ASSEMBLY

  1. Install oil pump rotors. see scheme 159
  2. Install oil pump cover and screws. see scheme 159 Tighten screws to 12 N.m (105 in. lbs.). CAUTION: Oil pump pressure relief valve must be installed as shown in or serious damage may occur. see scheme 158
  3. Install spring and relief valve. see scheme 158
  4. Install threaded plug and gasket to the oil pump. see scheme 158 Tighten plug to 41 N.m (30 ft. lbs.).

  1. Make sure all surfaces are clean and free of oil and dirt.
  2. Apply Mopar® Gasket Maker to oil pump as shown in. (Scheme 166) Install o-ring into oil pump body discharge passage.
  3. Prime oil pump before installation.
  4. Align oil pump rotor flats with flats on crankshaft as you install the oil pump to the block. NOTE: Front crankshaft seal MUST be out of pump to align, or damage may result.
  5. Torque all oil pump attaching bolts to 28 N.m (250 in. lbs.).
  6. Install NEW front crankshaft seal using Special Tool 6780. (Scheme 167) NOTE: Make sure the word "front" on the crankshaft sprocket is facing outward. CAUTION: Use of Special Tool 6792 is required to install the crankshaft sprocket to the proper depth. Failure to use this tool will cause improper timing belt tracking.
  7. Install crankshaft sprocket, using Special Tool 6792. (Scheme 168)
  8. Install oil pick-up tube and oil pan. (Refer to «OIL PAN»(ref-177391-S36411593832005052700000) ).
  9. Install timing belt rear cover and camshaft sprocket. (Refer to «TIMING BELT COVER(S)»(ref-177391-S15538948382005052700000) ).
  10. Install timing belt tensioner assembly. (Refer to «TIMING BELT TENSIONER ASSEMBLY»(ref-177391-S00137886752005052700000) ).
  11. Install timing belt. (Refer to «TIMING BELT AND SPROCKETS»(ref-177391-S13434889052005052700000) ).
  12. Install front timing belt cover. (Refer to «TIMING BELT COVER(S)»(ref-177391-S15538948382005052700000) ).
  13. Fill engine crankcase with proper oil to correct level.
  14. Connect negative cable to battery.
  15. Perform camshaft and crankshaft timing relearn procedure as follows: Connect the DRB III® scan tool to the data link (diagnostic) connector. This connector is located in the passenger compartment; at the lower edge of instrument panel near the steering column. Turn the ignition switch on. Access "Engine" diagnostics. Select "Miscellaneous" option. Select "Re-Learn Cam Crank" option and follow directions on DRBIII® screen.

  2. Remove assembly by unscrewing adaptor fitting. (Scheme 169)
  3. Remove O-ring seal.
