GENERAL TOOL REFERENCE CHART
CAUTION
- Wear appropriate work clothing, including a cap, protective goggles and protective shoes when performing any work.
- Remove contamination including dirt and corrosion before removal, installation or disassembly.
- Keep the disassembled parts in order and protect them from dust and dirt.
- Before removal, installation or disassembly, be sure to clarify the failure. Avoid unnecessary removal, installation, disassembly and replacement.
- Use SUBARU genuine fluid, grease etc. or equivalent. Do not mix fluid, grease, etc. of different grades or manufacturers.
- Be sure to tighten fasteners including bolts and nuts to the specified torque.
- Place shop jacks or rigid racks at the specified points.
- Apply grease onto sliding or revolving surfaces before installation.
- Before installing O-rings or snap rings, apply sufficient amount of fluid to avoid damage and deformation.
- Before securing a part in a vise, place cushioning material such as wood blocks, aluminum plate or cloth between the part and the vise.
- Before disconnecting electrical connectors, be sure to disconnect the negative terminal from battery.

- Set the vehicle on a lift.
- Disconnect the ground cable from battery.
- Remove the gear shift knob.
- Remove the console front panel and console boot.
- Remove the console cover and console box. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-357250-S06797543912010031100000) , Console Box.
- Remove the clamp.
- Remove the bushing and insulator assembly.
- Remove the harness clamp from the plate assembly.
- Remove the plate assembly from the vehicle body.
- Lift up the vehicle.
- Remove the rear exhaust pipe and muffler. Non-turbo model Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-357254-S32999093642010031100000) , Rear Exhaust Pipe. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-357254-S17169301122010031100000) , Muffler. Turbo model Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-357260-S02665767832010031100000) , Rear Exhaust Pipe. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-357260-S20286020412010031100000) , Muffler.
- Remove the heat shield cover.
- Remove the stay from transmission bracket.
- Remove the rod from joint.
- Remove the cushion rubber from the vehicle body.
- Extract the spring pin and remove the joint.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the gear shift lever.

- Install the joint to the transmission and secure with a spring pin.
- Insert the gear shift lever from the room side. NOTE: Insert the rod and the stay, and then temporarily set them onto the transmission mount.
- Lift up the vehicle.
- Mount the cushion rubber on the vehicle body. Tightening torque: 18 N.m (1.8 kgf-m, 13.3 ft-lb)
- Using new self-locking nuts, connect the rod to the joint. Tightening torque: 12 N.m (1.2 kgf-m, 8.9 ft-lb)
- Using new self-locking nuts, connect the stay to the transmission bracket. Tightening torque: 18 N.m (1.8 kgf-m, 13.3 ft-lb)
- Install the heat shield cover.
- Install the rear exhaust pipe and muffler. Non-turbo model Refer to «INSTALLATION»(ref-357254-S01911806842010031100000) , Rear Exhaust Pipe. Refer to «INSTALLATION»(ref-357254-S26780140732010031100000) , Muffler. Turbo model Refer to «INSTALLATION»(ref-357260-S40085387742010031100000) , Rear Exhaust Pipe. Refer to «INSTALLATION»(ref-357260-S15991227992010031100000) , Muffler.
- Install the plate assembly to the body. Tightening torque: 18 N.m (1.8 kgf-m, 13.3 ft-lb) Set the plate assembly to the vehicle. Temporarily tighten the bolt (A). Tighten the bolt (B). Tighten the bolt (A). Tighten the bolts (C) and (D).
- Install the harness clamp to the plate.
- Install the boot and insulator assembly, and secure with a clamp.
- Install the console cover and console box. Refer to «INSTALLATION»(ref-357250-S40920619742010031100000) , Console Box.
- Install the console front panel and console boot.
- Install the gear shift knob.
- Make sure the gears can be shifted accurately into each gear.

- Remove the lock wires.
- Remove the rod from lever.
- Separate the rod and inner boot.
- Remove the snap ring from the stay.
- Separate the gear shift lever and the stay.
- Remove the boot, bushing and snap ring from gear shift lever.
- Remove the spring pin, and then remove the bushing and snap ring.
- Remove the boss from the joint.
- Remove the bushing and spacer from the boss.
- Remove the bushing and cushion rubber from the stay.
