PINION GAP ADJUSTMENT
| CAUTION | This test must be performed quickly (in less than 10 seconds) to prevent the coil from burning. |
- Remove stater. See «STARTER»(ref-168305-S42378820162004110400000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Disconnect the field coil wire from the starter solenoid terminal "M" and connect a 12 volt battery to starter solenoid terminals "S" and "M". (Scheme 2)
- Complete circuit to move pinion out.
- Check the pinion for stopper clearance (pinion gap) with a feeler gauge. (Scheme 3) For specification, see «STARTER SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-168305-S21087773842004110400000).
- If the pinion gap is out of specification, adjust by adding or removing gaskets between the solenoid and the front bracket. (Scheme 4)
