IGNITION SYSTEM
- Only the components which specifically relate to the ignition system are dealt with here.
- For trouble free operation of the electrical components a voltage of at least 11.5 volts is necessary.
- It is possible that the control module will recognize a malfunction and store a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) during some tests. After completing all tests and repairs, check the DTC memory and erase it if necessary. Refer to "Guided Function" in the vehicle diagnostic tester.
- If the engine only starts briefly and then turns off again after troubleshooting, repairs or checking of the components, it may be that the immobilizer is blocking the Engine Control Module (ECM). The ECM may have to then be adapted. Refer to "Guided Functions" in the vehicle diagnostic tester.
IGNITION COILS WITH POWER OUTPUT STAGES
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Puller for Ignition Coil T10095 A
- Assembly Tool T10118
- Special Lubricant G 052 141 A2
Removing
Scheme 10
Remove the ignition coil wiring harness cover strip.
Place the assembly tool T10118 on the locking button -arrow- and carefully pull the connector up.
Scheme 11
Slide on the puller for ignition coil T10095 A from the straight side of the connector, in the -direction of the arrow- and pull out the ignition coil with power output stage.
Scheme 12
Installing
Note. The ignition coils with power output stages must be greased with special lubricant G 052 141 A2 to install the new spark plugs. This prevents the sealing hose on the ignition coil from sticking on the spark plug. The lubricating paste must spread onto the spark pug when installing the ignition coil. New ignition coils with power output stages are already greased when delivered.
Apply a thin bead of special lubricant G 052 141 A2 around the ignition sealing hose -arrow-. The bead must be 1 to 2 mm thick.
Scheme 13
To install, insert the ignition coil with power output stage into the corresponding spark plug bore so that the straight connector sides align with each other -arrows-.
Scheme 14
Slide on the puller for ignition coil T10095 A from the straight connector side in the -direction of the arrow- and press the ignition coil with power output stage onto the spark plug.
