SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM

Note. When diagnosing vehicle, read faults before starting diagnostic work. During some testing procedures, components are disconnected with engine running causing simulated faults. Ensure faults are recorded before starting diagnostic work to ensure only actual faults are diagnosed.

Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC HFM-SFI)

  1. Turn ignition off. Perform pretest conditions. See «PRETEST CONDITIONS»(ref-14861-S14099108432000122900000) under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Turn ignition on. Press push-button, located on diagnostic connector in right rear corner of engine compartment, for 2-4 seconds. (Scheme 1)
  2. HFM-SFI control unit will begin output of fault codes by flashing LED light on diagnostic connector. (Scheme 1) If LED only flashes once, this indicates no fault codes are stored. If fault codes are stored, LED will flash indicating stored fault code.
  3. Press push-button again for 2-4 seconds. If more fault codes are stored, LED on diagnostic connector will display next code. Continue pressing push-button for 2-4 seconds at a time until LED lights steadily indicating end of fault code display. Record all fault codes. See HFM-SFI FAULT CODE IDENTIFICATION (E320) table below to identify fault code.

HFM-SFI FAULT CODE IDENTIFICATION (E320)

  1. Turn ignition off. Perform pretest conditions. See PRETEST CONDITIONS. See «SERVICE PRECAUTIONS»(ref-14861-S03957142932000122900000). If diagnosing vehicle using a generic scan tool, connect generic scan tool to data link connector (X11/22) located under driver's side dash board. (Scheme 2)
  2. If diagnosing vehicle using Hand-Held Tester (HHT) (965 589 00 01 00), connect Multiplexer Cable (965 589 00 40 00) to HHT. Ensure ignition is off. Connect multiplexer cable to data link connector (X11/4), located in right rear corner of engine compartment. (Scheme 3) Turn ignition on. Record all fault codes. See appropriate table under HFM-SFI FAULT CODE IDENTIFICATION (S320) to identify fault code.
