- Drain the transmission fluid. WARNING: TRANSMISSION FLUID MAY CAUSE SEVERE BURNS, ENSURE THAT ALL SAFETY PROCEDURES ARE OBSERVED AND THAT THE RECEPTACLE FOR WASTE HAS SUFFICIENT CAPACITY. Carefully remove the drain plug and discard the sealing washer. see scheme 6
- Remove the fluid pan. Refer to «TRANSMISSION FLUID PAN GASKET»(ref-171810-S40302099112005021400000).
- Remove the fluid filter. Pull the filter squarely to disengage the pick-up "O" ring and location tang - there is NO mechanical retention.
- Remove the selector detent leaf spring. Remove the screw.
- Remove the dowel - leaf spring to valve body.
- Remove the valve body assembly. Remove the nine bolts which retain the valve body to the transmission case.
Installation
- Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure, noting the following steps.
- Clean all mating faces and relevant parts.
- Tighten the nine bolts securing the valve body, to the specified torque figure. (Scheme 16)
- Refit the dowel (leaf spring to valve body) and the leaf spring. Fit and tighten the securing bolt to the specified torque figure. (Scheme 15)and (Scheme 14).
- Tighten the center retaining bolt of the electrical connector to the specified torque figure. (Scheme 12)
- Refill transmission. Refer to «TRANSMISSION FLUID FILLING»(ref-171810-S18870355362005021400000).
- Check for leaks and remove spilled fluid.
- Remove battery cover and disconnect ground cable from battery terminal. Refer to «BATTERY DISCONNECTION PROCEDURE»(ref-171253-S19302448882005020100000).
- Raise the vehicle for access.
(Scheme 13)
- Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
- Renew the "O" ring.
- Refill transmission. Refer to «TRANSMISSION FLUID FILLING»(ref-171810-S18870355362005021400000) .
- Check for leaks and remove spilled fluid.
Note. This procedure will not remove residual fluid from the torque converter.

- Remove battery cover and disconnect ground cable from battery terminal. Refer to «BATTERY DISCONNECTION PROCEDURE»(ref-171253-S19302448882005020100000).
- Raise the vehicle for access.
NOTE: The harness heatshield upper edge is retained by a clip. Remove the six bolts and clamps which secure the fluid pan to the transmission.
- Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Tighten the fluid pan retaining bolts to the specified torque figure. (Scheme 17)
- Using a new gasket, install the fluid pan and tighten the fixings to the specified torque figure. see scheme 6

- Disconnect the battery ground cable.
- Open the engine compartment and fit paint protection sheets.
- Raise the vehicle for access.
- Drain the transmission fluid. WARNING: TRANSMISSION FLUID MAY CAUSE SEVERE BURNS, ENSURE THAT ALL SAFETY PROCEDURES ARE OBSERVED. Carefully remove the drain plug and drain the transmission fluid. see scheme 6
- Remove the harness heatshield lower fixing. Remove the screw heatshield/fluid pan clamp. (Scheme 9)
- Remove the harness heatshield. Pull the heatshield from under the clip. (Scheme 10)
- Disconnect the transmission link harness connector. Release the locking lever. (Scheme 11)
- Release the (transmission case mounted) female connector. Remove the (center) retaining bolt.
- Remove the guide bushing from the transmission casing. Very carefully, pry the guide bushing from the transmission casing using a screwdriver against the cast lug on the casing.
- Remove and discard the sealing rings. Note the position and size of each ring.
- Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure noting the following
- Clean all mating faces and relevant parts.
- Lubricate the harness connector "O" rings with transmission fluid prior to fitting.
