DTC P16BB: Alternator B Terminal Circuit Low Voltage (2005-2007 models)
Note. Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review the general troubleshooting information (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION ).
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Clear the DTC with the HDS.
- Start the engine.
- Check under these conditions: A/C on Temperature control at maximum cool Blower fan at maximum speed Rear window defogger on Headlights on high beam
- Hold the engine speed at 2,000 rpm (in Park or neutral) for 1 minute.
- Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P16BB indicated? YES - Go to step 7. NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the alternator and the under-hood fuse/relay box, and check the battery performance, refer to «BATTERY (EXCEPT HYBRID & V6)»(ref-217140) .
- Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the alternator and the under-hood fuse/relay box (+B line). Are the connections and terminals OK? YES - Go to step 8. NO - Repair the connectors or terminals, then go to step 9 .
- Check for an open in the wire between the alternator and under-hood fuse/relay box at the starter subharness. Is the harness OK? YES - Replace the alternator (see «ALTERNATOR REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-220829-S12634026372006022100000) ), then go to step 9. NO - Repair open in the wire between the alternator and the under-hood fuse/relay box, then go to step 9.
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Reset the ECM/PCM with the HDS.
- Do the ECM/PCM idle learn procedure (see «ECM/PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(ref-220843-S14332728472006022100000) ).
- Start the engine.
- Check under these conditions: A/C on Temperature control at maximum cool Blower fan at maximum speed Rear window defogger on Headlights on high beam
- Hold the engine speed at 2,000 rpm (in Park or neutral) for 1 minute.
- Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS. Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated? YES - If DTC P16BB is indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the alternator and the under-hood fuse/relay box, then go to step 1 . If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated «DTC TROUBLESHOOTING»(ref-220840-S22832464282006022100000) . NO - Troubleshooting is complete.
DTC P16BC: Alternator FR Terminal Circuit/IGP Circuit Low Voltage (2005-2007 models)

- Check for poor connections at the alternator 4P connector. Are the connections OK? YES - Go to step 2. NO - Reconnect the connector, then go to step 18 .
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Clear the DTC with the HDS.
- Start the engine.
- Check under these conditions: A/C on Temperature control at maximum cool Blower fan at maximum speed Rear window defogger on Headlights on high beam
- Hold the engine speed at 2,000 rpm (in Park or neutral) for 1 minute.
- Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P16BC indicated? YES - Go to step 8. NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the alternator.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Disconnect the alternator 4P connector.
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Measure voltage between alternator 4P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground. Is there battery voltage? YES - Go to step 12. NO - Repair open in the wire between the alternator (IG1 line) and the No. 18 ACG (15 A) fuse in under-dash fuse/relay box, then go to step 18 .
- Measure voltage between alternator 4P connector terminal No. 4 and body ground. Is there about 5 V? YES - Replace the alternator (see «ALTERNATOR REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-220829-S12634026372006022100000) ), then go to step 18 . NO - Go to step 13.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
- Disconnect ECM/PCM connector E (31P).
- Connect alternator 4P connector terminal No. 4 to body ground with a jumper wire.
- Check for continuity between ECM/PCM connector terminal E12 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES - Go to step 26 . NO - Repair open in the wire between the ECM/PCM (E12) and the alternator, then go to step 18.
- Reconnect all connectors.
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Reset the ECM/PCM with the HDS.
- Do the ECM/PCM idle learn procedure (see «ECM/PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(ref-220843-S14332728472006022100000) ).
- Start the engine.
- Check under these conditions: A/C on Temperature control at maximum cool Blower fan at maximum speed Rear window defogger on Headlights on high beam
- Hold the engine speed at 2,000 rpm (in Park or neutral) for 1 minute.
- Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS. Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated? YES - If DTC P16BC is indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the alternator and the ECM/PCM, then go to step 1 . If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated «DTC TROUBLESHOOTING»(ref-220840-S22832464282006022100000) . NO - Troubleshooting is complete.
- Update the ECM/PCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good ECM/PCM (see «ECM/PCM UPDATING AND SUBSTITUTION FOR TESTING»(ref-220839-S22230196232006022100000) ).
- Start the engine.
- Check under these conditions: A/C on Temperature control at maximum cool Blower fan at maximum speed Rear window defogger on Headlights on high beam
- Hold the engine speed at 2,000 rpm (in Park or neutral) for 1 minute.
- Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS. Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated? YES - If DTC P16BC is indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the alternator and the ECM/PCM, then go to step 1 . If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated «DTC TROUBLESHOOTING»(ref-220840-S22832464282006022100000) . NO - If the ECM/PCM was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the ECM/PCM was substituted, replace the original ECM/PCM (see «ECM/PCM REPLACEMENT»(ref-220840-S07206258092006022100000) ).
DTC P2A00: Rear A/F Sensor (Bank 1, Sensor 1) Range/Performance Problem; DTC P2A03: Front A/F Sensor (Bank 2, Sensor 1) Range/Performance Problem
Note. Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review the general troubleshooting information (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION ). Information marked with an asterisk (*) applies to the front bank (Bank 2).
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Clear the DTC with the HDS.
- Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3,000 rpm without load (in Park or neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.
- Test-drive under these conditions: Engine coolant temperature above 158°F (70°C) A/T in D position (M/T in 3rd gear) Vehicle speed at 30 mph (48 km/h) or more, and engine speed at 2,600 rpm or less Drive at an engine speed of 1,600 rpm. Accelerate to full open throttle for 5 seconds, then slow down with the throttle completely closed.
- Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P2A00 and/or P2A03* in the DTCs MENU with the HDS. Does the screen indicate FAILED? YES - Go to step 7. NO - If the screen indicates PASSED, intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the A/F sensor (Sensor 1) and the ECM/PCM. If it is EXECUTING, keep driving until a result comes on. If the screen indicates OUT OF CONDITION, go to step 3 and recheck.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Replace the A/F sensor (Sensor 1) (see «A/F SENSOR REPLACEMENT»(ref-220840-S24671637242006022100000) ).
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Reset the ECM/PCM with the HDS.
- Do the ECM/PCM idle learn procedure (see «ECM/PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(ref-220843-S14332728472006022100000) ).

DLC Circuit Troubleshooting
Note. If the ECM/PCM does not communicate with the HDS, do this troubleshooting procedure. Check that MIL circuit is normal, then do this troubleshooting.

- Measure voltage between DLC terminal No. 16 and body ground. Is there battery voltage? YES - Go to step 2. NO - Repair open in the wire between DLC terminal No. 16 and the No. 8 FI ECU (ECM/PCM) (15 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box.
- Measure voltage between DLC terminals No. 4 and No. 16. Is there battery voltage? YES - Go to step 3. NO - Repair open in the wire between DLC terminal No. 4 and body ground (G501).
- Measure voltage between DLC terminals No. 5 and No. 16. Is there battery voltage? YES - Go to step 4. NO - Repair open in the wire between DLC terminal No. 5 and body ground (G503).
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Measure voltage between DLC terminals No. 5 and No. 7. Is there 8.5 V or more? YES - Go to step 11 . NO - Go to step 6.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
- Disconnect ECM/PCM connector E (31P).
- Check for continuity between DLC terminal No. 7 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES - Repair short to ground in the wire between DLC terminal No. 7 and the ECM/PCM (A14). After repairing the wire, check for a DTC with the HDS and go to the indicated «DTC TROUBLESHOOTING»(ref-220840-S22832464282006022100000) . NO - Go to step 10.
- Check for continuity between DLC terminal No. 7 and ECM/PCM terminal A14. Is there continuity? YES - Update the ECM/PCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good ECM/PCM (see «ECM/PCM UPDATING AND SUBSTITUTION FOR TESTING»(ref-220839-S22230196232006022100000) ), then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good ECM/PCM, replace the original ECM/PCM (see «ECM/PCM REPLACEMENT»(ref-220840-S07206258092006022100000) ). NO - Repair open in the wire between DLC terminal No. 7 and the ECM/PCM (A14). After repairing the wire, check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS and go to the indicated «DTC TROUBLESHOOTING»(ref-220840-S22832464282006022100000) .
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
- Disconnect ECM/PCM connector A (31P).
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Measure voltage between DLC terminals No. 5 and No. 7. Is there 0 V? YES - Update the ECM/PCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good ECM/PCM (see «ECM/PCM UPDATING AND SUBSTITUTION FOR TESTING»(ref-220839-S22230196232006022100000) , then recheck. - Remove the intake manifold (see «INTAKE MANIFOLD REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-220836-S20998555792006022100000) ).
- Disconnect the connectors from the injectors (A).
- Disconnect the quick-connect fittings (B).
- Remove the fuel rail mounting bolts (C) from the fuel rail (D).
- Remove the injector clip (E) from the injector.
- Remove the injector from the fuel rail.
- Coat the new O-rings (A) with clean engine oil, and insert the injectors (B) into the fuel rail (C).
- Install the injector clip (D).
- Coat the injector O-rings (E) with clean engine oil.
- Install the injectors in the injector base (F).
- Install the fuel rail mounting nuts.
- Connect the connectors on the injectors.
- Connect the quick-connect fittings.
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II), but do not operate the starter. After the fuel pump runs for about 2 seconds, the fuel rail will be pressurized. Repeat this two or three times, then check for fuel leakage.
