Body Control Module (BCM) Replacement

If the BCM is replaced, the following procedures must be performed in the subsequent order

  1. BCM Reprogramming-Refer to «Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration»(ref-242975-S27591399792006082100000) in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup, and programming.
  2. Brake Pedal Position Sensor Calibration-Refer to «Brake Pedal Position Sensor Calibration»(ref-242978-S03290695782006082100000) in Lighting Systems.

Brake Apply Sensor (BAS) Replacement

If the brake apply sensor (BAS) is replaced, the following procedures must be performed

  1. BCM Reprogramming-Refer to «Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration»(ref-242975-S27591399792006082100000) in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup, and programming.
  2. Brake Pedal Position Sensor Calibration-Refer to «Brake Pedal Position Sensor Calibration»(ref-242978-S03290695782006082100000) in Lighting Systems.

Communication Interface Module Replacement

If the OnStar(R) communication interface module is replaced, the setup procedure needs to be performed. Please refer to OnStar Reconfiguration in Cellular Communication.

DRR Replacement

If the DRR is replaced, the new DRR must have the setup procedure performed. Refer to Digital Radio Receiver Setup in Entertainment.

EBCM Replacement

If the electronic brake control module (EBCM) is replaced it must be programmed. Refer to Service Programming System (SPS) .

ECM Replacement

If the engine control module (ECM) is replaced, the following procedures must be performed

  1. ECM Reprogramming-Refer to «Service Programming System (SPS)»(ref-243033-S39171416042006082100000) .
  2. The CKP System Variation Learn-Refer to «CKP System Variation Learn Procedure»(ref-243018-S19573115192006082100000) .

Setup for Component Replacement

The replacement of some components will require a setup procedure for complete repair.

If any of the following components are replaced, the CKP Variation Learn Procedure must be performed. Refer to CKP System Variation Learn Procedure .

  1. Engine replacement
  2. Any engine repair that disturbs the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor or its relationship with the crankshaft reluctor wheel
  3. CKP sensor

If the engine control module (ECM) is replaced, the following procedures must be performed

  1. ECM Reprogramming-Refer to «Service Programming System (SPS)»(ref-243033-S39171416042006082100000) .
  2. The CKP System Variation Learn-Refer to «CKP SYSTEM VARIATION LEARN PROCEDURE»(ref-242989-S41004015362006082100000) for 3.5L or «CKP SYSTEM VARIATION LEARN PROCEDURE»(ref-242992-S42531410042006082100000) for 3.9L.
  3. Engine Oil Life Remaining-When available, use a scan tool to reset the Engine Oil Life Remaining back to the original percentage recorded before the module was replaced.
  4. Transmission Fluid Life Remaining-When available, use the scan tool to reset the Transmission Fluid Life Remaining back to the original percentage recorded before the module was replaced.
  5. Theft Deterrent-Refer to «Programming Theft Deterrent System Components»(ref-243000-S12754242352006082100000) .
  6. Clutch pedal, if equipped with manual transmission--Refer to Clutch Pedal Position Sensor Learning

The replacement of some components will require a setup procedure for complete repair.

If any of the following components are replaced, the CKP Variation Learn Procedure must be performed. Refer to CKP SYSTEM VARIATION LEARN PROCEDURE for 3.5L or CKP SYSTEM VARIATION LEARN PROCEDURE for 3.9L.

  1. Engine replacement
  2. Any engine repair that disturbs the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor or its relationship with the crankshaft reluctor wheel
  3. CKP sensor

HVAC Control Module Replacement - Automatic HVAC

If the HVAC control module is replaced, the following procedure must be performed

Re-Calibrating actuators - Refer to Re-Calibrating Actuators in HVAC Systems-Automatic.

Actuator Replacement - Automatic HVAC

If an actuator is replaced, the following procedure must be performed

Re-Calibrating actuators - Refer to Re-Calibrating Actuators in HVAC Systems - Automatic.

HVAC Control Module Replacement - Manual HVAC

If the HVAC control module is replaced no additional procedures are necessary.

Actuator Replacement - Manual HVAC

If an actuator is replaced, a re-calibration of the actuator is not necessary. The HVAC module knows the exact location of the door when the HVAC system is turned on.

PCM Replacement

If the powertrain control module (PCM) is replaced, the following procedures must be performed

  1. PCM Reprogramming-Refer to «Service Programming System (SPS)»(ref-243033-S39171416042006082100000) .
  2. Crankshaft Position (CKP) Variation Learn-Refer to «CKP SYSTEM VARIATION LEARN PROCEDURE»(ref-242989-S41004015362006082100000) for 3.5L or «CKP SYSTEM VARIATION LEARN PROCEDURE»(ref-242992-S42531410042006082100000) for 3.9L.
  3. Theft Deterrent-Refer to «Programming Theft Deterrent System Components»(ref-243000-S12754242352006082100000) . The PCM will learn the incoming fuel continue password immediately upon receipt of a password message. Once a password message is received, and a password is learned, a learn procedure must be performed to change this password again. A PCM which has been previously installed in another vehicle will have learned the other vehicle's fuel continue password, and will require a learn procedure after programming to learn the current vehicle's password.
  4. Engine Oil Life Remaining-When available, use a scan tool to reset the Engine Oil Life Remaining back to the original percentage recorded before the module was replaced.
  5. Transmission Fluid Life Remaining-When available, use the scan tool to reset the Transmission Fluid Life Remaining back to the original percentage recorded before the module was replaced.

The replacement of some components will require a setup procedure for complete repair.

If any of the following components are replaced, a CKP Variation Learn Procedure must be performed. Refer to CKP SYSTEM VARIATION LEARN PROCEDURE for 3.5L or CKP SYSTEM VARIATION LEARN PROCEDURE for the 3.9L engine.

  1. Engine replacement
  2. Any engine repair that disturbs the CKP sensor or its relationship with the crankshaft reluctor wheel
  3. CKP sensor

Radio Replacement

If the radio is replaced, the new radio must have the setup procedure performed. Refer to Radio Setup in Entertainment.

Sunroof Motor/Actuator Replacement

If the sunroof motor/actuator is replaced, the initialization procedure must be performed in the following order

  1. Place the ignition switch to the ON position.
  2. Press and hold the sunroof switch to the OPEN position until the glass panel stalls at the rear hard stop in the fully open position, and then moves back to the soft stop position.
  3. Release the sunroof switch.
  4. Within 6 seconds, press and hold the switch button again to the OPEN position. After 3 more seconds, the sunroof window will move toward the CLOSE position. Continue holding the switch until the sunroof window stops at the closed position.
  5. Release the sunroof switch.
  6. Verify sunroof operation. Refer to «Sunroof Description and Operation (W/RPO CF5)»(ref-243032-S25926619202006082100000) in Roof.

The initialization procedure is not complete if one of the following actions occurs before the procedure is complete

  1. The sunroof switch is not held in the OPEN position.
  2. The ignition switch is turned to the OFF position.
  3. Battery positive voltage is removed.
  4. The glass panel did not reach the fully closed position.

If the sunroof motor/actuator is replaced, the initialization procedure must be performed in the following order

  1. Place the ignition switch to the ON position.
  2. Press and hold the sunshade switch to the CLOSE position.
  3. With the sunshade switch held to the CLOSE position, turn the rotary sunroof switch to the full OPEN position, and then to the full CLOSE position. Wait until both the sunshade and glass close and remain closed for approximately 2 seconds. Both the sunshade and the glass will stall at the full closed position.
  4. Release the sunshade switch.
  5. Within 6 seconds, press the sunshade switch to the CLOSE position 2 more times and then hold it in the CLOSE position. The glass and the sunshade will travel to the full open position and then stall for approximately 1 second before returning to the full closed position. Continue to hold the sunshade switch to the CLOSE position for approximately 2 seconds to complete the procedure.
  6. Verify sunroof operation. Refer to «Sunroof Description and Operation (W/RPO C3Y)»(ref-243032-S14494079942006082100000) in Roof.

The initialization procedure is not complete if one of the following actions occurs before the procedure is complete

  1. The sunroof rotary switch does not remain in the CLOSE position.
  2. The sunshade switch is not held continuously in the CLOSE position at the appropriate times.
  3. The glass and/or sunshade has not reached the full CLOSE position after opening.
  4. The ignition switch is turned to the OFF position.
  5. Battery positive voltage is removed.

Theft Deterrent Control Module Replacement Using Existing Keys

If the theft deterrent control module is replaced using the existing vehicle keys, the following procedures must be performed

IMPORTANTThe theft deterrent module (TDM) contains specific values needed by the existing vehicle keys. This information must be extracted prior to TDM replacement. Information contained within the original TDM must be unlocked through the 10-minute Relearn Procedure in order to extract this information.
  1. Set Up a New Theft Deterrent Module (TDM) Using Existing Keys-Refer to «Programming Theft Deterrent System Components»(ref-243000-S12754242352006082100000) in Theft Deterrent. This step will retrieve key information from the original TDM and write this information to the replacement TDM.
  2. 10-minute Relearn Procedure-Refer to «Programming Theft Deterrent System Components»(ref-243000-S12754242352006082100000) in Theft Deterrent. Use the VTD Learn for L61 or VTD Learn for LX9 calibration with this step. This step will allow the powertrain control module (PCM) to learn the replacement TDMs incoming fuel continue password.

Theft Deterrent Control Module Replacement Using New Keys

If the theft deterrent control module is replaced and new vehicle keys are being made, the following procedure must be performed

  1. Set Up a New Theft Deterrent Module (TDM) Using New Keys-Refer to «Programming Theft Deterrent System Components»(ref-243000-S12754242352006082100000) in Theft Deterrent. This step will set-up the replacement TDM.
  2. 10-minute Relearn Procedure-Refer to «Programming Theft Deterrent System Components»(ref-243000-S12754242352006082100000) in Theft Deterrent. Use the VTD Learn for L61 or VTD Learn for LX9 calibration with this step. This step will allow the powertrain control module (PCM) to learn the replacement TDMs incoming fuel continue password.
