Cruise Control Input Test
Note. Always make sure that you have the latest HDS software.
- Connect the HDS to the DLC (see «GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/testing-diagnostics/#fuel-and-emissions-systems-v6) ).
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Make sure the HDS communicates with the vehicle and the PCM. If it does not communicate, troubleshoot the DLC circuit (see «DLC CIRCUIT TROUBLESHOOTING»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/testing-diagnostics/#pgm-fi-system-v6__dlc-circuit-troubleshooting) ).
- Check for and troubleshoot any DTCs (see «GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/testing-diagnostics/#fuel-and-emissions-systems-v6) ).
- Do the following tests while monitoring parameters in the PGM-FI DATA LIST with the HDS.
- If the input tests prove OK, replace the PCM (see «PCM REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/testing-diagnostics/#pgm-fi-system-v6__pcm-replacement) ).
Note. Intermittent failures are often caused by loose circuit connections. While monitoring cruise control inputs, flex the circuit wires, and note if any of the test results change.
| Signal to be tested | Test condition | Parameter: Desired result | Possible cause if result is not obtained |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cruise control system switch status | Cruise control combination switch buttons are not pressed | CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM SWITCH STATUS in the HDS data list should indicate DEFAULT when the cruise control combination switch buttons are not pressed. | If the CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM SWITCH STATUS in the HDS data list indicates SIGNAL LOST, check as shown. Check for DTCs in the PGM-FI system and do the appropriate troubleshooting Faulty gauge control module An open in the wire between the gauge control module and the cruise control combination switch A short to power in the wire between the gauge control module and the cruise control combination switch when the illumination switch is turned on If the CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM SWITCH STATUS in the HDS data list indicates SIGNAL SHORT, check as shown. Check for DTCs in the PGM-FI system and do the appropriate troubleshooting Faulty gauge control module Faulty cruise control combination switch A short to ground in the wire between the gauge control module and the cruise control combination switch If the CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM SWITCH STATUS in the HDS data list indicates a different status, check for a faulty cruise control combination switch. |
| Cruise control main button is pressed | CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM SWITCH STATUS in the HDS data list should indicate MAIN SW when the cruise control main button is pressed. | ||
| Cancel button is pressed | CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM SWITCH STATUS in the HDS data list should indicate CANCEL SW when the cancel button is pressed. | ||
| Decel/set button is pressed | CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM SWITCH STATUS in the HDS data list should indicate SET SW when the decel/set button is pressed. | ||
| Res/accel button is pressed | CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM SWITCH STATUS in the HDS data list should indicate RESUME SW when the res/accel button is pressed. | ||
| Brake pedal position switch signal | Brake pedal pressed, then released | CRUISE BRAKE SW/IDLE STOP SW should indicate OPEN when the brake pedal is pressed and CLOSE when the brake pedal is released. | Faulty cruise control combination switch Blown No. 7 (15 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box An open in the wire between the PCM and the brake pedal position switch A wire shorted to ground or power between the PCM and the brake pedal position switch |
| Cruise control indicator signal | Start the engine, press the cruise control main button on and drive the vehicle above 25 mph (40 km/h) with the cruise control set and cancel the cruise control | CRUISE INDICATOR should indicate ON when the cruise control is set and OFF when the cruise control is cancelled. | Faulty gauge control module Faulty cruise control combination switch An open in the wire between the gauge control module and the cruise control combination switch A wire shorted to ground between the gauge control module and the cruise control combination switch |

- Remove the driver's airbag (see «DRIVER'S AIRBAG REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/airbag/#srs-supplemental-restraint-system-v6__drivers-airbag-replacement) ).
- Remove the steering trim (see «STEERING WHEEL DISASSEMBLY/REASSEMBLY»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/manual-power-steering/#steering-v6) ).
- Remove the select/reset/information switch (A), then remove the cruise control combination switch (B).
- Measure the resistance between cruise control combination switch 12P connector terminal No. 6 and No. 12 according to the table. NOTE: If there is no resistance in one or more positions, replace the cruise control combination switch. 12P CONNECTOR TERMINAL TABLE Position Resistance OFF About 2.2 kohms Cruise control main (PRESSED) About 60 ohms Cancel (PRESSED) About 190 ohms Decel/set (PRESSED) About 450 ohms Res/accel (PRESSED) About 900 ohms
- Check for continuity between cruise control combination switch 12P connector terminal No. 3 and No. 9 according to the table. NOTE: If there is no continuity, replace the cruise control combination switch. (Scheme 5): Checking Continuity Between Cruise Control Combination Switch 12P Connector Terminal No. 3 And No. 9
- Install the cruise control combination switch in the reverse order of removal.
