Pre-heater plugs (1160)
Role
The pre-post heating glow plugs allow a rapid temperature rise in the combustion chambers during the starting phase
Description
11 volt pre-heater plugs
Total length of 118,5 mm
Composition of the pre-heat glow plugs
- A heating resistor
- A metallic protective cover
Pre-post heat box (1150)
Role
The housing supplies the pre-heating plugs with electricity following the injection ECU's commands
Description
The pre-post heating times are determined by the injection ECU
If the pre-heater control unit develops a fault, the injection ECU will memorise the fault
Electrical special features
Allocation of channels of connector
- Line N° 1: earth
- Line N° 3: after ignition +12 volts
- Line N° 4: engine check ECU input
- Line N° 5: pre-heater control unit diagnostic
- Line N° 8: permanent +12 volts
- Line N° 9: supply to the glow plugs
Location
The pre-post heating control unit is located on the front LH chassis member behind the main beam headlamp

Pre-postheating
The pre-heating and post-heating times are determined by the ECU in accordance with the engine's cooling liquid's temperature
Pre-heating operation
| engine coolant temperature | pre-heating time (lighting of the warning lamp) |
|---|---|
| - 20 °C | 10 seconds |
| - 10 °C | 5 seconds |
| 5 °C | 0 seconds |
Heating of the pre-heater plugs under starting
During the starting phase, the pre-heater plugs are supplied in the following cases
- Engine coolant temperature lower than 10°C
- Engine running at more than 750 rpm
NoteIf the starter is not operated, when the warning light goes out, the glow plugs remain supplied for a maximum of 13 seconds (at - 25°C)
Postheating operation
The postheating extends the operating of the pre-heater plugs after the starting phase
The post-heating enables the emission of pollutants in the first few minutes after starting to be reduced
The postheating reduces blue exhaust fumes and emissions at altitude
| engine coolant temperature | post-heating duration |
|---|---|
| - 30 °C | 180 seconds |
| 20 °C | 180 seconds |
| 30 °C | 180 seconds |
| 50 °C | 0 seconds |
Parameters which could interrupt post-heating
- Coolant temperature above 50°C
- Injected fuel flow exceeding 30 mm3 (between 1200 and 1500 rpm)
- Injected fuel flow exceeding 10 mm3 (2500 rpm)
- Injected fuel flow exceeding 5 mm3 (330 rpm)
- Engine speed above 3500 rpm
