Removal
- Disconnect negative cable from battery.
- Lift up the vehicle and drain ATF. See «DRAINING & REFILLING»(ref-151958-S15384010942003010900000) under LUBRICATION.
- Remove rear drive shaft from extension case, see appropriate DRIVE SHAFTS AND UNIVERSAL JOINTS article in DRIVELINE/AXLES.
- Disconnect vehicle speed sensor connector.
- Disconnect A/T output speed sensor connector. (Scheme 4)
- Support transmission with a transmission jack "1". Try not to apply jack against oil pan as much as possible.
- Remove rear mounting. (Scheme 1)
- Remove extension case from transmission.

Installation
- Clean mating surfaces of transmission and extension case.
- Confirm that fluid guide pipe "1" is installed into the extension case properly. (Scheme 2)
- Install new gasket and extension case "2" to transmission. Tighten bolts "1" to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-151958-S38591042502003010900000). (Scheme 3)
- Install rear mounting and tighten bolts to specified torque. (Scheme 1)
- Connect A/T output speed sensor connector. (Scheme 4)
- Connect vehicle speed sensor connector.
- Install rear drive shaft. See appropriate DRIVE SHAFTS AND UNIVERSAL JOINTS article in DRIVELINE/AXLES.
- Lower vehicle.
- Add ATF and check fluid level. See «CHECKING FLUID LEVEL»(ref-151958-S01148079362003010900000) under LUBRICATION.
- Connect battery negative cable to battery.

Removal & Installation
- Lift the vehicle horizontally.
- Remove rear drive shaft from extension case, see appropriate DRIVE SHAFTS AND UNIVERSAL JOINTS article in DRIVELINE/AXLES
- Pry shroud, felt and oil seal with flat bladed tool.
- Be sure to apply grease to oil seal lip "1". Using appropriate seal driver and plastic hammer, press fit new oil seal "1", felt "2" and shroud "3" up to position. (Scheme 5)
- Install rear drive shaft.

- Lift up the vehicle.
- Ensure to wash dirt off from around pipe joints.
- With engine is cool, loosen oil cooler pipe union bolts "2" with oil outlet union locked and remove oil cooler pipes "1" from oil outlet unions and hoses. (Scheme 6) NOTE: To avoid fluid leakage, plug open ends of oil outlet unions and hoses right after they are disconnected.

When replacing components, be sure to note the following: (Scheme 7)
- Replace clamps at the same time
- Insert hose as far as its limit mark
- Clamp hose securely
- Use new union gasket "2" and connect oil cooler pipes "1" to oil outlet unions.
- Connect hoses to pipes and clamp them securely.
- Tighten union bolts to specified torque with oil outlet union locked. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-151958-S38591042502003010900000) .
- Tighten pipe bolt "3" securely.
- Check A/T fluid level. See «CHECKING FLUID LEVEL»(ref-151958-S01148079362003010900000) .
- Check for fluid leakage after warming up A/T.
