Front Door Panel Removal/Installation
Special Tools Required
- KTC trim tool set SOJATP2014 *
- Trim pad remover, Snap-on A 177A or equivalent, commercially available

Note. Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when prying components.

- Using a trim tool, push on the bottom hook (A) and pivot the cover (B) on the upper hooks (C), then detach the front hook (D), and then remove the cover and the screw securing the inner handle (E).
- Using a trim tool, pull the top edge of the pocket light cover (A) out to release the hooks (B), and release the hooks (C, D), then remove the cover, and then remove the screw.
- Using a trim tool, pry out the notch (A) of the grip cover (B) to detach the hook (C), and then pull out the cover to release the remaining hooks (D), then remove the cover from the grip (E).
- Remove the door panel (A) with as little bending as possible to avoid creasing or breaking it. Release the clips (B, C) that hold the door panel with a commercially available trim pad remover. While holding the door panel away from the door, disconnect the door subharness connector (D) and the power mirror connector (E). While holding the door panel away from the door, remove the screws (F), then remove the inner handle (G) from the door panel. NOTE: The inner handle cable (H) and the lock cable (I) are connected to the door panel. Do not pull the door panel up too far, or the inner handle cable will be damaged.
- Replace all of the door panel clips with new ones.
- If necessary, remove the door glass inner weatherstrip (A) from the door by pulling it up.
- Remove the Velcro fastener (A) from the inner handle (B), and then disconnect the lock cable (C) from the joint bushing (D). Disconnect the inner handle cable (E) from the joint bushing (F), then remove the inner handle. NOTE: Check the bushing for damage, and replace if necessary.
- Disconnect the power window switch connector (A) and the seat position memory switch connector (B).
- Remove the screws, then remove the grip/armrest (A) and the wood trim (B) from the door panel (C).
- Remove the screws (A, B), then separate the door grip (C), the armrest (D), the power window switch panel (E), the grip bracket (F), and the power window switch (G).
- Install the door panel in the reverse order of removal, and note these items: Replace any damaged cable fasteners with new ones. Make sure the connectors are plugged in properly, and the cable is connected properly. When reinstalling the door panel, make sure the plastic cover is installed properly and sealed around its outside perimeter to seal out water. When replacing, the latch cable (A) should be fixed to the cable fastener (B) with the latch in lock position as shown. Make sure the window and power door lock operate properly.
Front Door Outer Handle Replacement

- Raise the glass fully.
- Remove the door panel (see «FRONT DOOR PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/rl/ii-2004-2008/remont/exterior-body-panels/#doors__front-door-panel-removalinstallation) ).
- Disconnect the latch actuator connector (A) and remove the cap (B), and then remove the plastic cover (C) as needed.
- Pull the glass run channel (A) away as needed, and remove the bolt, then remove the center lower channel (B) by pulling it downward.
- Remove the access cap (A). Using a clip remover, disconnect the outer handle rod (B) from the outer handle.
- Replace the bushing (C) with a new one on the outer handle. NOTE: Do not reuse the bushing when you disconnect the outer handle rod.
- Driver's door: While holding the flange portion (A) of the outer casing cover (B), pull out the retainer (C), and pull the lock cylinder cable (D) away from the latch actuator (E).
- While holding the outer handle cover (A) from out side of the door, loosen the bolt, and then release the hooks (B) of the outer handle cover, then remove the cover and the lock cylinder (C) (driver's door) or the outer handle holder (passenger's door) from the outer handle base (D).
- If the retainer (A) of the lock cylinder cable (B) is damaged, release the hooks (C), then replace it.
- Disconnect the outer handle light connector (A).
- Pull the outer handle (A) out, and back as shown to remove it from the door. Take care not to scratch the door.
- Release the hooks (A, B, C), then remove the outer handle front seal (D) and the outer handle rear seal (E).
- Remove the outer handle base (A). Loosen the nut. Release the tab (B), and slide the outer handle base forward to release the special bolt (C) from the door panel. Detach the connector clip (D) and harness clip (E) from the outer handle base.
- Remove the joint bushing (A) from the outer handle (B), then replace it with a new one.
- Install the handle in the reverse order of removal, and note these items: Reinstall the lock cylinder (driver's door) or the outer handle holder (passenger's door) before installing the outer handle cover. Make sure the outer handle light connector is plugged in properly, and the outer handle rod and the lock cylinder cable (driver's door) are connected securely. Make sure the door lock cylinder/door locks operate properly (driver's door). Make sure the door handle works properly. When reinstalling the door panel, make sure the plastic cover is installed properly and sealed around its outside perimeter to seal out water.
Front Door Latch Replacement
Note. Put on gloves to protect your hands.

- Raise the glass fully.
- Remove the door panel (see «FRONT DOOR PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/rl/ii-2004-2008/remont/exterior-body-panels/#doors__front-door-panel-removalinstallation) ).
- Disconnect the latch actuator connector, then remove the plastic cover as needed (see step 3 ).
- Remove the center lower channel (see step 4 ).
- Disconnect the outer handle rod (see step 5 ).
- Disconnect the lock cylinder cable from the latch (see step 7 ).
- Remove the latch (A). Disconnect the connector (B). Remove the screws (C, D). Detach the harness clip (E) to release the wire harness from the door. Pass the lock cable (F) and the inner handle cable (G) through the space between the door and the wire harness, then remove the latch through the hole in the door. Take care not to kink the cables.
- Remove the screw, and remove the latch protector (A), then disconnect the latch cable (B) and inner handle cable (C).
- Install the latch in the reverse order of removal, and note these items: Make sure the actuator connectors are plugged in properly, and outer handle rod and lock cylinder cable are connected securely. Make sure the door locks and opens properly. When reinstalling the door panel, make sure the plastic cover is installed properly and sealed around its outside perimeter to prevent water leaks.
Front Door Glass and Regulator Replacement

- Carefully raise the glass (A) until you can see the bolts through the oval holes in the door, then remove them. Carefully pull the glass out through the window slot. Take care not to drop the glass inside the door.
- Disconnect the connector (A) from the regulator (B).
- Remove the bolts (C), and loosen the bolts (D), then remove the regulator through the hole in the door.
- Apply multipurpose grease to the sliding surfaces of the regulator (A) where shown.
- Install the glass and regulator in the reverse order of removal, and note these items: Roll the glass up and down to see if it moves freely without binding. Make sure that there is no clearance between the glass and glass run channel when the glass is closed. Adjust the position of the glass as necessary (see «FRONT AND REAR DOOR GLASS ADJUSTMENT»(/acura/rl/ii-2004-2008/remont/exterior-body-panels/#doors__front-and-rear-door-glass-adjustment) ). Check for water leaks (see step 7 ). Test-drive and check for wind noise and rattles. When reinstalling the door panel, make sure the plastic cover is installed properly and sealed around its outside perimeter to prevent water leaks. Make sure the power door locks, windows, and power mirror operate properly. Do the power window control unit reset procedure (see «RESETTING THE POWER WINDOW CONTROL UNIT»(/acura/rl/ii-2004-2008/remont/windows/#power-windows__resetting-the-power-window-control-unit) ).
Front Door Sash Inner Trim Replacement
Note. Take care not to scratch the door.

- Remove the door panel (see «FRONT DOOR PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/rl/ii-2004-2008/remont/exterior-body-panels/#doors__front-door-panel-removalinstallation) ).
- Disconnect the tweeter connector (A), and then detach it from the door.
- Using a clip remover, detach the clips (A, B) fastening the front door sash inner trim (C).
- Pull the door glass opening side of the trim back to release the hooks (D, E) from the door glass opening flange of the door sash.
- Install the trim in the reverse order of removal, and note these items: Check if the clips are damaged or stress-whitened, and if necessary, replace them with new ones. Push the hooks and clips into place securely.
Front Door Sash Outer Trim Replacement
Note. Take care not to scratch the door.

- Lower the glass fully.
- Remove the door sash outer trim (A). Pull back the door weatherstrip (B), then remove the upper screw (C). Pull back the door weatherstrip, then loosen the middle and bottom screws (D, E). Lower the trim, and then release the middle and bottom screws from the holes (F) in the door. Pull the trim up to release the hook (G) from the door. Take care not to damage the door glass outer weatherstrip (H).
- Install the trim in the reverse order of removal, and make sure the glass run channel (I) is installed in the door sash securely.
Front Door Glass Outer Weatherstrip Replacement
Note. Put on gloves to protect your hands. The door glass outer weatherstrip will need replacement because it will bend during removal. Take care not to scratch the door.

- Install a new weatherstrip in the reverse order of removal, and push it into place securely.
Front Door Subseal Replacement
Note. Put on gloves to protect your hands. Take care not to scratch the door. Use a clip remover to remove the clips.

- Detach the clips (A, B), then remove the lower subseal (C).

- Detach the clips, then remove the upper subseal (A) from the front edge of the door.
- Pull the upper subseal (A) away from the upper portion of the door sash flange (B), then remove the subseal.
- Install the subseal in the reverse order of removal, and these items: Check if the clips are damaged or stress-whitened, and if necessary, replace them with new ones. Make sure the subseal is installed in the door flange securely. Push the clips into place securely. Check for water leaks (see step 7 ).
Front Door Weatherstrip Replacement
Note. Put on gloves to protect your hands. Take care not to scratch the door. Use a clip remover to remove the clips.

- At the A-pillar, remove the door checker bracket cover (A), then remove the door checker mounting bolt (B).
- Detach the clips (C, D), then remove the door weatherstrip (E).
- Install the weatherstrip in the reverse order of removal, and note these items: Check if the clips are damaged or stress-whitened, and if necessary, replace them with new ones. Make sure the weatherstrip is installed in the holder (F) securely. Apply liquid thread lock to the door checker mounting bolt before installation. Check for water leaks (see step 7 ).
Rear Door Panel Removal/Installation

While holding the door panel away from the door, disconnect the door subharness connector (D) and the power window switch connector (E). While holding the door panel away from the door, remove the screws (F), then remove the inner handle (G) from the door panel. NOTE: The inner handle cable (H) and the lock cable (I) are connected to the door panel. Do not pull the door panel up too far, or the inner handle cable will be damaged.
- Remove the remaining clips from the door. Using a clip remover, remove the clips (A). Put on gloves to protect your hands. Use a knife, cut the boss (B) of the clip (C). Push the clip, and then pull it away.
- Replace all of the door panel clips with new ones.
- If necessary, remove the door glass inner weatherstrip (A) from the door by pulling it up.
- Remove the Velcro fastener (A) from the inner handle (B), and then disconnect the lock cable (C) from the joint bushing (D). Disconnect the inner handle cable (E) from the joint bushing (F), then remove the inner handle. NOTE: Check the bushing for damage, and replace if necessary.
- Disconnect the ashtray light connector (A).
- Remove the screws, then remove the grip/armrest (A) from the door panel (B).
- Remove the screws (A, B), then separate the door grip (C), the armrest (D), the power window switch panel (E), the grip bracket (F), and the power window switch (G).
- Install the door panel in the reverse order of removal, and note these items: Replace any damaged cable fasteners with new ones. Before reinstalling the door panel, install the clips. When reinstalling the door panel, make sure the plastic cover is installed properly and sealed around its outside perimeter to seal out water. When replacing, the latch cable (A) should be fixed to the cable fastener (B) with the latch in lock position as shown. Make sure the connector is plugged in properly, and the cable is connected properly. Make sure the window and power door lock operate properly.
Rear Door Outer Handle Replacement

- Pull the outer handle (A) out, and back as shown to remove it from the door. Take care not to scratch the door.
- Release the hooks (A, B, C), then remove the outer handle front seal (D) and the outer handle rear seal (E).
- Remove the outer handle base (A). Loosen the nut. Release the tab (B), and slide the outer handle base forward to release the special bolt (C) from the door panel.
- Install the handle in the reverse order of removal, and note these items: Reinstall the outer handle holder before installing the outer handle cover. Make sure the outer handle rod is connected securely. Make sure the door lock operates properly. Make sure the door handle works properly. When reinstalling the door panel, make sure the plastic cover is installed properly and sealed around its outside perimeter to prevent water leaks.
Rear Door Latch Replacement

- Remove the screw, and remove the latch protector (A), then disconnect the latch cable (B) and inner handle cable (C).
- Install the latch in the reverse order of removal, and note these items: Make sure the actuator connectors are plugged in properly, and the outer handle rod is connected securely. Make sure the door locks and opens properly. When reinstalling the door panel, make sure the plastic cover is installed properly and sealed around its outside perimeter to prevent water leaks.
Rear Door Glass, Quarter Glass, and Regulator Replacement

- Remove the screws, then remove the door ashtray bracket (A). Disconnect the latch actuator connector (B), and remove the cap (C), and then remove the plastic cover (D).
- Carefully move the glass (A) until you can see the bolts through the oval holes in the door, then remove them.
- Pull the glass run channel (A) away as needed, then remove the screw (B). Remove the bolts (C, D) securing the center channel (E), then remove the collar (F).
- Pull the upper portion of the center channel (A) forward to remove it from the door quarter glass seal (B).
- Pull the door weatherstrip (A), and remove the screw, then remove the quarter glass (B). Take care not to damage the outer weatherstrip (C).
- Carefully remove the glass (A) through the window slot. Take care not to drop the glass inside the door.
- Disconnect the connector (A) from the regulator (B).
- Remove the bolts (C), and loosen the bolts (D), then remove the regulator through the hole in the door.
- Apply multipurpose grease to all the sliding surfaces of the regulator (A) where shown.
- Install the glass and regulator in the reverse order of removal, and note these items: Special corrosion-resistant bolts are used in this area. The use of any other type of hardware may result in accelerated corrosion. Roll the glass up and down to see if it moves freely without binding. Make sure that there is no clearance between the glass and glass run channel when the glass is closed. Adjust the position of the glass as necessary (see «FRONT AND REAR DOOR GLASS ADJUSTMENT»(/acura/rl/ii-2004-2008/remont/exterior-body-panels/#doors__front-and-rear-door-glass-adjustment) ). Reset the power window control unit (see «RESETTING THE POWER WINDOW CONTROL UNIT»(/acura/rl/ii-2004-2008/remont/windows/#power-windows__resetting-the-power-window-control-unit) ). - Detach the clips (A, B, C), then remove the upper subseal (D) from the front edge of the door.
- Pull the upper subseal (A) away from the roof portion of the door flange (B), then remove the subseal.
- Install the subseal in the reverse order of removal, and note these items: Check if the clips are damaged or stress-whitened, and if necessary, replace them with new ones. Make sure the subseal is installed in the door flange securely. Check for water leaks (see step 7 ).
Rear Door Weatherstrip Replacement
Note. Take care not to scratch the door. Use a clip remover to remove the clips.

- At the B-pillar, remove the door checker bracket cover (A), then remove the door checker mounting bolt (B).
- Detach the clips (C, D), then remove the door weatherstrip (E).
- Install the weatherstrip in the reverse order of removal, and note these items: Check if the clips are damaged or stress-whitened, and if necessary, replace them with new ones. Make sure the weatherstrip is installed in the holder (F) securely. Apply liquid thread lock to the door checker mounting bolt before installation. Check for water leaks (see step 7 ).
Front and Rear Door Glass Adjustment
Note. Check the weatherstrips and glass run channel for damage or deterioration, and replace them if necessary. Wipe the run channel clean with a shop towel. Lubricate the run channel with Shin-Etsu silicone grease P/N 08798-9013.

- Place the vehicle on a firm, level surface.
- Remove these items: Door panel, front door (see «FRONT DOOR PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/rl/ii-2004-2008/remont/exterior-body-panels/#doors__front-door-panel-removalinstallation) ), rear door (see «REAR DOOR PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/rl/ii-2004-2008/remont/exterior-body-panels/#doors__rear-door-panel-removalinstallation) ) Plastic cover, front door (see step 3 ), rear door (see step 2 )
- Carefully move the glass (A) until you can see the glass mounting bolts (B), then loosen them. Front door Rear door
- Push the glass against the channel (C), then tighten the glass mounting bolts.
- Make sure that the glass moves smoothly.
- Raise the glass fully, and check for gaps. Also check that the glass (A) contacts the glass run channel (B) evenly.
- Check for water leaks. Run water over the roof and on the sealing area as shown, and note these items: Use a 12 mm (1/2 in.) diameter hose (A). Adjust the rate of water flow as shown (B). Do not use a nozzle. Hold the hose about 300 mm (12 in.) away from the door (C).
- Attach the plastic cover making sure it is sealed around its outside perimeter to seal out water, install the door panel, front door (see step 11 ), rear door (see step 12 ).
Front and Rear Door Position Adjustment
SRS components are located in the B-pillar bottom area. Review the SRS component locations (see COMPONENT LOCATION INDEX ) and the precautions and procedures (see PRECAUTIONS AND PROCEDURES ) before doing repairs or service.
Note. Check for a flush fit with the body, then check for equal gaps between the front, rear, and bottom door edges and the body. Check that the door and body edges are parallel.

- Place the vehicle on a firm, level surface when adjusting the doors.
- Adjust at the hinges (A): Place a shop towel (B) on the jack (C) to prevent damage to the door when adjusting it. On the front door: Remove the front inner fender (see «FRONT INNER FENDER REPLACEMENT»(/acura/rl/ii-2004-2008/remont/exterior-body-panels/#fenderwell__front-inner-fender-replacement) ) and front fender fairing (see «FRONT FENDER FAIRING REPLACEMENT»(/acura/rl/ii-2004-2008/remont/exterior-body-panels/#fenderwell) ). Loosen the hinge mounting bolts (D) slightly, and move the door backward or forward. On the rear door: Remove the B-pillar lower trim (see «B-PILLAR LOWER TRIM»(/acura/rl/ii-2004-2008/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim__b-pillar-lower-trim) ) and remove the front seat belt and retractor (see «FRONT SEAT BELT REPLACEMENT»(/acura/rl/ii-2004-2008/remont/restraints-control-systems/#seat-belts__front-seat-belt-replacement) ), and the plug seal from the body. Loosen the hinge mounting nuts (E) slightly, and move the door backward or forward, up or down as necessary to equalize the gaps. Front door Rear door
- If necessary, replace the door mounting bolts with the adjusting bolts (P/N 90102-SFA-305) made specifically for door adjustment, then adjust at the door: Loosen the door mounting bolts (F) slightly, and move the door up or down as necessary to equalize the gaps, and in or out until it's flush with the body.
- Make sure that the door and body edges are parallel. If necessary, adjust the door cushion (A) to make the rear of the doors flush with the body.
- Apply touch-up paint to the hinge mounting bolts, and around the hinges.
- Check for water leaks (see step 7 ).
Front and Rear Door Striker Adjustment
Make sure the door latches securely without slamming it. If necessary, adjust the striker (A): The striker nuts are fixed, but the striker can be adjusted slightly up or down, and in or out.

- Release the hooks (B), then remove the striker trim (C).
- Loosen but do not remove the screws (A).
- Wrap the striker (B) with a shop towel, then adjust the striker by tapping it with a plastic hammer (C). Do not hit the striker too hard.
- Lightly tighten the screws.
- Hold the outer handle out, and push the door against the body to be sure the striker allows a flush fit. If the door latches properly, tighten the screws and recheck.
- Install the striker trim.
