A/F Sensor Replacement

Special Tools Required

O2 Sensor Socket Wrench Snap-on SWR2 or O2 Sensor Wrench Snap-on YA8875, commercially available

Scheme 246: Front Bank (Bank2)
  1. Disconnect the front A/F sensor 6P (PZEV model: 8P) connector (A), then remove the A/F sensor (B).
  2. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.

  1. Disconnect the rear A/F sensor 6P (PZEV model: 8P) connector (A), then remove the A/F sensor (B).
  2. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.

Secondary HO2S Replacement

Special Tools Required

O2 Sensor Socket Wrench Snap-on SWR2 or O2 Sensor Wrench Snap-on YA8875, commercially available

  1. Disconnect the front secondary HO2S 4P connector (A), and remove the harness clamps (B).
  2. Raise the vehicle on a lift.
  3. Remove the harness clamp (A), then remove the front secondary HO2S (B).
  4. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.

  1. Raise the vehicle on a lift.
  2. Disconnect the rear secondary HO2S 4P connector (A), and remove the harness clamps (B).
  3. Remove rear secondary HO2S (C).
  4. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.

  1. Remove the timing belt; J35Z2 engine (see «TIMING BELT REMOVAL»(ref-423691-S09897270592011092800000) ), J35Z3 engine (see «TIMING BELT REMOVAL»(ref-423692-S00784422372011092800000) ).
  2. Remove the front camshaft pulley (CMP sensor pulse plate) (A).
  3. Disconnect the CMP sensor connector (B), then remove the back cover (C).
  4. Remove the CMP sensor (A) from the back cover.
  5. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal. Install the timing belt; J35Z2 engine (see «TIMING BELT INSTALLATION»(ref-423691-S28486420472011092800000) ), J35Z3 engine (see «TIMING BELT INSTALLATION»(ref-423692-S06142400552011092800000) ).
  6. Do the CKP pattern clear/CKP pattern learn procedure (see «CKP PATTERN CLEAR/CKP PATTERN LEARN»(ref-423698-S35315721402011092800000) ).

Scheme 253: CKP Sensor Replacement
  1. Raise the vehicle on a lift. NOTE: Make the vehicle is level, because engine oil will drip out when you remove the sensor.
  2. Remove the CKP sensor cover (A).
  3. Disconnect the CKP sensor connector (B).
  4. Remove the CKP sensor (C).
  5. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal with a new O-ring (D).
  6. Do the CKP pattern clear/CKP pattern learn procedure (see «CKP PATTERN CLEAR/CKP PATTERN LEARN»(ref-423698-S35315721402011092800000) ).
  7. Check the engine oil level, and add more oil if needed.

Input Shaft (Mainshaft) Speed Sensor Replacement

Note. For A/T models (see INPUT SHAFT (MAINSHAFT) SPEED SENSOR REPLACEMENT ).

  1. Raise the vehicle on a lift.
  2. Remove the splash shield.
  3. Disconnect the input shaft (mainshaft) speed sensor connector (A).
  4. Remove the input shaft (mainshaft) speed sensor (B).
  5. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal with a new O-ring (C).
  6. If needed, refill the manual transmission fluid (see «TRANSMISSION FLUID INSPECTION AND REPLACEMENT»(ref-423683-S19269959282011092800000) ).

Output Shaft (Countershaft) Speed Sensor Replacement

  1. Raise the vehicle on a lift.
  2. Remove the splash shield.
  3. Disconnect the output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor connector (A).
  4. Remove the output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor (B).
  5. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal with a new O-ring (C).

  1. Remove the intake manifold (see «REMOVAL»(ref-423685-S37156485832011092800000) ).
  2. Remove the injector base (see «INJECTOR BASE REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-423685-S06819739492011092800000) ).
  3. Disconnect the knock sensor connector (A).
  4. Remove the knock sensor (B).
  5. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.

  1. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure (see «BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION AND RECONNECTION»(ref-423695-S16071056072011092800000) ).
  2. Remove the upper cover (A), then remove the two positive (+) terminals (B).
  3. Remove the under-hood fuse/relay box (C) from the bracket.
  4. Remove the lower cover (A). A
  5. Disconnect the ELD 3P connector (B).
  6. Remove the fuses (A and B).
  7. Release the three lock tabs (A), then remove the ELD (B).
  8. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
  9. Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure (see «BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION AND RECONNECTION»(ref-423695-S16071056072011092800000) ).

ECM/PCM Replacement

Special Tools Required

  1. Honda Diagnostic System (HDS) tablet tester
  2. Honda Interface Module (HIM) and an iN workstation with the latest HDS software version
  3. HDS pocket tester
  4. GNA600 and an iN workstation with the latest HDS software version
  5. MVCI unti with the latest control module (CM) update software installed.

Any one of the above updating tools can be used.

Note. Make sure the HDS/iN worstation or the MVCI has the latest HDS software version.

  1. Connect HDS to the data link connector (DLC) (A) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  3. Make sure the HDS communicates with the ECM/PCM and other vehicle systems. If it doesn't, go to the «DLC CIRCUIT TROUBLESHOOTING»(ref-423675-S13110687632011092800000) . If you are returning from the DLC circuit troubleshooting, skip steps 4 through 7 , 20 through 25, and 28 through 30, and do this after replacing the ECM/PCM: Replace the engine oil (see «ENGINE OIL LEVEL CHECK»(ref-423676-S30996061642011092800000) ) and the engine oil filter (see «ENGINE OIL FILTER REPLACEMENT»(ref-423676-S22842691592011092800000) ). Replace the ATF (A/T model) (see «ATF REPLACEMENT»(ref-423684-S21854405112011092800000) ).
  4. Select the PGM-FI system with the HDS.
  5. Select the REPLACE ECM/PCM MENU, then select READ DATA, and follow the screen prompts. NOTE: Doing this step copies (READS) the engine oil life data from the original ECM/PCM so you can later download (WRITES) it into the new ECM/PCM. If READ DATA indicates FAILED, continue with this procedure.
  6. A/T models: Select the A/T system with the HDS.
  7. A/T models: Select the REPLACE TCM/PCM MENU, then select READ DATA, and follow the screen prompts. NOTE: Doing this step copies (READS) the ATF life data from the original PCM so you can later download (WRITES) it into the new PCM. If READ DATA indicates FAILED, continue with this procedure.
  8. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  9. Do the battery removal procedure (see «BATTERY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-423695-S12032225202011092800000) ).
  10. Remove the bolts (D).
  11. Disconnect ECM/PCM connectors A, B, and C, then remove the ECM/PCM assembly (E). NOTE: ECM/PCM connectors A, B, and C have symbols (A=[], B=delta, C=o) embossed on them for identification.
  12. Remove the cover (A) and the bracket (B) from the ECM/PCM (C).
  13. Install the ECM/PCM in the reverse order of removal
  14. Do the battery installation procedure (see «BATTERY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-423695-S12032225202011092800000) ).
  15. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  16. Manually input the VIN to the ECM/PCM with the HDS.. NOTE: DTC P0630 VIN Not Programmed or Mismatch may be stored because the VIN has not been programmed into the ECM/PCM; ignore it, and continue this procedure.
  17. If the READ DATA (engine oil life) failed in step 5, go to step 20 (A/T model) or step 23 (M/T model). Otherwise, go to step 18.
  18. Select the PGM-FI system with the HDS.
  19. Select the REPLACE ECM/PCM MENU, then select WRITE DATA, and follow the screen prompts. NOTE: If the WRITE DATA indicates FAILED, continue with this procedure.
  20. A/T models: If the READ DATA (ATF life) failed in step 7, go to step 23 . Otherwise go to step 21.
  21. A/T models: Select the A/T SYSTEM with the HDS.
  22. ATT models: Select the REPLACE TCM/PCM MENU, then select WRITE DATA, and follow the screen prompts. NOTE: If the WRITE DATA indicates FAILED, continue with this procedure.
  23. Select IMMOBI system with the HDS.
  24. Enter the immobilizer ECM/PCM code that you got from iN, and use the ECM/PCM replacement procedure in the IMMOBI MENU of the HDS; it allows you to start the engine.
  25. If the READ DATA failed in step 5 or the WRITE DATA failed in step 19, replace the engine oil (see «ENGINE OIL LEVEL CHECK»(ref-423676-S30996061642011092800000) ) and engine oil filter (see «ENGINE OIL FILTER REPLACEMENT»(ref-423676-S22842691592011092800000) ), then go to step 26 (A/T model) or step 27 (M/T model).
  26. A/T models: If the READ DATA failed in step 7 or the WRITE DATA failed in step 22, replace the ATF (see «ATF REPLACEMENT»(ref-423684-S21854405112011092800000) ), then go to step 27.
  27. Select PGM-FI system, and reset the ECM/PCM with the HDS.
  28. Clean the throttle body (see «THROTTLE BODY CLEANING»(ref-423687-S33047156022011092800000) ).
  29. Update the ECM/PCM if it does not have the latest software (see «ECM/PCM UPDATE»(ref-423675-S07984033632011092800000) ).
  30. Do the ECM/PCM idle learn procedure (see «ECM/PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(ref-423700-S15361251852011092800000) ).
  31. Do the CKP pattern clear/CKP pattern learn procedure (see «CKP PATTERN CLEAR/CKP PATTERN LEARN»(ref-423698-S35315721402011092800000) ).
