WarningAfter opening the fuel circuit at the click fit connector: clean and coat with oil the male part of the connector before reconnecting it
WarningAssemblies "b" and "c": after any work requiring the fuel circuit to be opened, pressurising the fuel circuit requires a procedure called "long pre-control" of the fuel pump. refer to chapter: pressurising the fuel supply circuit
Special features
"a" assembly
- The fuel pressure regulator is mounted on the end of the injector supply rail
- The petrol pressure in the injection rail is regulated by the petrol pressure regulator, according to the air pressure in the intake manifold
"b" assembly
- Injection rail without petrol pressure regulator
- The fuel pressure regulator is mounted on the fuel tank
- Injection rail without fuel return
"c" assembly
- Injection rail without petrol pressure regulator
- Fuel pressure regulator incorporated into the sender unit
- Injection rail without fuel return

Inertia switch (1203)
The inertia switch "cuts" the fuel supply in the event of an impact
The inertia switch is reset by pushing the button in its upper section
Booster pump (low pressure) (1210)
Role
Role of the booster pump: to supply the injection rail with fuel
A nonreturn valve, incorporated into the supply pump on the delivery circuit, maintains a residual pressure in the engine fuel system
Description
The fuel pump is submerged in the fuel tank
The fuel pump is supplied with 12 volts by the injection double relay and the inertia switch in the following cases
- As soon as the engine is switched on, for 2 to 3 seconds
- Engine running
Fuel filter
Description
Compiling
- Filter element (made of paper)
- Strainer
The strainer catches any paper scraps from the filtering element
Special features
- Filtration threshold: 8 to 10 micrometres
- Replacement interval: 60 000 kms
WarningRespect the fitting direction indicated by an arrow on the fuel filter's body
Location
The fuel filter is located to the fuel pump delivery pipe
Fuel pressure regulator
Role
The pressure regulator adjusts the pressure of fuel in the injection rail
"a" assembly
The fuel pressure regulator is mounted on the end of the injector supply rail
The petrol pressure in the injection rail is regulated by the petrol pressure regulator, according to the air pressure in the intake manifold
The petrol pressure varies between 2,5 and 3 bars (engine at idling speed; engine at full load)
"b" assembly
The fuel pressure regulator is mounted on the fuel tank
The petrol pressure in the injection rail is regulated by the petrol pressure regulator
Pressure in the petrol injector supply rail
- TU engine: 3,5 bars
- XU engine: 3 bars
"c" assembly
Fuel pressure regulator incorporated into the sender unit
The petrol pressure in the injection rail is regulated by the petrol pressure regulator
Pressure in the petrol injector supply rail
- TU engine: 3,5 bars
- XU engine: 3 bars
Petrol injector supply rail
Role
To supply the petrol injectors with fuel
"a" assembly
The fuel pressure regulator is mounted on the end of the injector supply rail
Fuel return circuit
Assemblies "b" and "c"
Injection rail without fuel return
Petrol injectors (1331, 1332, 1333, 1334)
Role
The injectors allow the quantity of fuel to be measured out
Function
Operation of the injectors at each electrical impulse
- The injector's needle is lifted from its seat
- The pressurised fuel is sprayed upstream of the valve seat
Function: "semi-sequential" injection
The injectors are controlled by pairs on cylinders N° 1 - 4, then on cylinders N° 3 - 2, just before the intake phases
Function: "sequential" injection
The injectors are operated separately in the firing order (1 - 3 - 4 - 2), just before the intake phase
Electrical special features
Control: injection ECU
Data
- Supply voltage: 12V
- Resistance: ð 14,5 ohms
