SELF-DIAGNOSTICS

Note. The self-diagnostic function detects abnormal conditions of A/C control unit, related sensors and wirings. Self-diagnostic function includes automatic control back-up, which provides substitute value in case of system failure.

RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES

  1. During ACC control module calibration any stored and/or detected DTCs will be displayed in place of temperature. A number from 0-23 will be displayed for approximately 3 seconds each. Fan speed bars are used to indicate the number of DTCs stored. A maximum of 6 DTCs can be stored at any time.   2. Connect Saab Tech 2 or OBD-II compliant scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located under instrument panel, below steering column. Turn ignition on. Following scan tool manufacturer's instructions, read and note DTCs. See «ACC CONTROL MODULE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES»(ref-97912-S18380489822001051400000) and «DICE CONTROL MODULE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES»(ref-97912-S40319338932001051400000) tables.
  3. Because a functional problem in one system can be caused from a problem in another system it is important to read DTCs from all vehicle systems. Compare DTCs with customer complaint. DTC that most closely corresponds with customer complaint is probably caused by primary malfunction.

DICE CONTROL MODULE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (1)

Fault Symptoms

Temperature in cabin may seem too hot or too cold in relation to selected temperature.

Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC) located under steering column. Using scan tool, contact ACC control module and check for DTC B2945. If DTC B2945 is not displayed, go to next step. If DTC B2945 is displayed, go to «DTC B2945: SENSOR GROUND»(ref-97912-S07987269892001051400000).
  2. Locate solar sensor under windshield, at center of dashboard. Disconnect solar sensor 4-pin connector. Connect a test light between battery voltage and harness side of sensor 4-pin connector terminal No. 4 (Yellow/Green wire). (Scheme 2) If test light comes on, go to next step. If test light does not come on, repair Yellow/Green wire between solar sensor and ACC control module 39-pin connector terminal No. 36. (Scheme 3) When repairs are complete, go to step 4.
  3. Connect at 1.5-volt battery between harness side of sensor 4-pin connector terminal No. 3 (Brown/Red wire) and terminal No. 4 (Yellow/Green wire). Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, contact ACC control module and read solar sensor value. If value is approximately 1.5 volts, replace solar sensor. If value is not approximately 1.5 volts, repair Brown/Red wire between solar sensor and ACC control module 39-pin connector terminal No. 16. When repairs are complete, go to next step.
  4. Using scan tool, clear all DTCs from all systems. Recheck A/C system operation for original complaint. If A/C system is operating properly and no DTC has been detected, repair is complete. If a DTC has been detected, a control module may need to be replaced. See «CONTROL MODULES»(ref-97912-S29574280822001051400000) under COMPONENT TESTS.

Temperature in cabin may seem too hot or too cold in relation to selected temperature. When DTC sets, ACC control module will use a default value based on relative position of mixed-air damper multiplied by engine coolant temperature.

  1. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC) located under steering column. Using scan tool, contact ACC control module and check for DTC B2945. If DTC B2945 is not displayed, go to next step. If DTC B2945 is displayed, go to «DTC B2945: SENSOR GROUND»(ref-97912-S07987269892001051400000).
  2. Disconnect 10-pin connector located on passenger-side of climate control unit. Connect a test light between battery voltage and harness side of 10-pin connector terminal No. 9 (Blue/Red wire on 2000 models; Red/Blue wire on 2001 models). See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-97912-S27444300572001051400000). If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair wire (Blue/Red on 2000 models; Red/Blue on 2001 models) between 10-pin connector and ACC control module 39-pin connector terminal No. 38. (Scheme 3) When repairs are complete, go to step 5.
  3. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, contact ACC control module and read mixed-air temperature sensor value. With 10-pin disconnected sensor value should be 4.7-5.0 volts. If sensor value is as specified, go to next step. If sensor value is not as specified, repair open in Violet wire between 10-pin connector terminal No. 10 and ACC control module 39-pin connector terminal No. 19. When repairs are complete, go to step 5.
  4. Connect a fused jumper wire between harness side of 10-pin connector terminals No. 9 (Blue/Red wire on 2000 models; Red/Blue wire on 2001 models) and No. 10 (Violet wire). Using scan tool, contact ACC control module and read mixed-air temperature sensor value. If sensor value is zero volts, replace mixed-air temperature sensor. If sensor value is not zero volts, repair short in Violet wire between 10-pin connector terminal No. 10 and ACC control module 39-pin connector terminal No. 19. When repairs are complete, go to next step.
  5. Using scan tool, clear all DTCs from all systems. Recheck A/C system operation for original complaint. If A/C system is operating properly and no DTC has been detected, repair is complete. If a DTC has been detected, a control module may need to be replaced. See «CONTROL MODULES»(ref-97912-S29574280822001051400000) under COMPONENT TESTS.

DTC 1350: CABIN TEMPERATURE SENSOR

Note. DTC will be cleared after ignition has been turned on 20 times if no fault conditions are detected. DTC can be cleared using scan tool.

Temperature in cabin may seem too hot or too cold in relation to selected temperature. When DTC sets, ACC control module will initially use ambient (outside) temperature as a default value when ignition is turned on. Default value used will then be a mean value of calculated temperatures at head height of front seats.

  1. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC) located under steering column. Using scan tool, contact ACC control module and check for DTC B2945. If DTC B2945 is not displayed, go to next step. If DTC B2945 is displayed, go to «DTC B2945: SENSOR GROUND»(ref-97912-S07987269892001051400000).
  2. Locate cabin temperature sensor in instrument panel below ACC panel and disconnect 4-pin connector. Connect a test light between battery voltage and cabin temperature sensor connector terminal No. 2 (Yellow/Brown wire on 2000 models; Brown/Yellow wire on 2001 models). See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-97912-S27444300572001051400000). If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair wire (Yellow/Brown on 2000 models; Brown/Yellow on 2001 models) between sensor and ACC control module 39-pin connector terminal No. 39. (Scheme 3) When repairs are complete, go to step 5.
  3. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, contact ACC control module and read cabin temperature sensor value. If value is 4.7-5.0 volts, go to next step. If value is not 4.7-5.0 volts, repair open in Blue/Yellow wire between sensor 4-pin connector terminal No. 3 and ACC control module connector terminal No. 20. When repairs are complete, go to step 5.
  4. Connect a fused jumper wire between sensor 4-pin connector terminals No. 2 (Yellow/Brown wire on 2000 models; Brown/Yellow wire on 2001 models) and No. 3 (Blue/Yellow wire). Using scan tool, contact ACC control module and read cabin temperature sensor value. If value is zero volts, replace cabin temperature sensor. If value is not zero volts, short in Blue/Yellow wire. When repairs are complete, go to next step.
  5. Using scan tool, clear all DTCs from all systems. Recheck A/C system operation for original complaint. If A/C system is operating properly and no DTC has been detected, repair is complete. If a DTC has been detected, a control module may need to be replaced. See «CONTROL MODULES»(ref-97912-S29574280822001051400000) under COMPONENT TESTS.

ACC control panel does not function.

Replace ACC control module with a known good ACC control module. Using scan tool, clear all DTCs from all systems. Recheck A/C system operation for original complaint. If A/C system is operating properly and no DTC has been detected, repair is complete. If a DTC has been detected, a control module may need to be replaced. See CONTROL MODULES under COMPONENT TESTS.

Temperature in cabin may seem too cold or too hot in relation to selected temperature. Air distribution does not correspond with illuminated symbol in ACC panel display.

  1. Disconnect air distribution stepping motor 6-pin connector located on front of climate control unit. see scheme 2 Connect a Red/Green LED test light between stepping motor connector terminals No. 1 (Green wire) and No. 3 (Red wire). Simultaneously press AUTO and OFF buttons on ACC control panel to activate ACC system calibration. see scheme 1 If both LEDs illuminate, go to next step. If both LEDs do not illuminate, repair faulty circuit between stepping motor and ACC control module. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-97912-S27444300572001051400000). When repairs are complete, go to step 3.
  2. Connect a Red/Green LED test light between stepping motor connector terminals No. 4 (Blue wire) and No. 6 (Black wire). Simultaneously press AUTO and OFF buttons on ACC control panel to activate ACC system calibration. If both LEDs illuminate, replace air distribution stepping motor. If LEDs do not illuminate, repair faulty circuit between stepping motor and ACC control module. When repairs are complete, go to next step.
  3. Using scan tool, clear all DTCs from all systems. Recheck A/C system operation for original complaint. If A/C system is operating properly and no DTC has been detected, repair is complete. If a DTC has been detected, a control module may need to be replaced. See «CONTROL MODULES»(ref-97912-S29574280822001051400000) under COMPONENT TESTS.

Temperature in cabin may seem too cold or too hot in relation to selected temperature. Air distribution does not correspond with illuminated symbol in ACC panel display.

  1. Remove air distribution damper stepping motor without disconnecting 6-pin connector. see scheme 2 Simultaneously press AUTO and OFF buttons on ACC control panel to activate ACC system calibration. If stepping motor operates, go to next step. If stepping motor does not operate, replace air distribution flap stepping motor. When repairs are complete, go to step 3.
  2. With stepping motor removed, manually operate air distribution damper. Ensure damper is not sticking or has loose or damaged components. If damper is okay, reinstall damper stepping motor and calibrate ACC system. Go to next step.
  3. If no new DTCs are detected, repair is complete. Using scan tool, clear all DTCs from all systems. Recheck A/C system operation for original complaint. If A/C system is operating properly and no DTC has been detected, repair is complete. If a DTC has been detected, a control module may need to be replaced. See «CONTROL MODULES»(ref-97912-S29574280822001051400000) under COMPONENT TESTS.

There is misting and/or bad air in cabin. Temperature in cabin may seem too hot in relation to selected temperature. When DTC sets, ACC control module will turn off activation output to air recirculation stepping motor.

  1. Disconnect air recirculation stepping motor 2-pin connector. Turn ignition on. Connect a Red/Green LED test light between stepping motor harness connector terminals No. 1 (Red wire) and No. 2 (Yellow wire). See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-97912-S27444300572001051400000) . Press ACC control panel air recirculation button on and off several times to activate air recirculation damper stepping motor. If Red and Green LEDs alternately illuminate as air recirculation is switched between outside air and recirculated air, replace air recirculation damper motor. If both Red and Green LEDs do not alternately illuminate, repair Yellow wire or Red wire. When repairs are completed, go to next step.
  2. If no new DTCs are detected, repair is complete. Using scan tool, clear all DTCs from all systems. Recheck A/C system operation for original complaint. If A/C system is operating properly and no DTC has been detected, repair is complete. If a DTC has been detected, a control module may need to be replaced. See «CONTROL MODULES»(ref-97912-S29574280822001051400000) under COMPONENT TESTS.

Fan blower motor cannot be operated from ACC control panel.

  1. Disconnect fan blower motor control module 8-pin connector located on right side of climate control unit. see scheme 2 Measure voltage between ground and fan blower motor control module 8-pin connector terminal No. 8 (Gray/Red wire on 2000 models; Red/Gray wire on 2001 models). Turn ignition on. Using fan blower motor speed control buttons on ACC control panel, increase blower motor speed in steps. If voltage is 0.0-5.0 volts in short steps from minimum to maximum blower motor speed, replace blower motor control module. If voltage is not as specified, repair open or short in wire (Gray/Red wire on 2000 models; Red/Gray wire on 2001 models) between fan blower motor control module and ACC control module 39-pin connector terminal No. 14. (Scheme 3) See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-97912-S27444300572001051400000). When repairs are completed, go to next step.
  2. Using scan tool, clear all DTCs from all systems. Recheck A/C system operation for original complaint. If A/C system is operating properly and no DTC has been detected, repair is complete. If a DTC has been detected, a control module may need to be replaced. See «CONTROL MODULES»(ref-97912-S29574280822001051400000) under COMPONENT TESTS.

Temperature in cabin may seem too cold or too hot in relation to selected temperature.

  1. Disconnect mixed-air damper stepping motor 6-pin connector. see scheme 2 Turn ignition on. Connect a Red/Green LED test light between stepping motor harness connector terminals No. 1 (Red wire) and No. 3 (Green wire). See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-97912-S27444300572001051400000). Press ACC control panel AUTO and OFF buttons to activate calibration function. If Red and Green LEDs illuminate, go to next step. If Red and/or Green LEDs do not illuminate, repair Green wire or Red wire. When repairs are completed, go to step 3.
  2. Connect a Red/Green LED test light between stepping motor harness connector terminals No. 4 (Blue wire) and No. 6 (Black wire). Press ACC control panel AUTO and OFF buttons to activate calibration function. If Red and Green LEDs illuminate, replace mixed-air damper stepping motor. If Red and/or Green LEDs do not illuminate, repair Blue wire or Black wire. When repairs are completed, go to next step.
  3. Using scan tool, clear all DTCs from all systems. Recheck A/C system operation for original complaint. If A/C system is operating properly and no DTC has been detected, repair is complete. If a DTC has been detected, a control module may need to be replaced. See «CONTROL MODULES»(ref-97912-S29574280822001051400000) under COMPONENT TESTS.

Temperature in cabin may seem too cold or too hot in relation to selected temperature.

  1. Remove mixed-air stepping motor without disconnecting 6-pin connector. see scheme 2 Simultaneously press AUTO and OFF buttons on ACC control panel to activate ACC system calibration. see scheme 1 If stepping motor operates, go to next step. Replace stepping motor if it does not operate. When repairs are complete, go to step 3.
  2. Manually operate mixed-air damper to ensure that damper is not sticking, loose or damaged. Repair mixed-air damper as necessary. If damper is okay, install mixed-air damper stepping motor and calibrate ACC control module. After repairs and calibration, go to next step.
  3. Using scan tool, clear all DTCs from all systems. Recheck A/C system operation for original complaint. If A/C system is operating properly and no DTC has been detected, repair is complete. If a DTC has been detected, a control module may need to be replaced. See «CONTROL MODULES»(ref-97912-S29574280822001051400000) under COMPONENT TESTS.

Temperature in cabin may seem too cold or too hot in relation to selected temperature.

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ACC control module 39-pin connector. Turn ignition on. Connect a test light between harness side 39-pin connector terminals No. 1 (Black wire) and No. 36 (Yellow/Green wire). (Scheme 3) See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-97912-S27444300572001051400000). If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, repair short to battery voltage in Yellow/Green wire between ACC control module and solar sensor. When repairs are completed, go to step 4.
  2. Connect test light between ACC control module 39-pin connector terminals No. 1 (Black wire) and No. 38 (Blue/Red wire on 2000 models; Red/Blue wire on 2001 models). If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, repair short to battery voltage in Blue/Red wire between ACC control module and mixed-air temperature sensor. When repairs are completed, go to step 4.
  3. Connect test light between ACC control module 39-pin connector terminals No. 1 (Black wire) and No. 39 (Yellow/Brown wire on 2000 models; Brown/Yellow wire on 2001 models). If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, repair short to battery voltage in wire (Yellow/Brown on 2000 models; Brown/Yellow on 2001 models) between ACC control module and cabin temperature sensor. When repairs are completed, go to next step.
  4. Using scan tool, clear all DTCs from all systems. Recheck A/C system operation for original complaint. If A/C system is operating properly and no DTC has been detected, repair is complete. If a DTC has been detected, a control module may need to be replaced. See «CONTROL MODULES»(ref-97912-S29574280822001051400000) under COMPONENT TESTS.
