Scheme 348: CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN
- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on.
- Clear DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC operation).
- Turn the ignition switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on [A].
- Wait 16 seconds or more.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes [B].
- Read the DTCs. HINT: If a DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning. If a DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / All Readiness.
- Input the DTC: P1607.
- Check the DTC judgment result. PROCEDURE
- READ OUTPUT DTC (DTC P1607) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch to ON. Turn the Techstream on. Clear DTC. Refer to «DTC CHECK / CLEAR»(ref-388734-S06424090862011031100000) . Turn the ignition switch to OFF and turn the tester OFF. Disconnect the tester. Disconnect the cable from the battery negative (-) terminal and wait for 1 minute. Connect the cable to the battery negative (-) terminal. Connect the tester to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch to ON. Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes. Read the DTCs. Scheme 349: CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN
- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

- Clear DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC operation).
- Turn the ignition switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on [A].
- Start the engine.
- With the vehicle stationary, fully depress the accelerator pedal and quickly release it [B].
- Check that 16 seconds or more have elapsed from the instant when the accelerator pedal is first depressed.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes [C].
- Read the DTCs. HINT: If a DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning. If a DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / All Readiness.
- Input the DTC: P2102 or P2103.
- Check the DTC judgment result. FAIL-SAFE
When either of these DTCs or other DTCs relating to ETCS (Electronic Throttle Control System) malfunctions, is set, the ECM enters fail-safe mode. During fail-safe mode, the ECM cuts the current to the throttle actuator, and the throttle valve is returned to a 6° throttle angle by the return spring. The ECM then adjusts the engine output by controlling the fuel injection (intermittent fuel-cut) and ignition timing, in accordance with the accelerator pedal opening angle, to allow the vehicle to continue running at a minimal speed. If the accelerator pedal is depressed firmly and gently, the vehicle can be driven slowly.
Fail-safe mode continues until a pass condition is detected, and the ignition switch is then turned OFF.

When any of DTCs P2120, P2121, P2122, P2123, P2125, P2127, P2128 and P2138 are set, the ECM enters fail-safe mode. If either of the 2 sensor circuits malfunctions, the ECM uses the remaining circuit to calculate the accelerator pedal position to allow the vehicle to continue driving. If both of the circuits malfunction, the ECM regards the accelerator pedal as being released. As a result, the throttle valve is closed and the engine idles.
Fail-safe mode continues until a pass condition is detected, and the ignition switch is turned to OFF.

- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on.
- Clear DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC operation).
- Turn the ignition switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on [A].
- Fully depress and release the accelerator pedal [B].
- Check that 20 seconds or more have elapsed since the DTCs were cleared.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes [C].
- Read the DTCs. HINT: If a DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning. If a DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / All Readiness.
- Input the DTC: P2121.
- Check the DTC judgment result. HINT: If a permanent DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning. If no permanent DTC is output, the system is normal.
The accelerator pedal position sensor has two (main and sub) sensor circuits. If a malfunction occurs in either of the sensor circuits, the ECM detects the abnormal signal voltage difference between the two sensor circuits and switches to fail-safe mode. In fail-safe mode, the functioning circuit is used to calculate the accelerator pedal opening angle to allow the vehicle to continue driving. If both circuits malfunction, the ECM regards the opening angle of the accelerator pedal as being fully closed. In this case, the throttle valve remains closed as if the engine is idling.
If a pass condition is detected and then the ignition switch is turned to OFF, the fail-safe operation stops and the system returns to a normal condition.

CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN

This confirmation driving pattern is used in the "PERFORM CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN" procedure of the following diagnostic troubleshooting procedure.

- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Turn the Techstream on.
- Clear DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC operation).
- Turn the ignition switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on.
- Start the engine, and warm it up until the ECT reaches 75°C (167°F) or higher [A].
- On the Techstream, enter the following menus to check the fuel-cut status: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Idle Fuel Cut.
- Drive the vehicle at between 60 and 120 km/h (38 and 75 mph) for at least 10 minutes [B]. WARNING: When performing the confirmation driving pattern, obey all speed limits and traffic laws.
- Shift the transmission to 2nd gear [C].
- Accelerate the vehicle to 64 km/h (40 mph) or more by depressing the accelerator pedal for at least 10 seconds [D]. WARNING: When performing the confirmation driving pattern, obey all speed limits and traffic laws.
- Soon after performing step [D] above, release the accelerator pedal for at least 8 seconds without depressing the brake pedal in order to execute fuel-cut control [E]. HINT: Fuel-cut is performed when the following conditions are met: Accelerator pedal is fully released. Engine speed is 2500 rpm or more (fuel injection returns at 1000 rpm).
- Allow the vehicle to decelerate until the vehicle speed decreases to less than 10 km/h (6 mph).
- Repeat steps [C] through [E] above at least 3 times in one driving cycle.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes [F].
- Read the pending DTCs. HINT: If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning. If a pending DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / All Readiness.
- Input the DTC: P2195 or P2196.
- Check the DTC judgment result. Note. The Evaporative System Check (Automatic Mode) consists of 5 steps performed automatically by the Techstream. It takes a maximum of approximately 19 minutes. Do not perform the Evaporative System Check when the fuel tank is more than 90% full because the cut-off valve may be closed, making the fuel tank leak check unavailable. Do not run the engine during this operation. When the temperature of the fuel is 35°C (95°F) or higher, a large amount of vapor forms and any check results become inaccurate. When performing the Evaporative System Check, keep the fuel temperature below 35°C (95°F).
- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on.
- Clear DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC operation).
- Turn the ignition switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on [A].
- Enter the following menu items: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / Evaporative System Check / Automatic Mode.

This confirmation driving pattern is used in the "Perform Confirmation Driving Pattern" procedure of the following diagnostic troubleshooting procedure.

Scheme 364: CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN
- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Turn the Techstream ON.
- Clear DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC operation).
- Turn the ignition switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Monitor / O2 Sensor / Details.
- Check that RES RATE B1S1 is Incomplete.
- Start the engine and warm it up (until the engine coolant temperature is 75°C (167°F) or higher) [A].
- Drive the vehicle at a constant speed between 40 and 120 km/h (25 and 75 mph) for 3 minutes [B]. NOTE: When performing the confirmation driving pattern, obey all speed limits and traffic laws.
- Check the monitor result values on the Techstream by entering the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Monitor / O2 Sensor / Details / RES RATE B1S1.
- If the values indicated on the Techstream do not change, perform READINESS MONITOR DRIVE PATTERN for the A/F sensor and heated oxygen sensor. Refer to «READINESS MONITOR DRIVE PATTERN»(ref-388734-S30606484762011031100000) .
- Note the value of the Monitor Result.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes [C].
- Read the Pending DTCs. HINT: If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning. If a pending DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / All Readiness.
- Input the DTC: P2A00.
- Check the DTC judgment result. Tester Display Description NORMAL DTC judgment completed System normal ABNORMAL DTC judgment completed System abnormal INCOMPLETE DTC judgment not completed Perform driving pattern after confirming DTC enabling conditions UNKNOWN Unable to perform DTC judgment Number of DTCs which do not fulfill DTC preconditions has reached ECU memory limit HINT: If the judgment result shows ABNORMAL, the system has a malfunction.
- If the test result is INCOMPLETE or UNKNOWN and no pending DTC is output, perform a universal trip and check for permanent DTCs. Refer to «DTC CHECK / CLEAR»(ref-388734-S06424090862011031100000) . HINT: If a permanent DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning. If no permanent DTC is output, the system is normal.
- CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P2A00) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch to ON. Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes. Read the DTCs. Note. If the reference pressure difference between the first and second checks is greater than the specification, all the DTCs relating to the reference pressure (P043E, P043F, P2401, P2402 and P2419) are stored.
After a repair, check Monitor Status by performing the Key-Off Monitor Confirmation and Purge Flow Monitor Confirmation described below.
- Key-off monitor confirmation Preconditions The monitor will not run unless: The vehicle has been driven for 10 minutes or more (in a city area or on a freeway) The fuel tank is less than 90% full The altitude is less than 8000 ft (2432 m) The Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) is between 4.4°C and 35°C (40°F and 95°F) The Intake Air Temperature (IAT) is between 4.4°C and 35°C (40°F and 95°F) The vehicle remains stationary (the vehicle speed is 0 km/h [0 mph]) Monitor Conditions Allow the engine to idle for at least 5 minutes. Turn the ignition switch to OFF and wait for 5 to 10 hours. HINT: Do not start the engine until checking Monitor Status. If the engine is started, the steps described above must be repeated. Monitor Status Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch to ON. Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Monitor / Evaporative System. Check the Monitor Status displayed on the tester. HINT: If Incomplete is displayed, the monitor is not completed. Make sure that the preconditions have been met, and perform the Monitor Conditions again.
- Purge flow monitor confirmation (P0441) HINT: Perform this monitor confirmation after the Key-Off Monitor Confirmation shows Complete. Preconditions The monitor will not run unless: The vehicle has been driven for 10 minutes or more (in a city area or on a freeway) The ECT is between 4.4°C and 35°C (40°F and 95°F) The IAT is between 4.4°C and 35°C (40°F and 95°F) Monitor Conditions Release the pressure from the fuel tank by removing and reinstalling the fuel cap. Warm the engine up until the ECT reaches more than 75°C (167°F). Increase the engine speed to 3000 rpm once. Allow the engine to idle and the ON for 1 minute. Monitor Status Turn the ignition switch to OFF (if ON or the engine is running). Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch to ON. Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Monitor. Check the Monitor Status displayed on the tester. HINT: If Incomplete is displayed, the monitor is not completed. Make sure that the preconditions have been met, and perform the Monitor Conditions again.
