Scheme 42: Range Selector Lever Cable Adjustment
  1. Lift the lever boot up from the center console, carefully with a suitable tool.
  2. Ensure the transmission are in the PARK position.
  3. Release the shift control cable adjustment lock cover (1)
  4. The shift control cable and cable end are free to slide to proper adjustment.
  5. Ensure the shift lever are in the PARK position.
  6. Depress the shift control cable adjustment lock (1) to lock the adjustment.
  7. Inspect the operation of the starting system with the shift lever in each position. The engine should only crank when the lever is in the PARK or NEUTRAL position.

Preliminary Procedure Remove the battery tray. Refer to BATTERY TRAY REPLACEMENT . Remove the lever linkage. Refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION RANGE SELECTOR LEVER REPLACEMENT . Disconnect the TCM electrical connector.

2Transmission Control Module Procedure Set the inner, rotating section of the control module so that the arrow is pointing towards the marking on the housing. Carry out service programming system (SPS). Refer to SERVICE PROGRAMMING SYSTEM (SPS) . Carry out adaptation, resetting. Refer to TRANSMISSION ADAPTIVE FUNCTIONS . Program the gear selector position sensor in neutral, using the scan tool. NOTE: Twisting or tilting of the transmission control module electrical connector while disconnecting may result in bent or misaligned electrical terminal pins.

Scheme 50: Removal Procedure
  1. Remove the engine shield. Refer to «ENGINE SHIELD REPLACEMENT»(ref-653645-S26686369502014090100000) .
  2. Loosen the rear part of the front wheelhouse front liner. Refer to «FRONT WHEELHOUSE FRONT LINER REPLACEMENT»(ref-653645-S26257017002014090100000) .
  3. Remove front transmission mount to subframe fastener. Refer to «TRANSMISSION FRONT MOUNT REPLACEMENT»(ref-653642-S18065893682014090100000) .
  4. Lower the vehicle.
  5. Remove the battery tray. Refer to «BATTERY TRAY REPLACEMENT»(ref-653644-S29783833042014090100000) .
  6. WARNING: In order to avoid oil pan damage and possible engine failure, insert a block of wood that spans the width of the oil pan bottom between the oil pan and the jack support. Support the transmission using a jack.
  7. Remove transmission mount fasteners (1)
  8. Lower the transmission.
  9. Remove transmission mount fasteners (2).
  10. Remove the left side transmission mount (4).

Scheme 51: Installation Procedure
  1. Install the left side transmission mount (4).
  2. Refer to «FASTENER CAUTION»(ref-653635-S22306564902014090100000) . Install the gearbox mount fasteners (2) and tighten to 22 Nm (16 lb ft) .
  3. Lift the transmission.
  4. Loosely fit the transmission mount fasteners (1) with NEW bolts.
  5. Raise the vehicle.
  6. Attach the front transmission mount to subframe fastener. Refer to «TRANSMISSION FRONT MOUNT REPLACEMENT»(ref-653642-S18065893682014090100000) .
  7. Support the transmission using the CH-49290 centering adapter.
  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Tighten the transmission bracket retainer (1) to 50 Nm 37 lb ft) + 60 degrees + 15 degrees .
  10. Raise the vehicle.
  11. Remove the centering adapter CH-49290.
  12. Install the engine sight shield. Refer to «ENGINE SHIELD REPLACEMENT»(ref-653645-S26686369502014090100000) .
  13. Fit the rear part of the front wheelhouse front liner. Refer to «FRONT WHEELHOUSE FRONT LINER REPLACEMENT»(ref-653645-S26257017002014090100000) .
  14. Lower the vehicle.
  15. Install the battery tray. Refer to «BATTERY TRAY REPLACEMENT»(ref-653644-S29783833042014090100000) .

Preliminary Procedure Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to LIFTING AND JACKING THE VEHICLE . Remove the left front wheel and tire assembly. Refer to TIRE AND WHEEL REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION . 1Control Valve Body Fastener (Qty: 11) Refer to FASTENER CAUTION . Procedure Install the control valve body cover bolts hand tight. Use locking agent on ALL bolts. Refer to ADHESIVES, FLUIDS, LUBRICANTS, AND SEALERS . Tighten the control valve body cover bolts in the sequence shown. Tighten 13 Nm (10 lb ft)
2Control Valve Body Cover Procedure Install a 3 mm (0.125 in) bead of RTV sealer on to the control valve body cover. Clean any gasket material from the control valve body cover and inspect the gasket mounting surface. Check the transaxle fluid level. Refer to TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL AND CONDITION CHECK . NOTE: Do not pry with a tool on the transaxle control valve body cover, case or sealing surfaces.

  1. Remove control valve body cover. Refer to «CONTROL VALVE BODY COVER REPLACEMENT»(ref-653642-S42883878952014090100000) .
  2. Detach the wiring harness for the solenoid valves. (The illustration shows how to use a screwdriver for detaching the different connectors.) 2.1. Detach 8 connectors from the solenoid valves (1). 2.2. Unplug the 2 connectors from the engine speed sensors (2). 2.3. Remove the wiring harness from the 2 retaining clips (3).
  3. Unplug the engine speed sensor connectors. Detach the connectors from the two mountings (4).
  4. Remove the temperature sensor. 4.1. Remove the screw (1). 4.2. Lift away the attaching plate (2). 4.3. Remove the temperature sensor (3).
  5. Move the wiring harness for the solenoid valves and the wiring harness for the engine speed sensors aside.
  6. Remove the cover (1). 6.1. Remove the screws (2). 6.2. Remove the gasket (3).
  7. Remove the valve housing. 7.1. Undo the fasteners in the specified order. 7.2. Remove the fasteners.
  8. Lower the car to the floor.
  9. Unhook the clutch rod (1).
  10. NOTE: The ducts are filled with oil. Carefully lift the valve housing upwards.

  1. Clean the sealing surfaces.
  2. Clean the threads (arrows).
  3. Install the valve housing. 3.1. Hook in the clutch rod (1). 3.2. Install 6 fasteners.
  4. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to «LIFTING AND JACKING THE VEHICLE»(ref-653635-S17278308762014090100000) .
  5. Install the cover. 5.1. Install a new gasket (3). 5.2. Install the cover (1). 5.3. Install two screws (2).
  6. Finish fitting the valve housing.
  7. Refer to «FASTENER CAUTION»(ref-653635-S22306564902014090100000) . Tighten the 8 fasteners (arrows) in the specified order. Tighten 10 Nm (88 lb in)
  8. Install the temperature sensor (3). 8.1. Moisten the temperature sensor O-ring with gearbox oil. 8.2. Install the attaching plate (2). 8.3. Tighten the fastener (1). Tighten 10 Nm (88 lb in)
  9. Plug in the engine speed sensor connectors. Attach the connectors to the two mountings (4).
  10. Plug in the connector for the solenoid valves. 10.1. Secure the wiring harness in the 2 retaining clips (3). 10.2. Plug in the 2 connectors for the engine speed sensors (2). 10.3. Plug in the 8 connectors for the solenoid valves (1).
  11. Install control valve body. Refer to «CONTROL VALVE BODY COVER REPLACEMENT»(ref-653642-S42883878952014090100000) .
  12. Lower the vehicle.

Refer to LIFTING AND JACKING THE VEHICLE . Place a drain pan under the transaxle to catch any spilled transaxle fluid. Remove the intermediate shaft. If equipped with an axle seal dust cover, discard it and do not replace it. Clean the seal bore in the transaxle housing. Check the transaxle fluid level. Refer to TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL AND CONDITION CHECK .

Refer to LIFTING AND JACKING THE VEHICLE . Place a drain pan under the transaxle to catch any spilled transaxle fluid. Remove the left front wheel drive shaft from the transmission. Preliminary Procedure Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to LIFTING AND JACKING THE VEHICLE . Remove the transmission. Refer to TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT (AWD, LAU/A28NER) or TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT (FWD, LHU/A20NFT) or TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT (AWD, LHU/A20NFT) . Place a drain pan under the vehicle.
1Torque Converter WARNING: Support the back side of the torque converter housing while installing the seal. Install the seal until it stops moving. Applying excessive pressure to the seal once it is seated could cause damage to the torque converter housing casting. Procedure Mount the DT-899 Torque converter Remover/Installer to the converter and lift it out. Check that the torque converter has reached the correct position by placing a steel ruler on the torque converter shell's mating surface and measure the surface between the mating surface and the driving plate contact surface on the torque converter. The distance should be: LAU/A28NER: min. 9 mm. LHU/A20NFT: min. 9 mm. LBS/A20DTH: min. 15 mm. LBY/A20DTR: min. 15 mm. Special Tools DT-899 Torque converter Remover/Installer For equivalent regional tools, refer to SPECIAL TOOLS .

  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Remove the catalytic converter front heat shield (1).
  10. Remove the transmission heat shield (1).
  11. Remove the turbo pressure hose (1) from the turbo.
  12. Remove the shift lever cable from the selector on the transmission. Refer to «RANGE SELECTOR LEVER CABLE REPLACEMENT»(ref-653642-S36673880132014090100000) .
  13. Remove the connector (1) from the transmission control module.
  14. Remove the coolant fluid pipe (1) from the thermostat housing.
  15. Remove the upper transmission fasteners (1) using the special socket DT-32025063.
  16. Support the engine with engine bridge EN-47649 and retainer EN-47650.
  17. Raise the vehicle.
  18. Remove the transmission front mount. Refer to «TRANSMISSION FRONT MOUNT REPLACEMENT»(ref-653642-S18065893682014090100000) .
  19. Drain the transmission fluid. Refer to «TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL AND CONDITION CHECK»(ref-653642-S41840466012014090100000) .
  20. Remove the oil cooler hose connection (1) from the transmission.

  22. Lower the vehicle.

  24. Lower the engine enough to access the transmission.
  25. Raise the vehicle.
  26. Place the transmission fixture DT-47648 on basic frame CH-49647 and attach to the transmission in the holes where the front and rear brackets are mounted.

  29. Separate the transmission from the engine.

  10. Remove engine bridge EN-47649 and retainer EN-47650.

  12. Fit the shift lever cable from the selector on the transmission. Refer to «RANGE SELECTOR LEVER CABLE REPLACEMENT»(ref-653642-S36673880132014090100000) .
  13. Fit the connector to the transmission control module.
  14. Fit the coolant fluid pipe to the thermostat housing (1) and install a NEW O-ring.
  15. Fit the turbo pressure hose (1) to the turbo.
  16. Fit the transmission heat shield (1).
  17. Fit the catalytic converter front heat shield (1).
  18. Raise the vehicle.
  19. Fit the oil cooler hose connection (1) to the transmission and tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb in) .
  20. Fit the fastener (3) to the converter. Refer to «TORQUE CONVERTER REPLACEMENT»(ref-653642-S09946112952014090100000) . Apply locking agent on the bolts and tighten to 60 Nm (44 lb ft) .
  21. Fit the ground cable (1) and the clip to wiring harness and fastener to coolant pipe bracket (2).
