FLUID MAINTENANCE

It is not necessary to change the transmission fluid in normal service; routine level checking is not required. The sealed dipstick tube is fitted for service requirements only, with a dipstick being available as a special tool and NOT fitted as standard.

Transmission Fluid Draining

  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2. Drain the transmission fluid. WARNING: TRANSMISSION FLUID MAY CAUSE SEVERE BURNS, ENSURE THAT ALL SAFETY PROCEDURES ARE OBSERVED AND THAT THE RECEPTACLE FOR WASTE HAS SUFFICIENT CAPACITY. Carefully remove the drain plug and drain the transmission fluid.
  3. Refit the drain plug and tighten to the specified torque figure. Use a new O-ring. (Scheme 29)

  1. Connect the PDU to monitor the fluid temperature.
  2. Access the dipstick tube. Break off the dipstick tube plug locking plate. Push the locking pin downward, into the plug. Remove the dipstick tube plug. Push the locking pin through the tube plug and discard the pin.
  3. Pour approximately 4.0 liters of fluid into the transmission.
  4. Select Park and start the engine.
  5. Pour approximately 3.0 liters of fluid into the transmission. (Scheme 31)
  6. Cycle the gear selector. From P to D. From D to R. From R to P.
  7. Check the transmission fluid temperature to select the appropriate dipstick calibration. MAX and MIN marks at 25°C fluid temperature. MAX and MIN marks at 80°C fluid temperature.
  8. Check the transmission fluid level. Insert the dipstick (special tool 307-379) until it stops (tip contact with the fluid pan). Remove the dipstick and check the level. Repeat this operation.
  9. Correct the fluid level as required, noting that excess fluid MUST be removed.
  10. STOP the engine and remove the dipstick.
  11. Seal the dipstick tube. Seat the tube plug. Engage and fully seat the new locking pin.
  12. Check for leaks and remove spilled fluid.
