DTC P0463: FUEL LEVEL SENSOR (GAUGE) CIRCUIT HIGH INPUT Suzuki Esteem I

Testing & Diagnostics ~256 words
  1. Observe fuel gauge. Ensure gauge reads above empty. Add fuel if necessary. Go to next step.
  2. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition on and use scan tool to check fuel level. If scan tool is not available, measure voltage (backprobe) between ground and PCM 22-pin harness connector "C" terminal No. 11 (Pink/Blue wire on Esteem, or Yellow/Red wire on Swift). If scan tool reads 0%, or if DVOM reads 7 volts or more, go to next step. If readings are not as specified, problem is intermittent or due to a faulty PCM. Go to INTERMITTENTS in «TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES»(ref-91186) article.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect fuel level sensor harness connector. Using an ohmmeter, check for specified resistance between ground and Pink/Blue (Esteem) or Yellow/Red (Swift) wire at fuel level sensor connector (fuel level sensor side). See «FUEL LEVEL SENSOR RESISTANCE»(ref-91183-S35197303432002110600000) table. If resistance is as specified, check for an open in Pink/Blue (Esteem) or Yellow/Red (Swift) wire between fuel level sensor and PCM, or an open in Black wire between fuel level sensor and ground. Repair as necessary. If resistance is not as specified, go to next step. FUEL LEVEL SENSOR RESISTANCE Fuel Level Ohms Empty Esteem 120 Swift 100 Or More Half 32.5 Full 10 Or Less
  4. Check for an open in Pink/Blue wire (Esteem) or Yellow/Red wire (Swift), or Black wire between connector and fuel level sensor. Repair as necessary. If wires are okay, replace fuel level sensor. Retest system.
