REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

WARNINGVehicles are equipped with Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system. When servicing vehicles, use care to avoid accidental air bag deployment. SIR system-related components are located in various locations throughout interior and exterior of vehicles, depending on application. Do not use electrical test equipment on or near these circuits. If necessary, deactivate SIR system before servicing components. See appropriate AIR BAG DEACTIVATION PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION.
CAUTIONWhen battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. Before disconnecting battery, see appropriate COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION.

Removal (A-340E & A-340F)

  1. Raise and support vehicle.
  2. Remove engine undercover No. 2.
  3. Disconnect PNP switch connector.
  4. Pry off lock washer and remove nut. (Scheme 159)
  5. Remove bolt and remove PNP switch.

Installation (A-340E & A-340F)

  1. Install PNP switch and bolt. Tighten to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-156788-S40979474472003072900000).
  2. Install a NEW lock plate and nut. Tighten to specification.
  3. Bend claws on lock plate to hold nut in place. (Scheme 159)
  4. Connect PNP switch connector.
  5. Check PNP switch operation. See «PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH»(ref-156788-S04887300842003072900000) under ADJUSTMENTS.
  6. Install engine undercover No. 2.

Removal (A-750E & A-750F)

  1. Raise and support vehicle.
  2. Remove engine undercover No. 2.
  3. Disconnect PNP switch connector.
  4. Remove PNP switch using the following steps: Pry off lock washer and remove nut. (Scheme 160) Remove bolt and PNP switch. (Scheme 161)

Installation (A-750E & A-750F)

  1. Install PNP switch using the following steps: Install PNP switch with bolt. Tighten bolt to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-156788-S40979474472003072900000). Install new lock washer and nut. Tighten to specification. (Scheme 161) Bend claws on lock washer to hold nut in place. (Scheme 160)
  2. Connect PNP switch connector.
  3. Inspect and adjust PNP switch operation. See «PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH»(ref-156788-S04887300842003072900000) under ADJUSTMENTS.
  4. Install engine undercover No. 2.

Removal

  1. Disengage 5 clips and remove rear upper console panel sub-assembly, then disconnect connectors. (Scheme 162)
  2. Disengage 6 clips and 2 claws to remove upper console panel sub-assembly. (Scheme 163)
  3. Disengage clip and pull upper console panel garnish No. 1 rearward to remove. (Scheme 164)
  4. Disengage clip and pull upper console panel garnish No. 2 rearward to remove.
  5. Remove 6 bolts and remove rear console box assembly. (Scheme 165)
  6. Remove shift cable using the following steps: Disconnect shift cable from gearshift lever assembly. Remove lock plate and disconnect shift cable. (Scheme 166) Remove 2 bolts and disconnect shift cable from body. (Scheme 167) Remove 2 nuts and disconnect shift cable from body. (Scheme 168) Remove lock plate and shift cable bracket. Remove nut and shift cable. (Scheme 169)

Installation

  1. Install shift cable using the following steps: Install shift cable with nut. (Scheme 169) Install shift cable bracket and lock plate. Connect shift cable with 2 nuts to body. (Scheme 168) Connect shift cable with 2 bolts to body. (Scheme 167) Connect shift cable with lock plate to gearshift lever assembly. (Scheme 166) Install shift cable to gearshift lever assembly.
  2. Install 6 bolts and rear console box assembly. (Scheme 165)
  3. Install upper console panel garnish No. 2 with clip.
  4. Install upper console panel garnish No. 1 with clip. (Scheme 164)
  5. Install upper console panel sub-assembly with 6 clips and 2 claws. (Scheme 163)
  6. Install rear upper console panel sub-assembly 5 clips. (Scheme 162)

  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2. Remove engine undercover No. 2.
  3. Remove oil pan. See «DRAINING & REFILLING»(ref-156788-S28809738782003072900000) under LUBRICATION.
  4. Remove oil filter. See «DRAINING & REFILLING»(ref-156788-S28809738782003072900000) under LUBRICATION.
  5. Disconnect 4 connectors from solenoid valves.
  6. Remove 20 valve body bolts and lower valve body.
  7. Remove solenoid valves using the following steps: Remove 2 bolts and 3 solenoid valves. Turn valve body, remove bolt, lock plate and solenoid valve. (Scheme 170) Remove 3 "O" rings from solenoid valves.
  8. Remove detent spring.
  9. Remove manual valve.
  1. Install manual valve.
  2. Install detent spring.
  3. Install solenoid valves using the following steps: Install 3 new "O" rings to solenoid valves. Install solenoid valve and lock plate with bolt. (Scheme 170) Install 3 solenoid valves with 2 bolts. Tighten to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-156788-S40979474472003072900000).
  4. Install valve body using the following steps: Align groove of the manual valve with pin of lever. (Scheme 171) Install valve body and bolts. (Scheme 172) Tighten to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-156788-S40979474472003072900000).
  5. Connect solenoid valve wiring harness connectors to solenoid valves.
  6. Install oil filter. See «DRAINING & REFILLING»(ref-156788-S28809738782003072900000) under LUBRICATION.
  7. Install oil pan and bolts. See «DRAINING & REFILLING»(ref-156788-S28809738782003072900000) under LUBRICATION. Tighten to specification.
  8. Install engine undercover No. 2.
  9. Fill and inspect automatic transmission fluid. See «DRAINING & REFILLING»(ref-156788-S28809738782003072900000) under LUBRICATION.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2. Remove engine undercover No. 2.
  3. Remove drain plug with gasket and drain automatic transmission fluid.
  4. Remove oil filler tube sub-assembly using the following steps: Remove ATF level gauge. Remove bolt and oil filler tube. Remove "O" ring from oil filler tube.
  5. Remove oil pan. See «DRAINING & REFILLING»(ref-156788-S28809738782003072900000) under LUBRICATION.
  6. Remove oil filter. See «DRAINING & REFILLING»(ref-156788-S28809738782003072900000) under LUBRICATION.
  7. Remove solenoid valve wiring with ATF temperature sensor using the following steps: Disconnect 7 connectors from solenoid valves. Remove 2 bolts and temperature sensor clamps from valve body. (Scheme 173) Disconnect 2 ATF temperature sensors.
  8. Remove valve body assembly using the following steps: Remove 19 bolts to remove valve body. (Scheme 174) Remove 3 drum seal gaskets.
  9. Remove solenoid valves using the following steps: Remove 2 bolts and solenoid valve SR. Remove 2 bolts and solenoid valves S1 and S2. Remove 2 bolts, 2 lock plates, and 4 straight pins. (Scheme 175) Remove solenoid valves SL2 and SLU. Remove solenoid valves SL1 and SLT. Remove "O" ring from solenoid valve S2.
  1. Install solenoid valves using the following steps: Install new "O" ring to solenoid valve S2. Install solenoid valves SL1 and SLT. Install solenoid valves SL2 and SLU. Install 4 straight pins and 2 lock plates with 2 bolts. (Scheme 175) Install solenoid valves S1 and S2 with 2 bolts. Install solenoid valve SR with 2 bolts.
  2. Install valve body using the following steps: Align groove of manual valve with pin of lever. (Scheme 176)Install 3 new drum seal gaskets to transmission case. Install 19 bolts. (Scheme 174) Tighten to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-156788-S40979474472003072900000).
  3. Connect 2 ATF temperature sensors to valve body and install 2 temperature sensor clamps with 2 bolts. (Scheme 173)
  4. Connect 7 connectors to solenoid valves.
  5. Install oil filter. See «DRAINING & REFILLING»(ref-156788-S28809738782003072900000) under LUBRICATION.
  6. Install oil pan. See «DRAINING & REFILLING»(ref-156788-S28809738782003072900000) under LUBRICATION.
  7. Install oil filler tube sub-assembly using the following steps: Coat new "O" ring with ATF and install on oil filler tube. Install oil filler tube and bolt to transmission. Install ATF level gauge.
  8. Install new gasket and drain plug. Tighten drain plug to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-156788-S40979474472003072900000).
  9. Install engine undercover No. 2.
  10. Lower vehicle.
  11. Fill and inspect automatic transmission fluid. See «DRAINING & REFILLING»(ref-156788-S28809738782003072900000) under LUBRICATION.
