Mounting the campaign plate
The campaign plate is not factory-mounted in the car. It is instead found in the car's Warranty and Service Manual. For markets requiring marking in the car, the plate must be mounted as follows

- Clean the body surface to which the plate will be affixed using 93 160 907 Cleaning agent. Remove the protective plastic from the rear of the plate.
- Press the plate into place as illustrated.
- Mark the plate in the designated box and close the bonnet.

Basic Bonding Technique
Note. In order to ensure optimal bonding, the assembly components must fit well, the joint flanges must be clean, the prescribed application technique must be followed and working conditions must be good and at the right temperature.
Adhesive is a non-metallic material that joins two assembly components through surface bonding (adhesion) and inner cohesiveness (cohesion). An important element of this process is following the prescribed application technique whether in production or for body repair.
Upon application of the fluid adhesive, the adhesion and cohesion forces are still low. Curing is complete once the adhesive has become solid. The joint withstands loads in accordance with its design.
Good adhesive application (smooth application of adhesive on the surface) on the joint flanges ensures good bonding and adhesion.
Poor adhesive application on the joint flanges leads to poor bonding and adhesion.

Adhesive in the Area of Connection Flanges to the Body
Note. Knowledge of the stress placed on the joint locations is paramount to achieving optimal adhesive joints.
The following applies as a rule of thumb
- Permissible types of stresses on adhesive joints: tensile force, shearing force and compression force.
- Peel forces work negatively on the adhesive joint. Use constructive measures to prevent peeling.

Use of Structural Adhesive Systems in Production - Consequences in Service
Choice of adhesives for use in body shells is based on structural calculations and tests. The approved adhesives must be harmonized with the entire manufacturing process.
The following guidelines apply
- Short application times
- Use of single-component adhesive systems
- High hardening temperatures (approx. 180°C) circulating in the drying kilns
The service department cannot use the adhesives/adhesive systems from production. Completely new systems must be developed, tested and approved for service.
Thus, adhesive systems and application techniques will be used that are tailored to repair work. The bonding technique developed for service shall be the logical result of a modern, economical, safe joining system for body repair at the dealership.
This is beneficial to our ability to compete in the bodywork repair market. The goal is to further develop and refine work methods in order to generate cost effective solutions and maintain a competitive edge - without sacrificing quality.

The anti-corrosion adhesive sealing kit contains a dual component epoxide adhesive.
After hardening, the adhesive has good resistance to tensile shearing, impacts and peeling. The adhesive can be welded with a resistance spot welding machine when wet (observe setting time).
It has excellent bonding properties with properly prepared, clean surfaces (body sheet metal, pretreated aluminum).

- Depending on the installation tolerances of the assembly components, adhesive beads between 0.2 mm and 3 mm (0.007-0.11 in) can be adjusted.
- Soldering and welding must be done at a safe distance of at least 50 mm (2 in) outside of the adhesive zone (to prevent the adhesive from catching fire or damage to the joint due to burnt adhesive).
- When installing new body parts, such as tail lamp corner inserts, apply the bead of adhesive (diameter - min. 4 mm) (0.2 in) to both the body flange and the new part.
- For large components, such as the roof, apply the bead of adhesive (diameter - min. 6 mm) (0.2 in) to the new part.
- Do not work with adhesive at temperatures is below 15°C (59°F).
- Apply and work with the adhesive as quickly as possible.
- The adhesive is compatible with sealing and painting material.
- After application, the adhesive system can be handled for up to 2 hours at 23°C (73.4°F) in order to join, handle, resistance spot weld or secure fixing rivets to sheet metal parts. NOTE: The higher the ambient temperature, the shorter the handling time.
- The adhesive cartridge is intended for use in: Manual guns Cordless guns (with infinitely adjustable control) NOTE: Use of pneumatic guns without plunger could lead to the incorrect mixture of adhesive during application. Before application, the adhesive components are mixed together in a static mixer in the emulsion tube. The second generation of static mixers, which can be screwed onto the cartridge, have considerable reduced the time needed for adhesive application (see data on time). Aids in Preventing Use of Incorrect Adhesive Mixture
- Ensure there are equal levels of the two adhesive components (see «HANDLING INSTRUCTIONS»(ref-653635-S28103797682014090100000) ).
- Note the color of the adhesive mixture: Light blue (homogeneous) correct mixture - continue procedure without interruption. White or dark blue: Incorrect mixture - remove applied material immediately.
- Handling instructions Application at room temperature -21°C to 23°C (70-73°F). Below 15°C (59°F) application is difficult; the viscosity of the adhesive is too high. 15-30°C (59-86°F) is the optimal range for handling. Never heat the adhesive cartridge (heat gun) or place it in hot water.

- Never touch high-voltage-bearing components (e.g.: ignition system, xenon lamps) - can be fatal.
- Before disconnecting the ground cable from the battery in Vauxhall vehicles, disarm the power sounder. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery within 15 seconds of switching off the ignition.
- If an alarm is unintentionally triggered via the power sounder, switch on the ignition (battery connected) in order to override the alarm.
- When performing work where there is a danger of an electrical short circuit, disconnect the earth cable from the battery. The following procedure must be observed to avoid injury to persons and damage to sensitive electrical components: The battery terminals must be covered so that accidental contact does not occur because the battery cable has gradually moved backwards. This also prevents accidental contact during assembly, e.g. with bright metal components or tools. If individual connection cables forming part of the battery connection have to be dismantled, always remove the earth clip on the battery terminal first so that all the power circuits on the vehicle are free from voltage. Non-adherence to this ruling can lead to electronic components being damaged. Reconnection takes place in reverse order, the earth clip is the last to be connected to the battery.
- Never connect/disconnect control unit or miscellaneous electronic component wiring harness plugs with the ignition switched on to avoid damaging the control units.
- Never pull on cable when disconnecting wiring harness plugs. Carefully release locking mechanism at wiring harness plug.
- When cleaning and contact sprays are being used, the manufacturer's recommendations must be followed. Improper use can damage sensitive electrical and electronic components.
- When returning a unit containing a CD unit (e.g. navigation control unit, CD changer), remove all CD's to avoid damage to the laser head or CD.
- Disconnect the battery from the on-board power supply before charging or rapid charging. Never start the vehicle using a rapid charger. Overvoltage in the electrical system can damage control units.
- When programming the control unit memory system, ensure that no persons are present in the interior - risk of injury!
- After completing repair operations, ensure that wiring harness connections and battery connections are correctly seated and that ground connections have been made correctly. Defective electrical connections cause functional problems and destroy control units.
- Wiring harnesses and wiring troughs which are released or removed during repair work must be refastened in their original positions using genuine Aftersales parts (cable ties, clips, wiring trough brackets, etc.).
- Disconnecting the ground cable from the battery automatically erases the contents of certain electronic system memories (e.g. electric window winder, time and date). After reconnecting the ground cable to the battery, these volatile memories must be reprogrammed and audio equipment decoded.
Vehicle Battery
- Fluid-filled vehicle batteries must only be stored and charged in well-ventilated areas. Gaseous hydrogen released when the battery is charged is lighter than air and combines with air to form an explosive mixture. Avoid the formation of sparks, smoking and naked flames.
- If, on batteries fitted with a "magic eye", this is colorless or light yellow, the acid level is too low and overheating may occur during recharging - danger of explosion. Only charge undamaged batteries.
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal before charging or rapid charging. Never start the vehicle using a rapid charger. Overvoltage (> 16 Volts) in the electrical system can damage control units.
- The recommended battery acid temperature during charging is between 10 °C (50 °F) and 30 °C (86 °F). Reduce the charging current if the temperature exceeds 50 °C (122 °F) and terminate charging if it exceeds 55 °C (131 °F). The battery cannot be charged at temperatures below 0 °C (32 °F). The temperature of the battery acid can be estimated based on the temperature of the battery case.
- Electrolyte (sulphuric acid) escaping from vehicle batteries can lead to serious acid burns - danger of injury. Escaping electrolyte must be diluted and flushed away using large volumes of water, soaked up with sawdust or with an absorbent cloth.
- Due to the quiescent current of control units (e.g. ATWS, radio units), the battery may become discharged during long standing periods (e.g. stored vehicles) - disconnect battery and recharge if necessary.

Metric Fasteners
This vehicle provides fastener dimensions using the metric system. Most metric fasteners are approximate in diameter to equivalent English fasteners. Make replacements using fasteners of the same nominal diameter, thread pitch, and strength.
A number marking identifies the OE metric fasteners except cross-recess head screws. The number also indicates the strength of the fastener material. A Posidrive® or Type 1A cross-recess identifies a metric cross-recess screw. For best results, use a Type 1A cross-recess screwdriver, or equivalent, in Posidrive® recess head screws.
GM Engineering Standards and North American Industries have adopted a portion of the ISO-defined standard metric fastener sizes. The purpose was to reduce the number of fastener sizes used while retaining the best thread qualities in each thread size. For example, the metric M6.0 X 1 screw, with nearly the same diameter and 25.4 threads per inch replaced the English 1/4-20 and 1/4-28 screws. The thread pitch is midway between the English coarse and fine thread pitches.

The most commonly used metric fastener strength property classes are 9.8 and 10.9. The class identification is embossed on the head of each bolt. The English, inch strength classes range from grade 2 to grade 8. Radial lines are embossed on the head of each bolt in order to identify the strength class. The number of lines on the head of the bolt is 2 lines less than the actual grade. For example, a grade 8 bolt will have 6 radial lines on the bolt head. Some metric nuts are marked with a single digit strength identification number on the nut face.
The correct fasteners are available through GM SPO. Many metric fasteners available in the aftermarket parts channels are designed to metric standards of countries other than the United States, and may exhibit the following
- Lower strength
- No numbered head marking system
- Wrong thread pitch
The metric fasteners on GM products are designed to new, international standards. The following are the common sizes and pitches, except for special applications
- M6.0 X 1
- M8 x 1.25
- M10 x 1.5

Adhesive Coated Fasteners
These fasteners accomplish the thread interface by the presence of a thread-locking compound on the fastener threads.

- The fastener and the fastener counterpart are clean and not damaged
- There is no rust on the fastener

- WARNING: Wear safety glasses in order to avoid eye damage. NOTE: Refer to the thread repair kit manufacturer's instructions regarding the size of the drill and tap to use. Avoid any buildup of chips. Back out the tap every few turns and remove the chips. Determine the size, the pitch, and the depth of the damaged thread. If necessary, adjust the stop collars on the cutting tool and tap to the required depth.
- Drill out the damaged threads. Clean out any chips.
- Lubricate the tap with light engine oil. Tap the hole. Clean the threads.
- Thread the thread insert onto the mandrel of the installer. Engage the tang of the insert onto the end of the mandrel.
- NOTE: The insert should be flush to one turn below the surface. Lubricate the insert with light engine oil, except when installing in aluminum and install the insert.
- If the tang of the insert does not break off when backing out the installer, break the tang off with a drift.

Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
| WARNING | Diesel engine vehicles equipped with an engine coolant heater, must be lifted from the rear rocker panel flanges. Failure to lift the rear of the vehicle from these locations could damage the engine coolant heater fuel pressure pump. |

Note. To prevent damage to components and aggregates when raising vehicles, apply lifting tools at the points shown. The manufacturer's guidelines for handling lifting tools must be observed. When jacking up a vehicle with the on-board tool, follow the instructions in the Owner's Manual.
To prevent damage to the rocker panel, the gap (1) between lifting tool and rocker panel has to be minimum 15 mm (0.6 in) .

ABS Component Handling Warning
| WARNING | Certain components in the Antilock Brake System (ABS) are not intended to be serviced individually. Attempting to remove or disconnect certain system components may result in personal injury and/or improper system operation. Only those components with approved removal and installation procedures should be serviced. |
Approved Equipment for Collision Repair
| WARNING | To avoid personal injury when exposed to welding flashes or to galvanized (Zinc Oxide) metal toxic fumes while grinding/cutting on any type of metal or sheet molded compound, you must work in a properly ventilated area, wearing an approved respirator, eye protection, earplugs, welding gloves, and protective clothing. |
Assistant Driving Warning
| WARNING | An assistant should drive the vehicle while the technician checks for the location of the reported condition. Otherwise, personal injury could result. |
Battery Disconnect Warning
| WARNING | Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components. For Vehicles equipped with OnStar® (UE1) with Back Up Battery: The Back Up Battery is a redundant power supply to allow limited OnStar® functionality in the event of a main vehicle battery power disruption to the VCIM (OnStar® module). Do not disconnect the main vehicle battery or remove the OnStar® fuse with the ignition key in any position other than OFF. Retained accessory power (RAP) should be allowed to time out or be disabled (simply opening the driver door should disable RAP) before disconnecting power. Disconnecting power to the OnStar® module in any way while the ignition is On or with RAP activated may cause activation of the OnStar® Back-Up Battery (BUB) system and will discharge and permanently damage the back-up battery. Once the Back-Up Battery is activated it will stay on until it has completely discharged. The BUB is not rechargeable and once activated the BUB must be replaced. |
Brake Dust Warning
| WARNING | Avoid taking the following actions when you service wheel brake parts: Do not grind brake linings. Do not sand brake linings. Do not clean wheel brake parts with a dry brush or with compressed air. Some models or aftermarket brake parts may contain asbestos fibers which can become airborne in dust. Breathing dust with asbestos fibers may cause serious bodily harm. Use a water-dampened cloth in order to remove any dust on brake parts. Equipment is available commercially in order to perform this washing function. These wet methods prevent fibers from becoming airborne. |
Cleaning Solvent Warning
| WARNING | Bodily injury may occur if the cleaning solvent is inhaled or exposed to the skin. |
Collision Sectioning Warning
| WARNING | Sectioning should be performed only in the recommended areas. Failure to do so may compromise the structural integrity of the vehicle and cause personal injury if the vehicle is in a collision. |
Cracked Window Warning
| WARNING | If a window is cracked but still intact, crisscross the window with masking tape in order to reduce the risk of damage or personal injury. |
Defroster Outlet Warning
| WARNING | If broken glass falls into the defroster outlets, it can be blown into the passenger compartment and cause personal injury. |
Differential Clutch Hydraulic Pressure Warning
| WARNING | The hydraulic pressure in the differential clutch is very high. To prevent personal injury, wait for at least 10 minutes before removing any parts from the differential clutch. |
Exhaust Service Warning
| WARNING | In order to avoid being burned, do not service the exhaust system while it is still hot. Service the system when it is cool. |
Eye Protection Warning
| WARNING | Approved safety glasses and gloves should be worn when performing this procedure to reduce the chance of personal injury. |
Foam Sound Deadeners Warning
| WARNING | Foam sound deadeners must be removed from areas within 152.4 mm (6 in) of where flame is to be used for body repairs. When reinstalling foam sound deadeners, avoid inhaling fumes as bodily injury may result. |
Fuel and Evaporative Emission Pipe Warning
| WARNING | In order to reduce the risk of fire and personal injury observe the following items: Replace all nylon fuel pipes that are nicked, scratched or damaged during installation, do not attempt to repair the sections of the nylon fuel pipes Do not hammer directly on the fuel harness body clips when installing new fuel pipes. Damage to the nylon pipes may result in a fuel leak. Always cover nylon vapor pipes with a wet towel before using a torch near them. Also, never expose the vehicle to temperatures higher than 115°C (239° F) for more than one hour, or more than 90°C (194° F) for any extended period. Apply a few drops of clean engine oil to the male pipe ends before connecting fuel pipe fittings. This will ensure proper reconnection and prevent a possible fuel leak. (During normal operation, the O-rings located in the female connector will swell and may prevent proper reconnection if not lubricated.) |
Fuel Gauge Leak Warning
| WARNING | Wrap a shop towel around the fuel pressure connection in order to reduce the risk of fire and personal injury. The towel will absorb any fuel leakage that occurs during the connection of the fuel pressure gauge. Place the towel in an approved container when the connection of the fuel pressure gauge is complete. |

Relieving Fuel Pressure Warning

After you relieve the fuel system pressure, a small amount of fuel may be released when servicing the fuel lines, the fuel injection pump, or the connections. Avoid Touching the Bulb Caution

Fastener Caution
| WARNING | Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners, or fastener joint surfaces, unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems. When using fasteners that are threaded directly into plastic, use extreme care not to strip the mating plastic part(s). Use hand tools only, and do not use any kind of impact or power tools. Fastener should be hand tightened, fully seated, and not stripped. |

Heated Oxygen and Oxygen Sensor Caution
| WARNING | Do not remove the pigtail from either the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) or the oxygen sensor (O2S). Removing the pigtail or the connector will affect sensor operation. Handle the oxygen sensor carefully. Do not drop the HO2S. Keep the in-line electrical connector and the louvered end free of grease, dirt, or other contaminants. Do not use cleaning solvents of any type. Do not repair the wiring, connector or terminals. Replace the oxygen sensor if the pigtail wiring, connector, or terminal is damaged. This external clean air reference is obtained by way of the oxygen sensor signal and heater wires. Any attempt to repair the wires, connectors, or terminals could result in the obstruction of the air reference and degraded sensor performance. The following guidelines should be used when servicing the heated oxygen sensor: Do not apply contact cleaner or other materials to the sensor or vehicle harness connectors. These materials may get into the sensor causing poor performance. Do not damage the sensor pigtail and harness wires in such a way that the wires inside are exposed. This could provide a path for foreign materials to enter the sensor and cause performance problems. Ensure the sensor or vehicle lead wires are not bent sharply or kinked. Sharp bends or kinks could block the reference air path through the lead wire. Do not remove or defeat the oxygen sensor ground wire, where applicable. Vehicles that utilize the ground wired sensor may rely on this ground as the only ground contact to the sensor. Removal of the ground wire will cause poor engine performance. Ensure that the peripheral seal remains intact on the vehicle harness connector in order to prevent damage due to water intrusion. The engine harness may be repaired using Packard's Crimp and Splice Seals Terminal Repair Kit. Under no circumstances should repairs be soldered since this could result in the air reference being obstructed. |

| WARNING | To avoid paint damage, protect the area surrounding the part which you are removing or installing. |
Pipe Wrench Positioning Caution
| WARNING | The pipe wrench must be placed at the valve end of the steering gear and positioned up against the inner tie rod housing. Placing the pipe wrench in any other location will cause damage to the steering gear. |
Power Steering Hose Disconnected Caution
| WARNING | Do not start the vehicle with any power steering gear inlet or outlet hoses disconnected. When disconnected, plug or cap all openings of components. Failure to do so could result in contamination or loss of power steering fluid and damage to the system. |
Silicon Contamination of Heated Oxygen Sensors Caution
| WARNING | Contamination of the oxygen sensor can result from the use of an inappropriate RTV sealant (not oxygen sensor safe) or excessive engine coolant or oil consumption. Remove the HO2S and visually inspect the portion of the sensor exposed to the exhaust stream in order to check for contamination. If contaminated, the portion of the sensor exposed to the exhaust stream will have a white powdery coating. Silicon contamination causes a high but false HO2S signal voltage (rich exhaust indication). The control module will then reduce the amount of fuel delivered to the engine, causing a severe driveability problem. Eliminate the source of contamination before replacing the oxygen sensor. |
Steering Wheel in the Full Turn Position Caution
| WARNING | Do not hold the steering wheel in the full turn position longer than 5 seconds, as damage to the steering pump may result. |
Steering Wheel Straight and Column Locked Caution
| WARNING | With wheels of the vehicle facing straight ahead, secure the steering wheel utilizing steering column anti-rotation pin, steering column lock, or a strap to prevent rotation. Locking of the steering column will prevent damage and a possible malfunction of the SIR system. The steering wheel must be secured in position before disconnecting the following components: The steering column The intermediate shaft(s) The steering gear After disconnecting these components, do not rotate the steering wheel or move the front tires and wheels. Failure to follow this procedure may cause the SIR coil assembly to become un-centered and cause possible damage to the SIR coil. |
Transmission Overfill Caution
| WARNING | Check the transmission fluid level immediately after adding fluid and before vehicle operation. Do not overfill the transmission. An overfilled transmission may result in foaming or fluid to be expelled out the vent tube when the vehicle is operated. Overfilling will result in possible damage to the transmission. |
Valve Lifter Priming Caution
| WARNING | Ensure each valve lifter is filled with clean engine oil and the valve lifter does not tip over (plunger down) before the installation of the valve lifters. The loss of oil in the valve lifter lower pressure chamber or the dry stroking/cycling of the valve lifter plunger will allow air to travel into the high pressure chamber of the valve lifter. Air in the high pressure chamber of the valve lifter may not be purged causing extensive engine component damage. |
Window Edge Damage Caution
| WARNING | Avoid damage to the window from impacting objects due to an exposed edge. The window must be 1 mm (0.025 in) below the surface of the sheet metal to avoid window damage. |

BACKGROUND
In GDS (Global Diagnostic System) on the SAAB 9-5 (650) it is possible to read all Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) and ECU (Electronic Control Unit) information and store as a log report. The benefit of doing this is to get the exact software status and DTC in all ECUs of the car when it arrives to the workshop.
This log report is a great help when contacting technical assistant center (ASAC).
The logfile is saved in the GDS and it is accessible when the vehicle has left the workshop.
Note. It is only the latest report that is stored in GDS, which means if you make a new report the former is erased unless you store it locally on a computer.
