Transmission selector lever

The transmission selector lever

1. Has eight positions: Park, Reverse, Neutral, Drive, Fifth, Fourth, Third and Second.
2. Operates the transmission selector shaft in the Park, Reverse, Neutral, Drive positions by means of a cable.
3. Communicates the transmission selector lever position to the transmission control module (TCM) using electronic code through the Controlled Area Network (CAN) bus.
4. Uses "Hall Effect" switches and a micro controller inside the transmission selector lever to generate the electronic code.
5. When moved to the left-hand side of the transmission selector lever, allows manual electronic selection of Fifth, Fourth, Third and Second gears.

The transmission selector illumination

1. Is provided by the TCM by using electronic code.
2. Is possible by decoding the electronic code received by the transmission selector lever from the TCM and illuminating the relevant transmission selector lever position.
3. Provides a red transmission lever position illumination to indicate the selected gear.
4. Provides a green background for the transmission selector lever module and is hard-wired to the front electronics module (FEM).

The eight transmission selector positions are

1. P: The transmission is mechanically locked (starting available).
2. R: Reverse gear.
3. N: No power to the rear wheels (starting available).
4. D: All six forward gears available.
5. 5: Upshift to fifth gear only.
6. 4: Upshift to fourth gear only.
7. 3: Upshift to third gear only.
8. 2: Upshift to second gear only.

Sport mode switch

The sport mode switch

1. Allows the driver to select or de-select the automatic transmission sport mode.
2. Allows the automatic transmission to operate normally when the sport mode is selected, but under acceleration the gear shift points are extended to make full use of the engine's power reserves.
3. Allows the driver to drive the vehicle in the "D" position with the full automatic transmission shift or manually shift gears in the "second, third, fourth and fifth" positions.
4. Is illuminated when Sport mode is selected.
5. Communicates with the TCM through the CAN network to show the sport mode switch status.

Transmission unit gear selector

The gear selector at the transmission unit

1. Is connected to the transmission selector lever module by a selector cable.
2. Operates the manual selector valve, which is part of the electro-hydraulic control unit.

Transmission selector lever interlock solenoid

1. Prevents the transmission selector lever from being moved from the Park position, unless the ignition switch is in the "ON" position and the brake pedal is applied.
2. Is controlled by an input from the brake pedal switch through the CAN bus.
