Diagnostic Starting Point - Mirrors
Begin the system diagnosis with the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle . The Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle will provide the following information
- The identification of the control modules which command the system
- The ability of the control modules to communicate through the serial data circuit
- The identification of any stored diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and their status
The use of the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle will identify the correct procedure for diagnosing the system and where the procedure is located.
Symptoms - Mirrors
| IMPORTANT | The following steps must be completed before using a symptom table. |
- Perform the «Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle»(ref-267923-S26873286382007101700000) before using a symptom table in order to verify that all of the following conditions are true: There are no DTCs set. The control modules can communicate via the serial data link.
- Review the «Outside Mirror Description and Operation»(ref-267927-S30671090352007101700000) in order to familiarize yourself with the system functions.
Visual/Physical Inspection
- Inspect for aftermarket devices which could affect the operation of the power mirrors. Refer to «Checking Aftermarket Accessories»(ref-267924-S19208784672007101700000) .
- Inspect the easily accessible or visible system components for obvious damage or conditions which could cause the symptom.
Symptom List
Refer to Power Mirrors Inoperative in order to diagnose the symptom.
Diagnostic Instructions
- Perform the «Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle»(ref-267923-S26873286382007101700000) prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
- Review «Strategy Based Diagnosis»(ref-267923-S16575275542007101700000) for an overview of the diagnostic procedure.
- «Diagnostic Procedure Instructions»(ref-267923-S13300682012007101700000) provides and overview of each diagnostic category.
Circuit/System Testing
Power Mirrors Inoperative - All
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the outside rearview mirror switch.
- Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the outside rearview mirror switch voltage supply circuit and ground. If the test lamp does not illuminate, repair the outside rearview mirror switch voltage supply circuit for an open/high resistance. If the mirrors fuse is open, test the outside rearview mirror switch voltage supply circuit for a short to ground.
- Verify that a test lamp illuminates between the outside rearview mirror switch voltage supply circuit and the outside rearview mirror switch ground circuit at the outside rearview mirror switch harness connector. If the test lamp does not illuminate, repair the outside rearview mirror switch ground circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance.
- If all circuits test normal, test or replace the outside rearview mirror switch.
Power Mirrors Inoperative - One
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the inoperative outside rearview mirror.
- Connect a test lamp between the appropriate power mirror motor controls circuit at the power mirror motor harness connector.
- Ignition ON, operate the inoperative power mirror to the directions being tested. If the test lamp does not illuminate, repair the power mirror motor control circuits for a short to ground, short to voltage, or an open/high resistance. If the circuits test normal, test or replace the outside rearview mirror switch.
- If all circuits test normal, test or replace the inoperative outside rearview mirror.
