Note. Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review the general troubleshooting information (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION ).
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Clear the DTC with the HDS.
- Test-drive the vehicle for 10 minutes in the range of these recorded freeze data parameters: ENGINE SPEED VSS
- Check for Pending or Confirmed DTC's with the HDS. Is DTC P0344 indicated? YES -Go to step 5. NO -Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the CMP sensor and the PCM.
- Check for poor connections or loose terminals at these locations: CMP sensor PCM Engine ground Body ground Are the connections OK? YES -Go to step 6. NO -Repair or replace the connectors or the terminals, then go to step 9 .
- Check for damage to the CMP sensor pulse projection on the front camshaft pulley (see «KNOCK SENSOR REPLACEMENT»(ref-355276-S07990504262010012200000) ). Is there damage? YES -Replace the front camshaft pulley (see «KNOCK SENSOR REPLACEMENT»(ref-355276-S07990504262010012200000) ), then go to step 9 . NO -Go to step 7.
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Replace the CMP sensor (see «KNOCK SENSOR REPLACEMENT»(ref-355276-S07990504262010012200000) ).
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Reset the PCM with the HDS.
- Do the PCM idle learn procedure (see «PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(ref-294703-S06414002682008081300000) ).
- Do the CKP pattern learn procedure (see «CKP PATTERN CLEAR/CKP PATTERN LEARN»(ref-372404-S40962752732010092500000) ).
- Test-drive the vehicle for 10 minutes in the range of these recorded freeze data parameters: ENGINE SPEED VSS
- Check for Pending or Confirmed DTC's with the HDS. Is DTC P0344 indicated? YES -Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the CMP sensor and the PCM, then go to step 1 . NO -Troubleshooting is complete. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTC's are indicated, go to the indicated «DTC'S TROUBLESHOOTING»(ref-355276-S17063065962010012200000) .
