Description
(1) knock sensor
"a" 2-way black connector
The knock sensor is a sensor of the piezo-electric type
Role
The knock sensor monitors the combustion of the fuel/air mixture
The vibrations of the engine-gearbox assembly are picked up by the sensor and converted into an electrical signal
Function
(1) knock sensor
(2) cylinder block
"a" 2-way black connector
"b" piezo-electric element
"c" inertia mass
"d" spring cup
"e" electrodes
Knock is a vibratory phenomenon due to an exploding combustion of the air/fuel mixture in one of the 4 cylinders
The engine knock information, transmitted by the sensor, enables the ECU to correct the ignition advance (reduction)
During combustion, the mechanical oscillations due to the vibrations of the engine are reflected back by an inertia mass onto the piezo-electric elements
Connector
