Exterior Mirror Control Switch

The exterior mirror control switch is integral to the master window control switch. The exterior mirror control switch provides the driver with the controls to move the LH and RH exterior rear view mirrors left, right, up or down. When the ignition is ON and the exterior mirror control switch button is pressed, the selected mirror is adjusted to the left, right, up or down position, voltage and ground is supplied to the selected exterior mirror motor to move the exterior mirror glass to the desired position. The buttons on the exterior mirror control switch have a indicator to indicate which mirror is selected.

Exterior Mirror

Power mirrors allow the LH or RH exterior mirror glass to be positioned electronically. The position of the power mirror glass is controlled by the exterior mirror control switch. There are 2 bi-directional motors in each mirror that control the up/down and left/right movement of the exterior rear view mirror glass.

LH and RH exterior mirror glass movement is controlled by the exterior mirror control switch, DSM and the LH and RH exterior mirror motors. The exterior mirror control switch sends voltage signals to the DSM. The DSM provides voltage and ground to the appropriate exterior mirror motors to move the selected exterior mirror glass to the desired position.

The memory function recalls the preferred position of the exterior mirrors when the transmission is in PARK or NEUTRAL and the memory set switch, RKE transmitter (without IA) or IA key (with IA) is activated.

The exterior rear view mirror switch is integral to the master window control switch. The exterior mirror control switch provides the driver with the controls to move the LH and RH exterior rear view mirrors left, right, up or down. When the ignition is ON and the exterior mirror control switch button is pressed, the exterior mirror control switch a voltage signal is sent to the DSM to move the selected exterior mirror glass to the desired position.

Memory Set Switch

The memory set switch allows the recall of previously stored positions for the driver. This system allows automatic positioning of the driver seat, power exterior rear view mirrors and power adjustable pedals (if equipped) to 1 of 3 programmable positions. The memory set switch is a momentary ground contact switch that supplies a ground to the DSM. The memory set switch is integral to the driver door lock control switch.

Driver Seat Module (DSM)

The DSM incorporates multiple functions into one module and offers diagnostics to easily locate and repair concerns affecting the subsystems that it controls. The DSM constantly tracks the exterior mirror motor position using potentiometers that are internal to the exterior mirror motors. When a memory position is recalled, the DSM supplies voltage and ground to the exterior mirror motors and monitors the potentiometer circuits. When the stored memory position is reached, the DSM removes the voltage and ground from the motors. If the exterior mirror control switch is operated during a memory recall, the DSM stops the recall and responds to the exterior mirror control switch command. The DSM is capable of setting a DTCs for the memory mirror system when a system concern exists.

Power mirrors allow the LH or RH exterior mirror glass to be positioned electronically. The position of the power mirror glass is controlled by the exterior mirror control switch. There are 2 bi-directional motors in each mirror that control the up/down and left/right movement of the exterior rear view mirror glass.

Each exterior mirror is equipped with a potentiometer. The potentiometer is a 3 wire sensor located internal to the exterior mirror motors, which the DSM uses to monitor the LH and RH exterior mirror motor positions. When a mirror motor position is stored in the DSM, the DSM retains this position in memory for future recall based on the information received from the potentiometer.

HVAC MODULE NETWORK INPUT MESSAGES

The rear window defrost switch controls operation of the heated exterior mirror glass. The heated exterior mirror glass only operates when the rear window defrost system is active. The heated exterior rear view mirror glass deactivates when the rear window defrost deactivates. The heated mirror glass receives voltage from the rear window defrost relay located inside the BJB. The LH and RH heated mirror glass does not share the same ground.

Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) Module

The DATC system uses inputs from the FCIM, FDIM and voice commands to provide the interface for the vehicle occupants to control the climate control system. The system uses a remote HVAC module that is separate from the control interface. When rear window defrost is selected, the FCIM, FDIM or voice command communicates the selections through the CAN to the HVAC module to turn ON the defrost relay.

The optional heated power exterior mirrors are available with heated exterior mirror glass.

The exterior mirror control switch is integral to the master window control switch. The power fold mirror control switch provides the driver with the controls to fold or unfold the driver and passenger mirror. The power fold mirror control switch is integral to the master window control switch. When the ignition is ON and the power fold control switch button is pressed, a signal is sent to the DSM. The DSM then supplies voltage and ground to the power fold motors to fold or unfold the mirrors.

The DSM incorporates multiple functions into one module and offers diagnostics to easily locate and repair concerns affecting the subsystems that it controls. The power folding mirrors are controlled by the DSM. The DSM is capable of setting DTCs for the memory and power folding mirrors when a system concern exists. For additional information on the DSM, REFER to DRIVER SEAT MODULE (DSM) .

Each optional power fold exterior rear view mirror has an internal motor to fold or unfold the mirror that is not replaceable. If a power folding mirror drive motor is found to be inoperative, a new power folding exterior rear view mirror assembly must be installed

The DSM controls the output to the exterior mirrors using solid state drivers. A DTC sets when an overload occurs on any of these drivers. The DSM tracks the number of repetitive faults on each circuit. The DSM compares the number of overloads to 3 progressive thresholds established for each circuit. If the 3 thresholds have not been exceeded, then the DTC of the affected circuit can be cleared by eliminating the fault, then clearing the DTCs and running the self-test. At the point that each of the first 2 thresholds are exceeded, DTC B106E sets along with the DTC relating to the affected circuit. Once the final threshold has been exceeded, the affected output is permanently disabled and DTC B106F sets along with DTC B1342, at which time the DSM must be replaced.

DTC FAULT TRIGGER CONDITIONS

General Procedure

  1. NOTE: This procedure may need to be carried out when the RH, LH or both power folding mirrors are partially folded in toward the door manually, and then folded inward using the power folding mirror control switch. NOTE: Ten or more switch activations within 1 minute, or repeated folding/unfolding of the mirrors while holding the button down during full travel, may cause the system to disable the fold/unfold function to protect motors from overheating. Should this occur, wait approximately 3 minutes with the vehicle running and up to 10 minutes with the vehicle off, for the system to reset and power fold mirror function to return to normal. NOTE: If both mirrors have been manually folded, the mirrors will not operate until a audible click is heard from both mirrors indicating both are re-synchronized. Ignition ON.
  2. Momentarily press the power fold button to activate power fold operation.
  3. An audible "click" will be heard from the power mirrors indicating the RH and LH motors are synchronized together. (If the click is not heard, use the switch to fold the mirrors out, then in, until the click is heard).
  4. Operate the mirrors to verify they are synchronized. If the mirrors are not synchronized, repeat steps 2 and 3.
