Front Seat Track Motor and Transmission Assembly
Note. If a seat track motor is inoperative or the front seat track motor and transmission assembly is identified as the source of a noise, install a new front seat track motor and transmission assembly.
The front seat track motor and transmission assembly (driver 54617D67, passenger 54617D66) on this vehicle is serviceable. To install a new front seat track motor and transmission assembly, partial disassembly of the seat track is required. For additional information, refer to FRONT SEAT TRACK MOTOR .
Disassembly
| WARNING | Always wear safety glasses when repairing an air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) vehicle and when handling an air bag module. This will reduce the risk of injury in the event of an accidental deployment. |
| WARNING | After deployment, the air bag surface can contain deposits of sodium hydroxide, a product of the gas generant combustion that is irritating to the skin. Wash your hands with soap and water afterwards. |
| WARNING | Never probe the connectors on the air bag module. Doing so can result in air bag deployment, which can result in personal injury. |

Scheme 53
- Remove the seat and deactivate the SRS. For additional information, refer to «FRONT SEAT»(ref-204630-S36205889712005111300000) .
- Remove the front seat cushion. For additional information, refer to «FRONT SEAT CUSHION»(ref-204630-S31671390612005111300000) .
- Detach the J-strips.
- Remove the seat cushion upholstery from the seat cushion.
Scheme 54
- Position the seat cushion upholstery over the seat cushion foam. Smooth out any wrinkles that appear while attaching the hook and loop fasteners.
- Attach the J-strips.
- Install the front seat cushion. For additional information, refer to «FRONT SEAT CUSHION»(ref-204630-S31671390612005111300000) .
- Install the front seat and reactivate the SRS. For additional information, refer to «FRONT SEAT»(ref-204630-S36205889712005111300000) .

- Remove the seat and deactivate the SRS. For additional information, refer to «FRONT SEAT»(ref-204630-S36205889712005111300000) .
- Remove the front cushion side shield. For additional information, refer to «FRONT SEAT CUSHION - SIDE SHIELD»(ref-204630-S42138654182005111300000) .
- Pressing the release button, pull the head restraint from the seat.
- Remove the seat backrest. For additional information, refer to «FRONT SEAT BACKREST»(ref-204630-S00083642532005111300000) .
- Remove the safety belt guide screw cover.
- Remove the two screws.
- Release the backrest upholstery J-clip.
- Separate the hook and loop fasteners that attach the upholstery to the backrest cushion. Remove the upholstery.
- Remove and discard the hog rings. Remove the backrest cushion.
- Release the side air bag module electrical harness from the seat frame. To aid installation, mark the electrical harness-to-seat frame attachment points.
- Remove the two side air bag module nuts.
- Pull down on the lower rung of the lumbar basket to release the basket from the backrest frame. Remove the basket from the backrest frame.
- Mark the inboard and outboard head restraint guides. Squeeze together the bottom end of the head restraint guide. Push the guide through backrest frame tube to remove.
Assembly
| WARNING | Inspect the mounting surfaces of the side air bag module and the seat back frame mounting bracket for any foreign objects are found, remove them. Failure to do so may result in personal injury in the event of an air bag deployment. |
| WARNING | Inspect the side air bag cavity in the seat back pad for any foreign objects. If any foreign objects are found, remove them. Failure to do so may result in personal injury in the event of an air bag deployment. |
| WARNING | Before installing the air bag module, check it for damage and foreign objects. If the side air bag module, check it for damage and foreign. If the air bag module is damaged, replace it. If any foreign objects are found, remove them. Failure to do so may result in personal injury in the event of an air bag deployment. |
| WARNING | If the air bag cover has separated or the air bag material has been exposed, install a new side air bag module. Do not attempt to repair the air bag module. Failure to do so may result in personal injury in the event of an air bag deployment. |

- As marked during disassembly, install the inboard and outboard head restraint guides.
- Install the side air bag module onto the front seat back frame mounting bracket. Route the side air bag module wire harness through the outboard opening in the side of the seat back cushion. Position the side air bag module through the outboard opening in the side of the seat back cushion and onto the mounting bracket. NOTE: If installing a new side air bag module, use new retaining nuts. If the same side air bag module is to be reused, then reuse the side air bag module nuts. Install the side air bag module retaining nuts. Tighten to specification.
- Attach the top of the lumbar basket on the backrest frame.
- Hook the bottom of the lumbar basket on the backrest frame.
- Position the backrest cushion. Install new hog rings.
- Install the backrest upholstery and smooth out any wrinkles.
- Attach the backrest upholstery J-clip.
- Install the safety belt guide.
- Install the screw cover.
- Install the backrest on the lower seat frame. For additional information, refer to «FRONT SEAT BACKREST»(ref-204630-S00083642532005111300000) .
- Install the seat front cushion side shield. For additional information, refer to «FRONT SEAT CUSHION - SIDE SHIELD»(ref-204630-S42138654182005111300000) .
- Install the head restraint.
- Install the front seat and reactivate the SRS. For additional information, refer to «FRONT SEAT»(ref-204630-S36205889712005111300000) .
