DIAGNOSTIC TESTS

Note. For correct circuit identification, see WIRING DIAGRAMS. For connector terminal identification see scheme 2- see scheme 5.

BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE

  1. Remove key from ignition switch. Set room light switch in middle position. Close all doors and rear gate. Press LOCK/ARM button one time. If all doors and rear gate lock normally, go to next step. If all doors and rear gate do not lock normally, replace keyless entry control module. See «KEYLESS ENTRY CONTROL MODULE»(ref-128976-S35171949452001110900000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. If horn signal chirps one time, go to next step. If horn signal does not chirp one time, go to «HORN DIAGNOSTIC TEST»(ref-128976-S19285044242001110900000) .
  3. Press UNLOCK/DISARM button one time. If driver's door unlocks normally, go to next step. If driver's door does not lock normally, replace keyless entry control module. See «KEYLESS ENTRY CONTROL MODULE»(ref-128976-S35171949452001110900000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  4. If horn signal chirps 2 times, go to next step. If horn signal does not chirp 2 times, replace keyless entry control module. See «KEYLESS ENTRY CONTROL MODULE»(ref-128976-S35171949452001110900000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  5. Check if room light is turned on. If room light turns on for 30 seconds, and then turns off, go to next step. If room light does not turn on for 30 seconds, and then turns off, go to «ROOM LIGHT DIAGNOSTIC TEST»(ref-128976-S27692984802001110900000) .
  6. Press LOCK/ARM button one time. Press UNLOCK/DISARM button two times. If all doors and rear gate lock normally, go to next step. If all doors and rear gate do not lock normally, replace keyless entry control module. See «KEYLESS ENTRY CONTROL MODULE»(ref-128976-S35171949452001110900000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  7. Keep LOCK/ARM button pressed for more than 1.5 seconds. If horn sounds for 30 seconds, and then turns off, go to next step. If horn does not sound for 30 seconds, and then turns off, replace keyless entry control module. See «KEYLESS ENTRY CONTROL MODULE»(ref-128976-S35171949452001110900000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  8. Keep LOCK/ARM button pressed for more than 1.5 seconds. Horn will sound. Press LOCK/ARM button. If horn turns off, go to next step. If horn does not turn off, replace keyless entry control module.
  9. Keep LOCK/ARM button pressed for more than 1.5 seconds. Horn will sound. Press UNLOCK/DISARM button. If horn turns off, go to next step. If horn does not turn off, replace keyless entry control module. See «KEYLESS ENTRY CONTROL MODULE»(ref-128976-S35171949452001110900000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  10. Open front left door. If room light turns on, go to next step. If room light does not turn on, go to «DOOR SWITCH DIAGNOSTIC TEST»(ref-128976-S40128142032001110900000) .
  11. Close front left door. Open front right door. If room light turns on, go to next step. If room light does not turn on, go to «DOOR SWITCH DIAGNOSTIC TEST»(ref-128976-S40128142032001110900000) .
  12. Close front right door. Open rear right door. If room light turns on, go to next step. If room light does not turn on, go to «DOOR SWITCH DIAGNOSTIC TEST»(ref-128976-S40128142032001110900000) .
  13. Program transmitter. See «KEYLESS TRANSMITTER»(ref-128976-S33078501282001110900000) under PROGRAMMING. If transmitter operates normally, go to next step. If transmitter does not operate normally, go to «IGNITION SWITCH DIAGNOSTIC TEST»(ref-128976-S09529055072001110900000) .
  14. Insert key into ignition switch. Turn key to LOCK position. Perform lock and unlock function with transmitter. If power door lock functions normally, system is okay. If power door lock does not function normally, go to «KEY WARNING SWITCH DIAGNOSTIC TEST»(ref-128976-S26106044262001110900000) .

HORN DIAGNOSTIC TEST

  1. Keep both LOCK/ARM and UNLOCK/DISARM buttons pressed for more than 1.5 seconds. If horn chirps one time, go to next step. If horn does not chirp one time, replace keyless entry control module. See «KEYLESS ENTRY CONTROL MODULE»(ref-128976-S35171949452001110900000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. Disconnect connector from keyless entry control module. Measure voltage between connector terminal No. 12 and ground. see scheme 5 If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to step 6.
  3. Remove horn relay from main fuse box. Check continuity between horn relay terminals No. 1 and 2. If continuity exists, replace relay. If continuity does not exist, go to next step.
  4. Check continuity between relay terminals No. 3 and 4. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace horn relay.
  5. Connect battery to horn relay terminals No. 3 and 4. Check continuity between relay terminals No. 1 and 2. If continuity exists, repair horn circuit wiring harness. If continuity does not exist, replace horn relay.
  6. Remove and visually inspect fuse No. 6 located in main fuse box. If fuse No. 6 is blown, replace fuse. If fuse No. 6 is not blown, go to next step.
  7. Install horn relay to main fuse box. Measure voltage between main fuse box connector No. 4 and ground. (Scheme 10) If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair wiring harness between main fuse box and battery.
  8. Disconnect connector from main fuse box and keyless entry control module. Measure resistance between keyless entry control module connector terminal No. 12 and main fuse box connector terminal No. 4. (Scheme 10)and see scheme 5 If resistance is less than 10 ohms, replace keyless entry control module. See «KEYLESS ENTRY CONTROL MODULE»(ref-128976-S35171949452001110900000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is greater than 10 ohms, repair wiring harness between main fuse box and keyless entry control module.

ROOM LIGHT DIAGNOSTIC TEST

  1. Remove and visually inspect fuse No. 2 located in main fuse box. If fuse No. 2 is blown, replace fuse. If fuse No. 2 is not blown, go to next step.
  2. Remove and visually inspect room light bulb. If bulb is blown, replace bulb. If bulb is not blown, go to next step.
  3. Remove room light. Measure resistance between room light switch terminals at middle position. (Scheme 11) If resistance is less than one ohm, repair or replace room light. If resistance is greater than one ohm, go to next step.
  4. Disconnect connector from room light. Open any door. Measure voltage between room light connector terminal No. 2 and ground. If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair wiring harness between room light and battery.
  5. Disconnect connector from keyless entry control module. Measure resistance between room light connector terminal No. 1 and keyless entry control module connector terminal No. 4. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, replace keyless entry control module. See «KEYLESS ENTRY CONTROL MODULE»(ref-128976-S35171949452001110900000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is greater than 10 ohms, repair wiring harness between room light and keyless entry control module.

DOOR SWITCH DIAGNOSTIC TEST

Remove door switch. Move switch and check continuity between switch terminal No. 1 and ground. Continuity should exist with switch in ON position. Continuity should not exist with switch in OFF position. If continuity is as specified, replace door switch. If continuity is not as specified, replace keyless entry control module. See KEYLESS ENTRY CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.

IGNITION SWITCH DIAGNOSTIC TEST

Remove ignition switch. Turn ignition on each position and check continuity between ignition switch connector terminals. See IGNITION SWITCH TERMINAL CONTINUITY CHECK table. If continuity is as specified, replace ignition switch. See appropriate STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article. If continuity is not as specified, replace keyless entry control module. See KEYLESS ENTRY CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.

IGNITION SWITCH TERMINAL CONTINUITY CHECK

KEY WARNING SWITCH DIAGNOSTIC TEST

  1. Remove and visually inspect fuse No. 6 located in main fuse box. If fuse No. 6 is blown, replace fuse. If fuse No. 6 is not blown, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect connector from keyless entry control module. Insert key into ignition switch. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Measure voltage between keyless entry control module connector terminals No. 16 and ground. If voltage is greater than 10 volts, replace keyless entry control module. See «KEYLESS ENTRY CONTROL MODULE»(ref-128976-S35171949452001110900000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect connector from key warning switch. Measure voltage between key warning switch connector terminal No. 2 and ground. If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair wiring harness between battery and key warning switch.
  4. Measure resistance between key warning switch connector terminal No. 1 and keyless entry control module connector terminal No. 16. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, replace key warning switch. If resistance is greater than 10 ohms, repair wiring harness between key warning switch and keyless entry control module.
