PROCEDURE

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (VEHICLE SPEED) Drive the vehicle and check whether the operation of the speedometer in the combination meter assembly is normal. HINT: The vehicle speed sensor is operating normally if the speedometer reading is normal. If the speedometer does not operate, check it by following the procedure described for a speedometer malfunction. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch to ON. Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / ECT / Data List. Drive the vehicle. Read the value displayed on the Techstream. ECT Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note Vehicle Speed Vehicle speed/ Min.: 0 km/h (0 mph) Max.: 255 km/h (158 mph) Actual vehicle speed - OK Vehicle speed displayed on Techstream and speedometer display are equal. NG --> See step 2 OK --> See step 6
  2. CHECK COMBINATION METER SYSTEM Inspect the circuits that send vehicle speed signals to this system in the meter system. Refer to «Speed Signal Circuit»(ref-615252-S38134424382014050900000) . During inspection for the meter service information, if there is an instruction that indicates to go back to inspections for each system, proceed to the next step. NEXT: Go to next step
  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - TCM) Disconnect the combination meter assembly connector. Disconnect the TCM connector. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. Standard Resistance Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition C50-32 (+S) - B31-3 (SPD) Always Below 1 ohms NG --> See step 4 OK --> See step 5
  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (JUNCTION CONNECTOR - TCM) Disconnect the junction connector. Disconnect the TCM connector. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.   2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (DRIVING TEST) NOTE: This test should always be performed with at least 2 people. Warm up the engine. Turn the ignition switch off. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch to ON. Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / ECT / Active Test. HINT: Because the torque converter has not engaged, it may be difficult to obtain the speeds specified in 4th, 5th and 6th gear, however a difference of speed should still be evident following each gear change. ON MALFUNCTION

  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0746) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch to ON. Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / ECT / Trouble Codes. Read the DTCs using the Techstream. RESULT Result Proceed to P0746 and other DTCs are output A Only P0746 is output B HINT: If shift solenoid valve SL1 is stuck off, DTCs for several shift solenoid valves including the malfunctioning shift solenoid valve will be stored. B --> See step 5 A: Go to next step
  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (DRIVING TEST) NOTE: This test should always be performed with at least 2 people. Warm up the engine. Turn the ignition switch off. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch to ON. Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / ECT / Active Test. According to the display on the Techstream, perform the Active Test. HINT: Comparing the gear commanded by the Active Test with the actual gear enables confirmation of the problem. Refer to «FAIL-SAFE CHART [05/2013 - ]»(ref-615254-S02945682862014050900000) . ECT Tester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note Control the Shift Position Operate the shift solenoid valves and set each shift position Press "-->" button: Shift up Press "<--" button: Shift down Can be used to check the operation of the shift solenoid valves. A 10-second interval is required between gear changes. Do not down-shift at high speeds. Doing so will damage the automatic transaxle. [Vehicle Condition] 50 km/h (30 mph) or less NOTE: This test can be conducted when the vehicle is stopped. When shifting gears using the Active Test function, do not operate the accelerator pedal for 2 seconds before and after shifting gears. HINT: The gear commanded by the TCM is shown in the Data List / Shift Status display on the Techstream. Check the vehicle speed and gear when the engine speed is 1000 rpm. HINT: Because the torque converter has not engaged, it may be difficult to obtain the speeds specified in 4th, 5th and 6th gear, however a difference of speed should still be evident following each gear change.
