Removal
AIRBAG system wiring harness is routed near combination meter.
| CAUTION | All AIRBAG system wiring harness and connectors are yellow. Do not use electrical test equipment on these circuits. Be careful not to damage AIRBAG system wiring harness when servicing the instrument panel. |

- Disconnect ground cable from battery.
- Remove shift knob (MT model).
- Remove console cover (A) and front cover (B). (Scheme 80): Removing Shift Knob & Console Cover (A) & Front Cover (B)
- Remove console box. (Scheme 81): Removing Console Box
- Remove lower cover and then disconnect connector. (Scheme 82): Removing Lower Cover
- Disconnect data link connector (A) from lower cover. (Scheme 83): Disconnecting Data Link Connector (A) From Lower Cover
- Remove knee panel. (Scheme 84): Removing Knee Panel
- Remove glove box. (Scheme 85): Removing Glove Box
- Remove center panel and disconnect connector.
- Remove audio. (Scheme 86): Removing Center Panel
- Remove the two bolts and lower steering column. (Scheme 87): Removing Bolts & Lower Steering Column
- Set temperature control switch to "FULL HOT", mode selector switch to "DEF" position and recirculation switch to "FRESH" position.
- Disconnect temperature control cable and mode control cable from heater unit then disconnect recirculation control cable from intake unit. NOTE: Do not move switch and link when installing. (Scheme 88): Preparing Control Unit For Removal
- Disconnect harness connectors and then remove the installing bolts and nuts. CAUTION: Be sure to hold socket section and not harness when disconnecting. NOTE: Put matching mark, if necessary, for easy reassembly. (Scheme 89): Disconnecting Harness Connectors & Removing Installing Bolts & Nuts
- Remove front defroster grille and the two bolts. (Scheme 90): Removing Front Defroster Grille & Two Bolts
- Remove instrument panel carefully from the body. CAUTION: Take care not to scratch the instrument panel and related parts. When storing removed instrument panel with passenger AIRBAG module, place it standing up on the floor. (Scheme 91): Storing Instrument Panel, Position Standing Up
Installation
Install in the reverse order of removal.
Note. When setting instrument panel into position, push two pins (A) into grommet (B) on body panel.
