Heated Seats
The heated seat control switch adjusts the driver or passenger seat to the desired heat setting: 0 through 5 (setting 0 is off, 1 is the lowest and 5 is the highest). Each heated seat control switch position sends a unique voltage signal to the associated driver or passenger heated seat module. The heated seat module supplies heater current to the seat cushion and backrest heater mats while monitoring input from a temperature sensor (part of the seat cushion heater mat) to maintain the desired seat temperature (setpoint) selected by the heated seat control switch. The approximate temperature setpoints for each heated seat control switch position are
- Position 1: 26°C (78.8° F)
- Position 2: 30° C (86° F)
- Position 3: 35° C (94.9° F)
- Position 4: 42° C (107.5° F)
- Position 5: 52° C (125.5° F)
Heated Seat Control Switch
The heated seat control switch receives voltage from the ignition relay, and contains two 6-position rotary (potentiometer) switches (one for driver side, the other for passenger side). The heated seat control switch supplies a voltage signal to the corresponding driver or passenger heated seat module based upon the selected switch positions. The resistance values for each switch position are
- Position 0 (open circuit)
- Position 1 (6, 849 - 8, 371 ohms)
- Position 2 (5, 724 - 6, 996 ohms)
- Position 3 (4, 599 - 5, 621 ohms)
- Position 4 (3, 474 - 4, 246 ohms)
- Position 5 (2, 584 - 2, 636 ohms)
Heated Seat Module
The heated seat module is part of the cushion heater mat assembly (includes heated seat module, cushion heater mat and associated wiring) and cannot be serviced separately. The driver/passenger heated seat module receives voltage from the accessory relay. When commanded by the heated seat control switch, the heated seat module monitors the cushion temperature sensor and supplies heater current to the seat cushion and backrest heater mats until the desired setpoint temperature is reached. Once the setpoint temperature is reached, the heated seat module cycles the heater circuits on/off as required to maintain the setpoint temperature. The driver/passenger heated seat module has internal overtemperature detection. If the temperature exceeds 115° C (238.8° F), the heated seat module output is switched off. The system reactivates automatically after the temperature drops below 100° C (211.9° F).
Heater Mat
The heated seat module is part of the cushion heater mat assembly (includes heated seat module, cushion heater mat and associated wiring) and cannot be serviced separately. The backrest heater mat can be serviced separately from the cushion heater mat. The cushion and backrest heater mats are connected in parallel. The individual heater mat resistance values are
- Comfort seats - cushion (4.36 - 5.32 ohms), backrest (4.91 - 6 ohms)
- Sport seats (cloth) - cushion (4.6 - 5.63 ohms), backrest (4.6 - 5.63 ohms)
- Recaro seats (partial leather and leather) - cushion (4.14 - 4.73 ohms), backrest (5.9 - 7.21 ohms)
The cushion heater mat is equipped with a temperature sensor (thermistor) which provides feedback to the heated seat module. The minimum/maximum operating range of the temperature sensor is -40° C (-39.9° F) (269K ohms) to 120° C (247.8° F) (311 ohms).
Seat Control Switch
The seat control switch contains normally closed contacts (which are grounded). When a specific adjustment position is selected, an individual circuit is switched to voltage.
Seat Track
The seat track contains 2 bi-directional motors which are integral to the seat track assembly. The seat track motors move the power seat forward/backward and up/down depending on the polarity of voltage supplied from the seat control switch.
Seat Recliner Motor
The seat recliner motor is integral to the backrest assembly and is a bi-directional motor. The seat recliner motor moves the backrest forward/backward depending on the polarity of voltage supplied from the seat control switch.
