Removing
| WARNING | Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to GENERAL INFORMATION . Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must discharge static electricity. For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin. |
Turn on the ignition.
Disconnect the battery ground cable from the battery with the ignition on. Refer to [For engine(s) CAEB, CALA, CCBA] Removal and Installation .
Remove the front seat
- Standard seat and sport seat (manual). Refer to «MANUAL STANDARD FRONT SEAT»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/seats/#seat-frames-sedan__manual-standard-front-seat) .
Attach the front seat to the VAS 6136. Refer to FRONT SEATS, INSTALLING ON THE Fixture For Seat RepairVAS 6136 .
Remove backrest panel
- Two section backrest cover. Refer to «BACKREST COVER (SECTION TWO)»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/seats/#seat-frames-sedan__backrest-cover-section-two) .
- One section backrest cover. Refer to «BACKREST COVER (SECTION ONE)»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/seats/#seat-frames-sedan__backrest-cover-section-one) .
Remove the headrests. Refer to HEADRESTS WITH LOCKING MECHANISM .
Remove cover with upholstery. Refer to BACKREST COVER AND PADDING .
Remove the springs -A through D- from the backrest frame -1-.

Note. The pull-springs -A through D- can also stay engaged in the backrest frame -1- and the spring mat -2- can be disengaged directly from the pull-springs.
Tip spring mat -2- forward.

Remove the spring mat out of the openings -arrows- for the backrest frame -1-.
Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following
Label the springs -A through D- as shown in the illustration.
| WARNING | Connect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery. |
Connect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on. Refer to [For engine(s) CAEB, CALA, CCBA] Removal and Installation .
Note. If the airbag indicator lamp -K75- indicates a fault after installation, the DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
