BRUSHES

  1. Brushes should slide smoothly in holders. Replace brushes if damaged or worn. See «GENERATOR SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-163567-S14744556672004070600000) .
  2. If exposed brush length is less than minimum, replace brushes and brush holder assembly. Install new brush springs when replacing brushes.

DIODES

Testing information not available from manufacturer.

ROTOR

  1. Check rotor for open field windings by using an ohmmeter across slip rings. Rotor resistance should be within specification. See «GENERATOR SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-163567-S14744556672004070600000) .
  2. Check rotor for shorts to ground by connecting ohmmeter between slip ring and rotor shaft. Ohmmeter should indicate no continuity. Check slip rings for wear or pitting. See «GENERATOR SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-163567-S14744556672004070600000) . If slip rings are shorted to rotor shaft, rough or scored, replace rotor.

STATOR

Removal - V6

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
  2. Remove 11 clips and radiator support upper seal.
  3. Remove serpentine drive belt.
  4. Separate both oil cooler lines from fan shroud.
  5. Remove 3 bolts and seperate fan shroud from radiator.
  6. Remove 4 bolts and seperate fluid coupling from engine.
  7. Remove fan shroud and fan with fluid coupling from vehicle at same time.
  8. Disconnect vacuum hose and power steering pump. Hang power steering pump up out of the way without disconnecting hoses.
  9. Disconnect generator wire harness connector. Remove nut and wire from back of generator. Remove generator mounting bolt and 2 nuts. Remove generator.
