Engine Controls - Engine (Diagnostics) (H4SO): Overview Subaru Forester SH

1 CHECK ENGINE START FAILURE . Ask the customer when and how the trouble occurred using the interview check list. Refer to CHECK , Check List for Interview. Start the engine.Does the engine start?Go to step 2 .Inspection using "Diagnostics for Engine Start Failure". Refer to DIAGNOSTICS FOR ENGINE STARTING FAILURE .
2 CHECK ILLUMINATION OF MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT .Does the malfunction indicator light illuminate?Go to step 3.Inspection using "General Diagnostic Table" Refer to INSPECTION , General Diagnostic Table.
3 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION STATUS . Turn the ignition switch to OFF. Connect the Subaru Select Monitor or general scan tool to data link connector. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and run the Subaru Select Monitor or general scan tool. NOTE: Subaru Select Monitor For detailed procedures, refer to "Subaru Select Monitor". Refer to SUBARU SELECT MONITOR . General scan tool For detailed operation procedures, refer to the general scan tool operation manual.Does Subaru select monitor or general scan tool communicate with vehicle normally?Go to step 4 .Inspection using "Diagnostics Procedure for Subaru Select Monitor Communication". Refer to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE FOR SUBARU SELECT MONITOR COMMUNICATION .
4 CHECK DTC . Read DTC using Subaru Select Monitor or general scan tool. NOTE: Subaru Select Monitor Refer to "Read Diagnostic Trouble Code" for detailed operation procedure. Refer to READ DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) . General scan tool For detailed operation procedures, refer to the general scan tool operation manual.Is DTC displayed on the Subaru Select Monitor or general scan tool?Record the DTC. Repair the trouble cause. Refer to LIST OF DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) . Go to step 5.Repair the related parts. NOTE: If DTC is not shown on display although the malfunction indicator light illuminates, perform the diagnosis of malfunction indicator light circuit or combination meter. Refer to MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT .
5 PERFORM DIAGNOSIS . Perform the Clear Memory Mode. Refer to CLEAR MEMORY MODE . Perform the Inspection Mode. Refer to INSPECTION MODE .Is DTC displayed on the Subaru Select Monitor or general scan tool?Inspect using "Diagnostic Procedure with Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC)". Refer to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE WITH DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) .Finish the diagnosis.

Subaru Select Monitor For detailed procedures, refer to "Subaru Select Monitor". Refer to SUBARU SELECT MONITOR . General scan tool For detailed operation procedures, refer to the general scan tool operation manual.
NOTE
Subaru Select Monitor Refer to "Read Diagnostic Trouble Code" for detailed operation procedure. Refer to READ DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) . General scan tool For detailed operation procedures, refer to the general scan tool operation manual.
NOTE
If DTC is not shown on display although the malfunction indicator light illuminates, perform the diagnosis of malfunction indicator light circuit or combination meter. Refer to MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT .

ENGINE DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

OPERATION

  1. Prepare the Subaru Select Monitor kit. Refer to «PREPARATION TOOL»(ref-325319-S06557699802009071800000) , General Description.
  2. Prepare the personal computer which has been installed the Subaru Select Monitor.
  3. Connect the USB cable between SDI (Subaru Diagnosis Interface) and USB port on the personal computer (dedicated port for the Subaru Select Monitor). NOTE: The dedicated port for the Subaru Select Monitor means the USB port which was used to install the Subaru Select Monitor.
  4. Connect the diagnosis cable to the SDI.
  5. Connect the delivery (test) mode connector (A) located under the glove box.
  6. Connect the SDI to data link connector located in the lower portion of the instrument panel (on the driver's side). CAUTION: Do not connect the scan tools except for Subaru Select Monitor and general scan tool.
  7. Start up the personal computer.
  8. Turn the ignition switch to ON (engine OFF), and run the "PC application for Subaru Select Monitor".
  9. On the «Main Menu» display screen, select the {Each System Check}.
  10. On the «System Selection Menu» display screen, select the {Engine Control System}.
  11. Click the [OK] button after the information of engine type has been displayed.
  12. On the «Engine Diagnosis» display screen, select the {System Operation Check Mode}.
  13. On the «System Operation Check Mode» display screen, select the {Actuator ON/OFF Operation}.
  14. Select the desired compulsory actuator on the «Actuator ON/OFF Operation» display screen and click the [Next] button.
  15. Clicking the [End] button completes the compulsory valve operation check mode. The display will then return to the «Actuator ON/OFF Operation» screen.

Note. The following parts will be displayed but not functional.
