Cycle Self-Test»(ref-522641-S19962442492013020100000)
  3. Using the approved diagnostic equipment, clear the powertrain control module (PCM) adaptions.
  1. Using the special tool, install the catalyst monitor sensor. Clean the components. Apply an anti-seize compound to the thread of the sensor. Tighten the catalyst monitor sensor to 45 Nm (33 lb.ft). Connect the electrical connector. Attach the wiring harness.
  2. Install the heat shield. Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (7 lb.ft).
  3. Position the RH catalytic converter to the exhaust manifold. Clean the components. Tighten the new bolts to 22 Nm (16 lb.ft).
  4. Position the LH catalytic converter to the exhaust manifold. Clean the components. Tighten the new bolts to 22 Nm (16 lb.ft).
  5. If required, carry out a long drive cycle. For additional information, refer to: «Powertrain Control Module (Pcm) Long Drive Cycle Self-Test»(ref-522641-S16488095642013020100000)

Note. Removal of the RH variable camshaft control solenoid is similar to this procedure.

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to «Specifications»(ref-522601-S06524472732013011500000) .
  2. Remove the valve cover. Refer to «Valve Cover LH»(ref-522644-S24348226442013011500000) .
  3. Remove the variable camshaft timing (VCT) oil control solenoid. Remove the bolt.
  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Clean the component mating faces. Tighten the bolt to 10 Nm (7 lb.ft).

  1. Secure the hood in the service position. Release the support struts.
  2. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to «Specifications»(ref-522601-S06524472732013011500000) .
  3. Remove the engine cover. Refer to «Engine Cover - 4.4L»(ref-522605-S29289372042013011500000) .
  4. Remove the fuel temperature sensor. Disconnect the electrical connector. Position an absorbent cloth to collect fluid spillage.
  1. Install the fuel temperature sensor. Clean the component mating faces. Tighten the sensor to 7 Nm (5 lb.ft).
  2. Connect the fuel temperature sensor electrical connector.
  3. Install the engine cover. Refer to «Engine Cover - 4.4L»(ref-522605-S29289372042013011500000) .
  4. Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to «Specifications»(ref-522601-S06524472732013011500000) .
  5. Close the hood.

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to «Specifications»(ref-522601-S06524472732013011500000) .
  2. Remove the engine cover. Refer to «Engine Cover - 4.4L»(ref-522605-S29289372042013011500000) .
  3. Remove the plenum chamber. Refer to «Plenum Chamber»(ref-522610-S02220757382013011500000) .
  4. Remove the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor. Disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the 2 Torx screws.
  1. Install the MAP sensor. Clean the component mating faces. Tighten the Torx screws.
  2. Install the plenum chamber. Refer to «Plenum Chamber»(ref-522610) .
  3. Install the engine cover. Refer to «Engine Cover - 4.4L»(ref-522605-S29289372042013011500000) .
  4. Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to «Specifications»(ref-522601) .
  5. If required, carry out a short drive cycle. For additional information, refer to: «Powertrain Control Module (Pcm) Short Drive Cycle Self-Test»(ref-522641-S19962442492013020100000)
