1 CHECK SUBARU SELECT MONITOR. Connect the Subaru Select Monitor to another vehicle. Check communication condition between Subaru Select Monitor and vehicle.Is communication performed normally?Go to step 2 .Subaru Select Monitor unit or diagnosis cable is faulty. Or check the fuse on the vehicle side.
2 CHECK COMMUNICATION FOR INITIALIZING ERROR. Perform the communication for initializing with the following modules by connecting the Subaru Select Monitor. (only for installed modules) VDC Body integrated unit Meter High grade MFD (C0 model only) A/C A/B Auto headlight beam leveler TCMIs the communication possible with all modules?Go to step 3 .Perform the inspection using the check sheet of communication for initializing. < Refer to CHECK USING THE CHECK SHEET OF COMMUNICATION FOR INITIALIZING , COMMUNICATION FOR INITIALIZING IMPOSSIBLE, Subaru Select Monitor. >
3 CHECK K-LINE. Establish the communication between Select Monitor and K-Line communication module. Using a tester, check continuity between the modules that did not communicate with Select Monitor. Connector & terminal (B40) No. 7 - (B135) No. 14 (ECM): (B40) No. 7 - (B450) No. 2 (electric power steering)Is there continuity?Go to step 4 .Repair or replace the open circuit.
4 CHECK K-LINE. Using a tester, check continuity between K-line and chassis ground. Connector & terminal (B40) No. 7 - Chassis groundIs there continuity?Repair or replace the short circuit portion.Go to step 5 .
5 CHECK K-LINE. Using a tester, check voltage between K-line and chassis ground. Connector & terminal (B40) No. 7 (+) - Chassis ground (-)Is the voltage 5 V or more with IG ON?Repair or replace the short circuit portion.Go to step 6 .
6 CHECK K-LINE. Use a tester to check for continuity in the ground circuit. Connector & terminal (B40) No. 4 - Chassis ground: (B40) No. 5 - Chassis groundIs there continuity?Go to step 8 .Go to step 7 .
7 CHECK K-LINE. Disconnect the ECM connector. Use a tester to check for continuity in the ground circuit. Connector & terminal (B40) No. 4 - (B137) No. 3: (B40) No. 5 - (B136) No. 4Is there continuity?Check ECM ground.Repair or replace the open circuit.
8 CHECK K-LINE. Turn the ignition switch to ON. Using a tester, check the power supply of data link connector.   1. Check sheet of communication for initializing
  1. Module installation check Write "-" marks in the field for installation check if the vehicle to be inspected does not have relevant module. Write "-" marks in all blank fields on the same row that the "-" mark has filled in.   2. SSM communication initialization check Write "o" marks in the field for communication initialization if the module succeeded in the communication for initializing with Select Monitor. If the communication with all modules is not possible, go to 3). Write "o" marks in all blank fields on the same row that the "o" mark has filled in. When at least one field in a column of wiring location is filled with the "o" mark, then the wiring for that location is normal, Write "o" marks in all blank fields on the same column that the "o" mark has filled in under the circled number. Check the open circuit of the modules which have no "o" mark in their columns of the wiring location in ascending order. (only for installed modules) If the communication is not possible after checking all harnesses, check the module power supply line. Replace the module if the power supply line is normal.   3. SSM communication initialization check (impossible to communicate with all modules) NOTE: If at least one module becomes possible to communicate, return to 2 . Check for the short circuit to ground. < Refer to «GROUND SHORT INSPECTION»(ref-560387-S26206521522013061300000) , INSPECTION, CAN Communication Circuit Check. > If it is normal, go to the next. Check for the short circuit to battery. < Refer to «BATTERY SHORT INSPECTION»(ref-560387-S00544421412013061300000) , INSPECTION, CAN Communication Circuit Check. > If it is normal, go to the next. Perform the inspection for the resistance of 52 ohms or less (short between wires). < Refer to «52 ohms OR LESS»(ref-560387-S27172372212013061300000) , INSPECTION, CAN Communication Circuit Check. > If it is normal, go to the next. Check for the open circuit of network diagram No. 8 (data link connector).

2 CHECK CONTROL MODULE. With the tester connected, disconnect control module. NOTE: Disconnect the body integrated unit at the end. Note. When the measured resistance value is 53 - 61 ohms, main wiring harness or related lines may be shorted to ground, or shorted to power supply line, or related line may be open.

Note. When the bus line is measured, combined resistance of end resistance (120 ohms) in ECM and end resistance (120 ohms) in VDC CM can be measured. The combined resistance is approximately 53 - 61 ohms with the stabilizing circuit included. When the measured resistance value is 52 ohms or less, main wiring harness or related lines may be shorted, or combined resistance may have changed because resistance other than end resistance is created on the circuit.

4 CHECK CONTROL MODULE. Disconnect ECM and VDC CM connectors. Using a tester, measure the resistance between control module terminals. Connector & terminal (B136) No. 17 - No. 28: (B310) No. 2 - No. 15Is the resistance 114 - 126 ohms?Go to step 5 .Replace the control module whose end resistance value is out of the specified range.
5 CHECK CONTROL MODULE. Disconnect the connector of body integrated unit. Using a tester, measure the resistance between control module terminals. Connector & terminal (B281) No. 28 - (i84) No. 27: (B281) No. 20 - (i84) No. 35Is the resistance 2, 850 - 3, 150 ohms?Go to step 6 .Replace the body integrated unit. < Refer to REMOVAL , Body Integrated Unit. >
6 CHECK CONTROL MODULE. Using a tester, measure the resistance between control module terminals. 7 CHECK CONTROL MODULE. Disconnect the combination meter connector. Using a tester, measure the resistance between control module terminals. Connector & terminal (i10) No. 32 - No. 33Is the resistance 2, 850 - 3, 150 ohms?Go to step 8 .Replace the combination meter.
8 CHECK CONTROL MODULE (ONLY FOR MODELS WITH HIGH GRADE MFD). Disconnect the MFD connector. Using a tester, measure the resistance between control module terminals. Connector & terminal (i122) No. 5 - No. 6Is the resistance 2, 850 - 3, 150 ohms?Go to step 9 .Replace the MFD.
9 CHECK HARNESS. Using the tester, check the short circuit portion of each harness. Connector & terminal (B281) No. 28 - No. 20Is the resistance 1 Mohms or more?Go to step 11 .Go to step 10 .
10 CHECK CONTROL MODULE. With a tester connected, disconnect control modules in order. Connector & terminal (B281) No. 28 - No. 20Are there any control modules whose resistance changed to 1 Mohms or more?Replace the control module that has changed.Repair or replace the harness part which has resistance component.
11 CHECK CONTROL MODULE. With a tester connected, disconnect control modules in order. Connector & terminal (i84) No. 27 - No. 35Is there any control module whose resistance has changed to 1 Mohms or more?Replace the control module that has changed.Repair or replace the harness part which has resistance component.
NOTE
Disconnect the body integrated unit at the end.

Note. When CAN communication circuit is measured, combined resistance of end resistance (120 ohms) in ECM and end resistance (120 ohms) in VDC CM can be measured. The combined resistance is approximately 53 - 61 ohms with the stabilizing circuit included. When the measured resistance value is 62 ohms or more, either one of the end resistances, or stabilizing circuit, or main wiring harness may have malfunction such as open circuit.

5 CHECK CONTROL MODULE (ONLY FOR MODELS WITH HIGH GRADE MFD). Disconnect the MFD connector. Using a tester, measure the resistance between control module terminals. Connector & terminal (i122) No. 5 - No. 6Is the resistance 2, 850 - 3, 150 ohms?Go to step 6 .Replace the MFD.
6 CHECK HARNESS. Using a tester, check continuity between terminals. Connector & terminal (B40) No. 6 - (B310) No. 2: (B40) No. 14 - (B310) No. 15: (B40) No. 6 - (B281) No. 20: (B40) No. 14 - (B281) No. 28Is there continuity?Go to step 7 .Repair or replace the open circuit of harness.
7 CHECK HARNESS. Disconnect the ECM connector. Using a tester, check continuity between terminals. Connector & terminal (i84) No. 27 - (B136) No. 17: (i84) No. 35 - (B136) No. 28Is there continuity?It is possible that temporary poor communication occurs.Repair or replace the open circuit of harness.

Note. Perform inspection when no data is received, or faulty is detected. This is different from power supply shorted or ground shorted.

1 CHECK BETWEEN RELATED LINES AND MAIN WIRING HARNESS. Disconnect the remote engine start CM connector. Using the tester, measure the resistance between terminals. Connector & terminal (B180) No. 1 - No. 2Is the resistance 400 ohms or more?Related lines between remote engine start CM and main wiring harness is open, or main wiring harness is open at two places or more.Go to step 2 .
2 CHECK RELATED LINES. Using the tester, measure the resistance between terminals. Connector & terminal (B180) No. 1 - (B40) No. 6: (B180) No. 2 - (B40) No. 14Is the resistance 10 ohms or more?Repair or replace the open circuit portion of remote engine start CM related lines.The communication harness is normal. Check the remote engine starter CM or the mobile key.
