Using Hand Held Tester

Connect Hand Held Tester to Data Link Connector (X11/4) according to connection diagram. (Scheme 82)and/or see scheme 11. The following functions can be performed according to the instructions on the hand held tester display

  1. Retrieving/Erasing DTC Memory
  2. Reading Actual Values
  3. Performing Activations
  4. Programming Control Modules

SYSTEM TESTS

CAUTIONTo avoid damaging control modules all electrical testing should be done with a DVOM. DO NOT use an analog meter or test light to check control module circuits.

After verifying problem using DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE MEMORY (SECTION 11) under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM, perform appropriate test step(s). For aid in using diagnostic charts, see USING DIAGNOSTIC CHARTS .
