INSTALLATION
Install in the reverse order of removal.

- Disconnect the ground terminal from battery.
- Remove the lower cover.
- Remove the knee bolster.
- Disconnect the connector from integrated module.
- Remove the integrated module.
Install in the reverse order of removal.

- Set the vehicle on the lift.
- Remove the gear shift knob.
- Disconnect the ground terminal from battery.
- Remove the console box. See «CONSOLE BOX»(ref-175321-S21205638042005042000000) .
- Remove the boot plate from body.
- Lift-up the vehicle.
- Remove the rear exhaust pipe and muffler.
- Remove the heat shield cover. (If equipped)
- Remove the stay from transmission bracket.
- Remove the rod from joint.
- Remove the cushion rubber from body.
- Remove the joint and then extract the spring pin.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the gear shift lever.

- Install the joint to the transmission and secure with the spring pin.
- Insert the gear shift lever from room side. NOTE: After inserting the rod and stay, temporarily put them onto transmission mount.
- Lift-up the vehicle.
- Install the joint to shifter arm.
- Insert the spring pin.
- Mount the cushion rubber on the body. Tightening torque: 18 N.m (1.8 kgf-m, 13.0 ft-lb)
- Connect the rod to the joint. Tightening torque: 18 N.m (1.8 kgf-m, 13.0 ft-lb)
- . Tightening torque: 18 N.m (1.8 kgf-m, 13.0 ft-lb)
- Install the heat shield cover. (If equipped)
- Install the rear exhaust pipe and muffler.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the boot plate to body. Tightening torque: 7.5 N.m (0.76 kgf-m, 5.5 ft-lb)
- Install the console box. See «CONSOLE BOX»(ref-175321-S21205638042005042000000) .

- Disassemble the locking wire.
- Remove the rod from gear shift lever.
- Remove the snap ring from bushing B, then disconnect the stay.
- Remove the boot from gear shift lever.
- Remove the bushing and cushion rubber from stay.
- Remove the O-ring, then disconnect the bushing D.
- Draw out the spring pin, then remove the bushing A from gear shift lever.

- Clean all parts before assembly.
- Mount the bushing and cushion rubber on the stay.
- Mount each part; boot, O-ring, bushing, spacer, bush A, bush B and spring pin on the gear shift lever. CAUTION: Always use new O-rings. Apply grease [NIGTIGHT LYW No. 2 or equivalent] to the inner and side surfaces of the bushing when installing the spacer.
- Insert the gear shift lever into the boot hole.
- Install the snap ring and stay to the bushing.
- Tighten with locking wire to the extent that the boot will not come off. CAUTION: Always use new locking wire.
- Insert the rod into the boot hole.
- Connect the rod to gear shift lever. Tightening torque: 11.8 N.m (1.2 kgf-m, 8.7 ft-lb)
- Check the swing torque of the rod in relation to the gear shift lever. If the torque exceeds the specification, replace the bushing or retighten nuts.
- Check that there is no excessive play and that parts move smoothly.

- Check each part (bushing, cushion rubber, spacer, boot, stay and rod, etc.) for deformation, damage and wear. Repair or replace any defective part. Determine defective parts by comparing with new parts.
- Check the swing torque of the rod in relation of the gear shift lever.
If the torque exceeds the specification, replace the bushing or retighten nuts.
Swing torque: 0.7 N.m (0.07 kgf-m, 0.5 ft-lb) or less
