Automatic Transmission Range Selector Cable Adjustment
- Ensure that the steering column shift lever and the transmission manual shaft lever are in the park position.
- Raise the vehicle. Refer to «Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle»(ref-187824-S17690437682005090100000) in General Information.
- Pull back the white plastic cover (1) on the center connector.
- Pull up on the center tabs of the lock button (2).
- Release the shift cable end (2) and allow the blue spring to tension/adjust the shift cable system.
- Pull the white cover (3) on the shift cable end (1) back.
- Push the natural colored lock button (2) down to engage the locking teeth on the shift cable end (1).
- Release the white cover (1).
- Verify the white cover (1) conceals the natural colored lock (2).
- If the white cover (1) does not conceal the natural colored lock (2), the shift cable must be readjusted.
- Test the transmission for proper shift operation.
- If all of the gear positions cannot be achieved, the shift cable must be readjusted.
Park/Neutral Position Switch Adjustment
| IMPORTANT | The following procedure is for vehicles that have not had the switch removed or replaced. If the switch has been removed or replaced, refer to Park/Neutral Position Switch Replacement for the proper adjustment procedure. Apply the parking brake. The engine must start in the P (Park) or N (Neutral) positions only. Check the switch for proper operation. If adjustment is required, proceed as follows |
- Place the transmission range selector in the N (Neutral) position.
- With an assistant in the drivers seat, raise the vehicle. Refer to «Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle»(ref-187824-S17690437682005090100000) in General Information.
- Loosen the park/neutral position switch mounting bolts.
- With the vehicle in the N (Neutral) position, rotate the switch while the assistant attempts to start the engine.
- Following a successful start, turn the engine off.
- Tighten the bolts securing the switch to the transmission. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Check the switch for proper operation. The engine must start in the P (Park) or N (Neutral) positions only.
- Replace the park/neutral position switch if proper operation can not be achieved. Refer to «Park/Neutral Position Switch Replacement»(ref-187837-S04130436132005090100000) .
