PCM Replacement
Special Tools Required
- Honda Diagnostic System (HDS) tablet tester
- Honda Interface Module (HIM) and an iN workstation with the latest HDS software version
- HDS pocket tester
- GNA600 and an iN workstation with the latest HDS software version

Scheme 917
- Connect HDS to the data link connector (DLC) (A) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Make sure the HDS communicates with the PCM and other vehicle systems. If it doesn't, go to the DLC circuit troubleshooting (see «DLC CIRCUIT TROUBLESHOOTING»(ref-512893-S17266721462012110400000) ). If the result of the DLC circuit troubleshooting is to replace the PCM, skip steps 4 through 7 , 17 through 22 , and 25 through 26 , and do the following procedures after replacing the PCM: Replace the engine oil (see «ENGINE OIL REPLACEMENT»(ref-512894-S16668778722012110400000) ) and the engine oil filter (see «ENGINE OIL FILTER REPLACEMENT»(ref-512894-S36784635312012110400000) ). Replace the ATF (see «ATF REPLACEMENT»(ref-512900-S11111706622012110400000) ).
- Select the PGM-FI system with the HDS.
- Select the REPLACE PCM MENU, then select READ DATA, and follow the HDS prompts. NOTE: Doing this step copies (READS) the engine oil life data from the original PCM so you can later download (WRITES) it into the new PCM. If READ DATA indicates FAILED, continue with this procedure.
- Select the A/T system with the HDS.
- Select the REPLACE TCM/PCM MENU, then select READ DATA, and follow the HDS prompts. NOTE: Doing this step copies (READS) the ATF life data from the original PCM so you can later download (WRITES) it into the new PCM. If READ DATA indicates FAILED, continue with this procedure.
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Do the battery removal procedure (see «BATTERY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-512910-S20680339942012110400000) ).
- Remove the bolts (D).
- Disconnect PCM connectors A, B, and C, then remove the PCM assembly (E). NOTE: PCM connectors A, B, and C have symbols (A=[], B=delta, C=o;) embossed on them for identification.
- Remove the cover (A) and the bracket (B) from the PCM (C).
- Install the PCM in the reverse order of removal.
- Do the battery installation procedure (see «BATTERY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-512910-S20680339942012110400000) ).
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Manually input the VIN to the PCM with the HDS. NOTE: DTC P0630 VIN Not Programmed or Mismatch may be stored because the VIN has not been programmed into the PCM; ignore it, and continue this procedure.
- If the READ DATA (engine oil life) failed in step 5 , go to step 20 . Otherwise, go to step 18.
- Select the PGM-FI system with the HDS.
- Select the REPLACE PCM MENU, then select WRITE DATA, and follow the HDS prompts. NOTE: If the WRITE DATA indicates FAILED, continue with this procedure.
- If the READ DATA (ATF life) failed in step 7 , go to step 23 . Otherwise go to step 21.
- Select the A/T SYSTEM with the HDS.
- Select the REPLACE TCM/PCM MENU, then select WRITE DATA, and follow the HDS prompts. NOTE: If the WRITE DATA indicates FAILED, continue with this procedure.
- Select IMMOBI system with the HDS.
- Enter the immobilizer PCM code that you got from iN, and use the PCM replacement procedure in the IMMOBI MENU of the HDS; it allows you to start the engine.
- If the READ DATA failed in step 5 or the WRITE DATA failed in step 19 , replace the engine oil (see «ENGINE OIL REPLACEMENT»(ref-512894-S16668778722012110400000) ) and the engine oil filter (see «ENGINE OIL FILTER REPLACEMENT»(ref-512894-S36784635312012110400000) ), then go to step 26
- If the READ DATA failed in step 7 or the WRITE DATA failed in step 22 , replace the ATF (see «ATF REPLACEMENT»(ref-512900-S11111706622012110400000) ), then go to step 27.
- Select PGM-FI system, and reset the PCM with the HDS.
- Clean the throttle body (see «THROTTLE BODY CLEANING»(ref-512914-S16029622042012110400000) ).
- Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software (see «PCM UPDATE»(ref-512916-S11084252612012110400000) ).
- Do the PCM idle learn procedure (see «PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(ref-512915-S18881962312012110400000) ).
- Do the CKP pattern clear/CKP pattern learn procedure (see «CKP PATTERN CLEAR/CKP PATTERN LEARN»(ref-512892-S26509502782012110400000) ).
