DTC P16BB: Alternator B Terminal Circuit Low Voltage
Note. Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review the general troubleshooting information (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION ).
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Clear the DTC with the HDS.
- Start the engine.
- Check under these conditions: A/C on Temperature control at maximum cool Blower fan at maximum speed Headlights on high beam Rear window defogger on
- Hold the engine speed at 2,000 RPM (in Park or neutral) 1 minute.
- Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P16BB indicated? YES -Go to step 7. NO -Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the alternator and the under-hood fuse/relay box, and check the battery performance (see «BATTERY»(ref-243308) ).
- Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the alternator and the under-hood fuse/relay box (+B line). Are the connections and terminals OK? YES -Go to step 8. NO -Repair the connectors or terminals, then go to step 9.
- Check for an open in the wire between the alternator and under-hood fuse/relay box at the starter subharness. Is the harness OK? YES -Replace the alternator (see «ALTERNATOR REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-243303-S32825880642006082300000) ), then go to step 9. NO -Repair open in the wire between the alternator and the under-hood fuse/relay box, then go to step 9.
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Reset the PCM with the HDS.
- Do the PCM idle learn procedure (see «PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(ref-243313-S13405059332006082300000) ).
- Start the engine.
- Check under these conditions: A/C on Temperature control at maximum cool Blower fan at maximum speed Headlights on high beam Rear window defogger off
- Hold the engine speed at 2,000 RPM (in Park or neutral) 1 minute.
- Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P16BB indicated? YES -Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the alternator and the under-hood fuse/relay box, then go to step 1 . NO -Troubleshooting is complete. If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.
DTC P16BC: Alternator FR Terminal Circuit/IGP Circuit Low Voltage

- Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the alternator 4P connector. Are the connections and terminals OK? YES -Go to step 2. NO -Repair the connections or terminals, then go to step 19 .
- Check the alternator mounting surfaces for corrosion. Are the mounting surfaces corroded? YES -Remove the alternator (see «ALTERNATOR REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-243303-S32825880642006082300000) ). Clean all mounting surfaces, then reinstall the alternator, and go to step 20 . NO -Go to step 3.
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Clear the DTC with the HDS.
- Start the engine.
- Check under these conditions: A/C on Temperature control at maximum cool Blower fan at maximum speed Headlights on high beam Rear window defogger on
- Hold the engine speed at 2,000 RPM (in Park or neutral) 1 minute.
- Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P16BC indicated? YES -Go to step 9. NO -Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the alternator.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Disconnect the alternator 4P connector.
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Measure voltage between alternator 4P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground. Is there battery voltage? YES -Go to step 13. NO -Repair open in the wire between the alternator (IG1 line) and the No. 6 FI-ECU (15 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box, then go to step 19 .
- Measure voltage between alternator 4P connector terminal No. 4 and body ground. Is there about 5 V? YES -Replace the alternator (see «ALTERNATOR REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-243303-S32825880642006082300000) ), then go to step 19 . NO -Go to step 14.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
- Disconnect PCM connector C (44P).
- Connect alternator 4P connector terminal No. 4 to body ground with a jumper wire.
- Check for continuity between PCM connector terminal C41 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES -Go to step 27 . NO -Repair open in the wire between the PCM (C41) and the alternator, then go to step 19.
- Reconnect all connectors.
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Reset the PCM with the HDS.
- Do the PCM idle learn procedure (see «PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(ref-243313-S13405059332006082300000) ).
- Start the engine.
- Check under these conditions: A/C on Temperature control at maximum cool Blower fan at maximum speed Headlights on high beam Rear window defogger on
- Hold the engine speed at 2,000 RPM (in Park or neutral) 1 minute.
- Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P16BC indicated? YES -Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the alternator and the PCM, then go to step 1 . NO -Troubleshooting is complete. If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.
- Reconnect all connectors.
- Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software (see «UPDATING THE PCM»(ref-243311-S19790429062006082300000) ), or substitute a known-good PCM (see «HOW TO SUBSTITUTE THE PCM»(ref-243311-S24543735662006082300000) ).
- Start the engine.
- Check under these conditions: A/C on Temperature control at maximum cool Blower fan at maximum speed Headlights on high beam Rear window defogger on
- Hold the engine speed at 2,000 RPM (in Park or neutral) 1 minute.
- Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P16BC indicated? YES -Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the alternator and the PCM, then go to step 1 . If the PCM was updated, substitute a known-good PCM (see «HOW TO SUBSTITUTE THE PCM»(ref-243311-S24543735662006082300000) ), then go to step 29 . If the PCM was substituted, go to step 1 . NO -If the PCM was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM (see «PCM REPLACEMENT»(ref-298125-S08727755362008091500000) ). If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.
DTC P2A00: Rear A/F Sensor (Bank 1, Sensor 1) Circuit Range/Performance Problem; DTC P2A03: Front A/F Sensor (Bank 2, Sensor 1) Circuit Range/Performance Problem
Note. Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review the general troubleshooting information (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION ). Information marked with an asterisk (*) applies to the front bank (Bank 2).
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Clear the DTC with the HDS.
- Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3,000 RPM without load (in Park or neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.
- Test-drive under these conditions: Engine coolant temperature (ECT SENSOR 1) above 158°F (70°C) Transmission in D position Vehicle speed between 22-55 mph (40-88 km/h) for 5 minutes, then drive at a steady speed between 55-75 mph (88-120 km/h) for 10 seconds.
- Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P2A00 and/or P2A03* in the DTCs MENU with the HDS. Does the screen indicate FAILED? YES -Go to step 6. NO -If the screen indicates PASSED, intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the A/F sensor (Sensor 1) and the PCM. If it is EXECUTING, keep driving until a result comes on. If the screen indicates OUT OF CONDITION, go to step 3 and recheck.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Replace the A/F sensor (Sensor 1) (see «A/F SENSOR REPLACEMENT»(ref-298125-S11979049012008091500000) ).
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Reset the PCM with the HDS.
- Do the PCM idle learn procedure (see «PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(ref-243313-S13405059332006082300000) ).
- Test-drive under these conditions: Engine coolant temperature (ECT SENSOR 1) above 158°F (70°C) Transmission in D position Vehicle speed between 22-55 mph (40-88 km/h) for 5 minutes, then drive at a steady speed between 55-75 mph (88-120 km/h) for 10 seconds.
- Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P2A00 and/or P2A03* indicated? YES -Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the A/F sensor (Sensor 1) and the PCM, then go to step 1 . NO -Go to step 13.
- Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P2A00 and/or P2A03* in the DTCs MENU with the HDS. Does the screen indicate PASSED? YES -Troubleshooting is complete. If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs were indicated in step 12 , go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting. NO -If the screen indicates FAILED, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the A/F sensor (Sensor 1) and the PCM, then go to step 1 . If the screen indicates EXECUTING, keep driving until a result comes on. If the screen indicates OUT OF CONDITION, go to step 11 .
DLC Circuit Troubleshooting
Note. If the PCM does not communicate with the HDS, do this troubleshooting procedure. Check that MIL circuit is normal, then do this troubleshooting.

- Measure voltage between DLC terminal No. 16 and body ground. Is there battery voltage? YES -Go to step 2. NO -Repair open in the wire between DLC terminal No. 16 and the No. 46 ACGS (15 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box.
- Measure voltage between DLC terminals No. 4 and No. 16. Is there battery voltage? YES -Go to step 3. NO -Repair open in the wire between DLC terminal No. 4 and body ground (G401).
- Measure voltage between DLC terminals No. 5 and No. 16. Is there battery voltage? YES -Go to step 8 . NO -Go to step 4.
- Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
- Disconnect PCM connector A (44P).
- Connect the DLC terminal No. 5 to body ground with a jumper wire.
- Check for continuity between PCM connector terminal A22 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES -Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software (see «UPDATING THE PCM»(ref-243311-S19790429062006082300000) ), or substitute a known-good PCM (see «HOW TO SUBSTITUTE THE PCM»(ref-243311-S24543735662006082300000) ), then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good PCM, replace the original PCM (see «PCM REPLACEMENT»(ref-298125-S08727755362008091500000) ). NO -Repair open in the wire between the PCM (A22) and DLC terminal No. 5. After repairing the wire, check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS and go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Measure voltage between DLC terminals No. 5 and No. 7. Is there 8.5 V or more? YES -Go to step 16 . NO -Go to step 10.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
- Disconnect PCM connector A (44P).
- Check for continuity between DLC terminal No. 7 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES -Repair short to ground in the wire between DLC terminal No. 7 and the PCM (A43). After repairing the wire, check for a DTC with the HDS, and go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting. NO -Go to step 14.
- Connect the DLC terminal No. 7 to body ground with a jumper wire.
- Check for continuity between PCM connector terminal A43 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES -Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software (see «UPDATING THE PCM»(ref-243311-S19790429062006082300000) ), or substitute a known-good PCM (see «HOW TO SUBSTITUTE THE PCM»(ref-243311-S24543735662006082300000) ), then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good PCM, replace the original PCM (see «PCM REPLACEMENT»(ref-298125-S08727755362008091500000) ). NO -Repair open in the wire between DLC terminal No. 7 and the PCM (A43). After repairing the wire, check for a DTC with the HDS, and go to the DTC troubleshooting.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
- Disconnect PCM connector A (44P).
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Measure voltage between DLC terminals No. 5 and No. 7. Is there 0 V? YES -Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software (see «UPDATING THE PCM»(ref-243311-S19790429062006082300000) ), or substitute a known-good PCM (see «HOW TO SUBSTITUTE THE PCM»(ref-243311-S24543735662006082300000) ), then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good PCM, replace the original PCM (see «PCM REPLACEMENT»(ref-298125-S08727755362008091500000) ). NO -Repair short to power in the wire between DLC terminal No. 7 and the PCM (A43). After repairing the wire, check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS. If any Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.

- Relieve fuel pressure (see «FUEL PRESSURE RELIEVING»(ref-243300-S36075737792006082300000) ).
- Remove the intake manifold (see «INTAKE MANIFOLD REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-243299-S14780088452006082300000) ).
- Disconnect the connectors from the injectors (A).
- Disconnect the quick-connect fitting (B) (see «FUEL LINE/QUICK-CONNECT FITTING REMOVAL»(ref-243300-S03279402062006082300000) ).
- Remove the fuel rail mounting bolts (C) from the fuel rail (D).
- Remove the injector clip (E) from the fuel rail.
- Remove the injectors from the rails.
- Coat the new O-ring (A) with clean engine oil, and insert the injectors (B) into the fuel rail (C).
- Install the injector clip (D).
- Coat the new injector O-ring (E) with clean engine oil.
- Install the injector/fuel rail assembly into the injector base.
- Install the fuel rail mounting bolts.
- Install the connectors on the injectors.
- Connect the quick-connect fitting (see «FUEL LINE/QUICK-CONNECT FITTING INSTALLATION»(ref-243300-S31387425262006082300000) ).
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II), but do not operate the starter. After the fuel pump runs for about 2 seconds, the fuel pressure in the fuel line rises. Repeat this two or three times, then check for fuel leakage.
- Install the intake manifold (see «INTAKE MANIFOLD REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-243299-S14780088452006082300000) ).
