SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

  1. POWER WINDOW CONTROL SYSTEM DESCRIPTION The power window control system controls the power window operation using the power window regulator motors. The main controls of this system are the power window regulator master switch, which is mounted on the driver side door, and the power window regulator switches, which are mounted on the passenger side door and rear doors. Operating a window switch results in electrical power being transmitted to the corresponding power window regulator motor. The power window control system has the following functions: FUNCTION OUTLINE Function Outline Manual up-and-down function Function that causes window to go up while power window switch is being pulled halfway up and to go down while pushed halfway down Window stops as soon as the switch is released Driver's door auto up-and-down function Function that enables window of driver's door to be fully opened or closed by one press of power window switch Jam protection function Function that automatically stops power window and moves it downward if a foreign object gets jammed in door window during auto-up operation (driver door). Remote control function Function that allows power window master switch to control MANUAL up-and-down operations of front passenger door window and rear door windows Key-off operation function Function that makes it possible to operate power window for approximately 45 seconds after the ignition switch is turned on (IG) or off, if either front door is not opened Diagnosis Function that allows power window switch to make a diagnosis for failed section when power window switch detects a malfunction in power window system Power window switch light comes on or blinks to inform driver Fail-safe A fail-safe function to disable a part of power window functions if pulse sensor in power window motor has a malfunction Driver's door auto up-and-down function and remote control function are disabled

DESCRIPTION

The portion of the power window control system that is located in the driver door consists of a power window master switch, regulator, and a motor with an integrated ECU. The driver door power window regulator motor is controlled by the ECU when the power window master switch is operated (models with jam protection).

DTC B2311 is set when the ECU for the driver door power window regulator motor assembly malfunctions.

Note. The power window control system uses a serial communication protocol (LIN) to communicate with the main body ECU. Inspect the communication function by following HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING. Troubleshoot the power window control system after confirming that the communication system is functioning properly.

HINT

  1. Initialization is required only when the power window regulator motor is replaced. However, replacing the motor may cause the motor gear to be engaged in a different position. This can cause a difference to exist between the current door glass position and the position memorized in the ECU. In this case, the jam protection function may work improperly. Return the system to the pre-initialized condition and reinitialize the system.
  2. To return the system to the pre-initialized condition: Disconnect the power window regulator motor connector during power window operation. This will return the motor to the pre-initialized condition.

DTC DETECTION CONDITION AND TROUBLE AREA

The portion of the power window control system that is located in the driver door consists of a power window master switch, regulator, and a motor with an integrated ECU. The driver door power window regulator motor is controlled by the ECU when the power window master switch is operated (models with jam protection).

When the ECU determines that the power window master switch is stuck, DTC B2312 is set.

Note. The power window control system uses a serial communication protocol (LIN) to communicate with the main body ECU. Inspect the communication function by following HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING. Troubleshoot the power window control system after confirming that the communication system is functioning properly.

  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT Turn the ignition switch off. Wait for at least 10 seconds, and then turn the ignition switch on (IG). Check whether the DTC output recurs. When the ECU determines that the driver's door power window regulator motor assembly has not been initialized, DTC B2313 is set.

Note. The power window control system uses a serial communication protocol (LIN) to communicate with the main body ECU. Inspect the communication function by following HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING. Troubleshoot the power window control system after confirming that the communication system is functioning properly.

HINT

  1. Replacing the door glass or door glass run may cause a difference to exist between the current door glass position and the position memorized in the ECU. In this case, the jam protection function may work improperly. Return the system to the pre-initialized condition and reinitialize the system.

With the ignition switch on (IG), the power window regulator master switch transmits remote switch signals to the regulator switch of the passenger door power window. Then, the regulator switch drives the passenger power window regulator motor.

  1. CHECK POWER WINDOW MASTER SWITCH Turn the window lock switch OFF and operate the switches on the master switch. Check that the remote UP / DOWN function operates normally. OK: Remote UP / DOWN function operates normally. NG: Go to step 2 OK: END

If the manual UP/DOWN and AUTO DOWN functions do not operate, a malfunction may exist in the power window master switch, power window regulator motor or wire harness.

NOTE: Match the arrow mark of the probe with the direction of the current flow. Fully close the door glass by pressing the power window UP switch. Wait for approximately 60 seconds. Continue to press the power window UP switch and measure how long it takes for the electrical current to change from a range of 16 to 28 A to approximately 1 A (Inspection of current shut-off). Standard: 4 to 90 seconds 60 seconds after the previous step, press the power window DOWN switch (passenger side). OK: The passenger side window goes down. NG: REPLACE POWER WINDOW REGULATOR MOTOR ASSEMBLY (FRONT PASSENGER SIDE) (See «REMOVAL»(ref-290721-S08640092362008071700000) ) OK: Go to next step.
  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (MASTER SWITCH - SWITCH (FRONT PASSENGER SIDE)) Disconnect the M1 and G7 connectors. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. When the AUTO UP/DOWN does not function, the power window control system may be in fail-safe mode. If the system has not been initialized after replacement of the driver door power window regulator motor, it also results in the same problem.

Note. The power window control system uses a multiplex communication system (LIN). Inspect the communication function by following HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING. Troubleshoot the power window control system after confirming that the communication system is functioning properly. When the power window regulator motor assembly (on the driver side) is reinstalled or replaced, the power window control system must be initialized. After a door glass or a door glass run has been replaced, the jam protection function may operate unexpectedly when the AUTO UP function is used. In such cases, the AUTO UP function can be resumed by repeating the following operation at least 5 times: Close the power window by fully pulling up the power window switch and holding it in the AUTO UP position. Open the power window by fully pushing down the switch.

HINT

If the pulse sensor built into the power window regulator motor assembly (on the driver side) malfunctions, the power window control system enters fail-safe mode. The remote UP/DOWN and AUTO UP/DOWN functions cannot be operated during fail-safe mode. (However, the power window can be closed by holding the power window switch at the AUTO UP position, and opened manually by pushing down the switch.)

When the driver door has not been opened and fully closed, each door power window regulator motor can control its power window operation for approximately 45 seconds after the ignition switch is turned from on (IG) to off (the key is removed) by receiving operation permission signals from the main body ECU. However, when approximately 45 seconds have elapsed, or the driver door or front passenger side door is opened within approximately 45 seconds of the ignition switch being turned off (the key is removed), the power window regulator motor stops operating.

During AUTO function operation, the window operation will continue until complete even if 45 seconds have passed or a door is opened.

Note. The power window control system uses a multiplex communication system (LIN). Inspect the communication function by following HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING. Troubleshoot the power window control system after confirming that the communication system is functioning properly. The power window control system prohibits the AUTO UP / DOWN function when the jam protection function malfunctions. Therefore, troubleshoot the power window control system after confirming that no diagnostic codes are displayed.

The driver door power window regulator motor is activated by operating the power window regulator master switch. The driver door power window regulator motor has motor, regulator and ECU functions. DTC B2311 is set when the main body ECU determines that the driver door power window regulator motor malfunctions.

  1. INSPECT BACK DOOR GLASS (DEFOGGER WIRE) NOTE: When cleaning the glass, wipe the glass along the wire using a soft, dry cloth. Take care not to damage the defogger wires. Do not use detergents or glass cleaners that have abrasive ingredients. When measuring voltage, wrap a piece of tin foil around the tip of the negative (-) tester probe and press the foil against the wire with your finger as shown below. Turn the ignition switch on (IG). Turn the defogger switch ON. Measure the voltage at the center of each defogger wire as shown below. Standard voltage VOLTAGE SPECIFICATION TABLE Voltage Criteria Approx. 5 V Wire is not broken Approx. 10 or 0 V Wire is broken HINT: If there is approximately 10 V, the wire may be faulty between the center of the wire and the wire end on the battery side. If there is no voltage, the wire may be faulty between the center of the wire end and the wire end on the ground side. Place the voltmeter's positive (+) lead against the defogger wire on the battery side. Place the voltmeter's negative (-) lead with the foil strip against the wire on the ground side. Slide the positive (+) lead from the battery side to the ground side. The point where the voltage drops from approximately 10 V to 0 V is where the defogger wire is broken. HINT: If the defogger wire is not broken, the voltmeter indicates 0 V at the positive (+) end of the defogger wire and gradually increases to approximately 12 V as the meter probe moves to the other end.

  1. REPAIR DEFOGGER WIRE Clean the broken wire tips with grease, wax and silicone remover. Place masking tape along both sides of the wire. Thoroughly mix the repair agent. Dupont paste: No. 4817 or equivalent Using a fine tip brush, apply a small amount of the agent to the wire. After a few minutes, remove the masking tape. NOTE: Do not repair the defogger wire again for at least 24 hours.

  107. REMOVE QUARTER WINDOW ASSEMBLY Apply protective tape to the outer surface of the vehicle body to prevent scratches. From the interior, insert a piano wire between the vehicle body and glass as shown below. Tie objects that can serve as handles (for example, wooden blocks) to both wire ends. NOTE: When separating the quarter window assembly from the vehicle, be careful not to damage the vehicle's paint or interior/exterior ornaments. Cut through the adhesive by pulling the piano wire around the quarter window assembly. NOTE: Leave as much adhesive on the vehicle body as possible when cutting through the adhesive. Disengage the 3 clips. NOTE: Please be careful not to break it because there is not the supplying of a clip. Disengage the retainer. NOTE: Please be careful not to break it because there is not the supplying of a retainer. Using suction cups, remove the glass. NOTE: Be careful not to drop the glass.
  108. CLEAN QUARTER WINDOW ASSEMBLY Clean the outer edges of the glass with a non-residue solvent. NOTE: Do not touch the glass surface after cleaning it. Be careful not to damage the glass, retainer, and spacers. Ever if using a new glass, clean the glass with a non-residue solvent.
  109. CLEAN VEHICLE BODY Clean and shape the contact surfaces of the vehicle body. On the contact surfaces of the vehicle body, use a knife to cut away excess adhesive as shown below. HINT: Leave as much adhesive on the vehicle body as possible. NOTE: Be careful not to damage the vehicle body. Clean the contact surfaces of the vehicle body with cleaner. HINT: Even if all the adhesive has been removed, clean the vehicle body.

Allow the primer to dry for 3 minutes or more. Throw away any leftover Primer M. Do not apply too much primer. Using a brush or sponge, apply Primer G to the contact surface of the glass.   10. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (MAIN BODY ECU - Glass Hatch Opener Switch) Disconnect the D10 and T13 connectors. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. Standard resistance RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION TABLE Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition D10-8 (GHSW) - T13-2 (OPSW) Always Below 1 ohms D10-8 (GHSW) or T13-2 (OPSW) - Body ground Always 10 kohms or higher NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR OK: Go to next step.
  11. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (MAIN BODY ECU - NO. 2 JUNCTION RELAY) Disconnect the D7 and O34 connectors. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. Standard resistance RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION TABLE Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition D7-15 (GRY1) - O34-1 Always Below 1 ohms O7-15 (GRY1) or O34-1 - Body ground Always 10 kohms or higher NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR OK: Go to next step.
  12. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (NO.2 JUNCTION RELAY - NO. 1 JUNCTION RELAY) Disconnect the O34 and O33 connectors. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. Standard resistance RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION TABLE Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition O34-3 - O33-2 Always Below 1 ohms O34-3 or O33-2 - Body ground Always 10 kohms or higher NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR OK: Go to next step.
