External Control: Removal & Installation Jaguar XKR I

Installation

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2. The kickdown switch MUST be adjusted in accordance with «KICKDOWN SWITCH ADJUSTMENT»(ref-171879-S31965238422005021500000) .

  1. Remove battery cover and disconnect ground cable from battery terminal. Refer to «BATTERY DISCONNECTION PROCEDURE»(ref-171253-S19302448882005020100000) .
  2. Position the shift to "N".
  3. Remove the J-gate surround. See «SELECTOR LEVER GATE FINISH PANEL»(ref-171879-S36733566332005021500000) .
  4. Remove the console finisher veneer panel. See «FLOOR CONSOLE FINISH PANEL»(ref-198054-S41372053992005101500000) .
  5. Remove the center console assembly, see «FLOOR CONSOLE»(ref-198054-S41022631022005101500000) .
  6. Raise and support vehicle for access.
  7. Detach the gear selector cable from the transmission unit. Remove the nut which secures the selector cable ball pin to the selector lever. Lower the transmission lift for access. Remove the bolts which secure the selector cable to the transmission casing.
  8. Reposition the selector cable.
  9. Remove the LH front seat. See «FRONT SEATS»(ref-171767) .
  10. Reposition the LH floor carpet for access.
  11. Remove the selector cable to tunnel clip tie strap.
  12. Detach the selector cable from the gear shift assembly. Remove the inner cable to shift lever nut. Slacken the outer cable lock nuts.
  13. Push the outer cable grommet through the transmission tunnel aperture.
  14. Remove the selector cable assembly from the vehicle.

  1. Assemble the cable to the gear shift assembly. Locate the outer cable and fit the inner cable to the gear selector arm. Tighten to the specified torque figure. Position the abutment nuts to the approximate position, but do not tighten.
  2. Fit the cable to the transmission and tighten the fixings to the specified torque figure.
  3. Secure the outer cable. (Scheme 97)
  4. Adjust the selector cable in accordance with «SELECTOR LEVER CABLE ADJUSTMENT»(ref-171879-S08541685732005021500000).
  5. Further installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  6. Perform the «BATTERY RECONNECTION PROCEDURE»(ref-171253-S14708357522005020100000).

  1. Remove battery cover and disconnect ground cable from battery terminal. Refer to «BATTERY DISCONNECTION PROCEDURE»(ref-171253-S19302448882005020100000) .
  2. Apply protective tape to veneer along each side of "J" gate finisher.
  3. Using a thin plastic lever and exercising care to avoid damaging veneer surface, release the four surround tangs from the "J" gate.
  4. Disconnect multiplugs from Sport mode and Cruise Control on/off switches.
  5. Noting orientation of switches, depress tangs and remove switches from surround.
  1. Ensuring correct orientation, fit and fully seat Sport mode and Cruise Control on/off switches in surround.
  2. Position surround for access and connect switch harness multiplugs.
  3. Position surround over "J" gate and press firmly to fully seat tangs.
  4. Remove protective tape from veneer panel.
  5. Perform the «BATTERY RECONNECTION PROCEDURE»(ref-171253-S14708357522005020100000) .

  1. Remove battery cover and disconnect ground cable from battery terminal. Refer to «BATTERY DISCONNECTION PROCEDURE»(ref-171253-S19302448882005020100000) .
  2. Remove the selector lever knob. See «TRANSMISSION SELECTOR LEVER KNOB»(ref-171879-S25333044842005021500000) .
  3. Remove the J-gate surround. See «SELECTOR LEVER GATE FINISH PANEL»(ref-171879-S36733566332005021500000) .
  4. Remove the console finisher veneer panel. See «FLOOR CONSOLE FINISH PANEL»(ref-198054-S41372053992005101500000) .
  5. Remove the selector indicator module screws.
  6. Remove the selector indicator module. Free the D to 4 switch harness multiplug from the mounting bracket and disconnect the multiplug. Displace the P switch multiplug from the mounting bracket. Route the D to 4 harness from under the P switch harness.
  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure
  2. Perform the «BATTERY RECONNECTION PROCEDURE»(ref-171253-S14708357522005020100000) .

  1. Remove battery cover and disconnect ground cable from battery terminal. Refer to «BATTERY DISCONNECTION PROCEDURE»(ref-171253-S19302448882005020100000) .
  2. Remove the selector indicator assembly. See «SELECTOR LEVER INDICATOR ASSEMBLY»(ref-171879-S13337162682005021500000) .
  3. Remove the selector lever indicator disc. Remove the disc retaining screw.
  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2. Perform the «BATTERY RECONNECTION PROCEDURE»(ref-171253-S14708357522005020100000) .

  5. Remove the D to 4 switch. Press the retaining tangs to release.
  1. Fitting a new D to 4 switch is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2. Perform the «BATTERY RECONNECTION PROCEDURE»(ref-171253-S14708357522005020100000) .

  1. Remove the selector lever knob. Slacken the ferrule, rotate clock-wise. Rotate the knob counter-clockwise to remove.

  1. Refer to the illustration. Fit the knob. Tighten the ferrule to the specified torque figure.
